In the Fall of 2015 we hired Terra Firma to do a large number of home improvements. He had done…read morework at my old house and I liked the work and the overall cost. Plus he gives a 20% discount for return customers. We hired him to: replace the roof, replace all windows, re-do the master bathroom, finish the basement with a new bathroom, bedroom and media room, and build a new paver patio with fire pit. All of this work took about two months and, overall, we were happy with the cost, quality and our interactions with him. He was accommodating to our overall vision and also offered us many suggestions to improve the end product as well. If we didn't like something he would make it right. He even came back twice after the job was done to do a touch up with the paint and to re-do the bannister that was loose on the wall. He also went over and above what the contract stated on different occasions. One example- He set up the electronics for the TV and the surround sound in the basement at no charge. That was a huge help to us. If I had to offer any improvement suggestions, his billing statements could be stated more clearly. For the amount of money we were paying for these projects and how little wiggle room we had over the budget, I monitored the budget vs the spend very closely and it was very hard for me to figure out the spend vs the work completed using the invoice tracking system he used. But he sat with me at regular intervals and at the completion of the project to go through all of the financials. I would definitely recommend him to others (and have) and will most likely use him again for future projects.

This review is long overdue, so here goes: After considerable research and nervous hesitation, we…read moredecided to entrust the restoration of an old family heirloom painting to Caroline. If you've been on her site, you've probably seen it. It is a painting of some Irish sheep on a hillside, reminiscent of a contemporary Alfred Morris piece. It had hung over my in-laws' coal-burning fireplace for more than 40 years. It was covered in soot, and the varnish had discolored and deteriorated terribly. The frame was in such bad condition it didn't make the trip from Ireland. Caroline made it a true Labor of Love, and the results are astonishing. The image is far brighter now, and she not only cleaned it up, she removed the bad varnish and replaced it with a new, clear, much more durable one. We found a frame selection that we felt was perfect for the image, but were thrown a mean curve ball--it was discontinued, and the manufacturer was out of business. Undaunted, Caroline literally scouted the country for it, and struck pay dirt with a small distributor in the Seattle area. They had just enough stock to complete the project, and we are ecstatic at the result. A full step-by-step video of the process of her cleaning and restoration of the piece is on the Uptown website, and is a wonderful showcase of her care and ability. I can recommend her without reservation, and going forward, I would not trust anyone else to even touch my art. Amazing quality of work. I have a new construction log cabin that the logs needed checks (cracks in…read morethe logs) and gaps around windows and doors filled, log walls washed, treated to prevent bugs, primed and sealed with a tinted seal. He built a lower wall to enclose the back patio. Eventually it will be screened in. He reset my exterior doors that previously I had to jiggle to close. Other subcontractors who worked for me commented on the quality. He left my job site cleaner than he found it and was always polite and kept me up to date on progress. I'm hoping to hire him again soon to set interior doors and do trim work.
