From there, I spied 66 Trains in a small building sharing the parking lot with Carl's. Score! While my wife went to Carl's, I went in to the train store. Inside I met the proprietor Ben who is super friendly, knowledgeable, and generous. It's a small store, but it's got enough to get a person started or progressing along in the hobby. If you're thinking of taking your hobby to the next level (like converting from DC to DCC), Ben appears to be willing and able to discuss the merits of such a decision, the nuts and bolts of doing so, and I'm sure would be able to special order whatever you might need to grow your involvement in the hobby. I took Ben's recommendation on a pack of HO-scale couplers, picked out a used HO-scale coal tender from among a box of used rolling stock (all priced very fairly), one of each of some impulsive-buy honey sticks on the counter and a Tootsie pop for my sweet tooth. Ben only charged me for the couplers and tender and gifted me the sweets even though they were marked with a price per stick. This unplanned stop made my day! Good to meet you, Ben! Good luck on the success of your train shop! Catch you next time I pass through Kingman!

There's exhibits about Native Americans, gems, mining, desert animals, etc. Pretty much anything in history that happened in that area. Definitely a worthwhile visit, especially because your ticket gets you into other places as well. The ladies at the front desk were super nice and explained that I could keep the receipt and even use it another day, or give it to someone else to use. Later my husband arrived, and they just let him in for free! We made sure to buy something at the gift shop to support them. They had little bags for $6.50 that you could fill with gems of your choice.

There are different types and colors of clay and the attendant helped us choose the right one for our project. She was very knowledgeable .The person that was there to help us that day was, Mitzi. Even though she was busy working on a totem, she was a huge help in making sure our clay was prepared right so we'd have a good product. She continued to answer any questions we had and was very cheery. Our clay pieces were dried on a rack and put into the kiln by them, when the pieces were ready and are now waiting for my friend and I to come back in to glaze them and get them ready for firing one last time. We will pay another $30 a piece to come back and glaze (it's cheaper to buy a package) but it's a one-time project for me and the experience was so enjoyable, it was worth the money. Also, it's a beautiful facility and a happy place to visit.
