My daughter received two gifts from Crate & Barrel from a friend, that she did not want. I went into the store, said I had a return, my daughter received these items and did not want them, handed over the two items and two GIFT RECEIPTS - and the salesperson proceeds to credit the person who bought the gift! Omg! are you kidding me?! Now the gifter knows of the return! Yes, they fixed it so my daughter got her refund of a Crate & Barrel giftcard, but they can't fix the gifters credit card to not show the screw up! How embarrassing. Not happy. I was looking for a few holiday gifts, so decided to stop in Crate and Barrel. When I walked in there was someone greeting all shoppers. The store was relatively crowded, but they had so much help. The store workers consistetly asked if I needed help, but not in an overbearing way. I did decide on an item., but needed two of the item.. The store only had one, but they did offer to call other stores to check their inventory. They did and I did end up ordering from another store. The reason for the 4 stars, it would have been nice if they could have shipped it to me at no charge, instead of having to pick it up myself. I went to the store and got some items I was looking for. At the end I decided to look through the wool rugs and I spotted one on sale. There were people next to me deciding on different rug. I was standing patiently waiting for help but no one was coming so I asked at the counter and was told that someone will be right with me. I returned to the rug I wanted to purchase and waited again for help but the couple next to me who were being assisted decided they going to get that one for themselves. It was the only one! I left furious and disappointed. I am beginning to be really convinced in online shopping. What is the point of having so many associates in the store ? My 74 year old Mother bought a high end Delonghi coffee maker. The store had it drop shipped to her, without telling her she could return it to the store. The Delonghi instructions said "do not return to store". Because of C/B sale's neglect to say we could return shipped items to the store, I paid $125 to ship to Delonghi. Delonghi customer service was deplorable. It took me 10 hours worth of phone calls and 5 months to finally get my check. I spoke with both Bridget and Jen, the C/B management team, who sounded caring about my concerns at first. However, they blew me off, never called me back and never put me in touch with the Delonghi rep or put pressure on them to speed up our return. The management team especially was superficially and fake caring while doing nothing to address our concerns, nor offer any kind of coupon compensation for all the trouble. Really, fake, saccharine, management service. I even went in to the store, after no promised calls back, and Jen, the manager, was conveniently on a "phone call". Management says they "feel your pain" but did nothing other than say a few words polite and never followed up as they said they would. Awful management service. read more

Saw on my registry one of the only items I really wanted was no longer available. The black silicone utensils w/ acacia handles. Apparently they are discontinuing the set. So I called numerous Crate & Barrels to possibly find this set in store. No stores had the set. But they did sell them individually. 1 store had 3 items from the set, the warehouse had 1 & this last store is where I spoke to Bridgette who helped me find the last 2 to complete the set!! I was elated! She was super helpful & really into getting me these last 2 pieces I needed. She even waived the shipping to get them to me. It may not seem like a big deal but it meant a lot to me. I ordered this bookcase on 6/14 with the "custom made, 12-16 weeks" delivery time. The delivery window kept updating - from early October, to early November, to mid-November, and so on. When I was finally able to schedule the delivery the weekend after Thanksgiving I was so excited! Unfortunately, when the delivery driver arrived, he only had the two pieces pictured. He said that he didn't know where the rest was or when it would be ready. I spent an hour on the phone with Crate and Barrel tracking it down. They said they don't know why I was able to schedule my delivery, since the rest of my bookcase is on back order until early December. They gave me a refund on the delivery for the trouble, and I stored the two pieces of wood pictured on my guest bed. I got another email today that my delivery is ready to schedule - yay! - but when I tried to schedule it, the customer success rep told me they won't schedule it until I pay $140 more and claimed I knew this would come in two pieces. I said that I would not have scheduled a partial delivery and that my order notes said that I wouldn't receive a delivery until the whole piece was ready - she argued with me and told me that there was nothing else she could do. read more

So you're going to Ravinia... I'd love to be able to shop here more than once in a lifetime, unfortunately, that's not the world (or bank account) I live in, but every so often, I can convince my SO (that means two years of begging, whining, and the highest pitch level of nagging) to let me purchase one of those fold-up table table things that everyone and their mother has at Ravinia so we didn't look like amateurs at the recent David Byrne & St. Vincent show. My SO, who's notoriously frugal/practically Freegan/major minimalist, tried with all his might to talk me out of the damn folding Ravinia table (which is currently on specials from the regular $59.99 to $49.99 while we perused this location's many beautiful but waaaay out of my price range items, but this was one splurge there was no way I was backing down on. I took me two years of hints to get the point where I could buy it for myself and think that maybe I was at a point where somewhere in my lifetime he would get over my buying it, and I wasn't backing down. I think at one point he was even trying to renege on what he'd promised a year earlier (letting me purchase the stupid mini folding table without having to head about how I waste money for the rest of my left), until I set my eyes on this beautiful bedroom headboard (since we just use the shitty standard, adjustable bed frame for our place and nothing else). He then said, 'How about this: I'll but this bed frame for you, if you promise to never throw your clothes and stuff on the ground again.' I said, 'Deal!' right away, but his wager was a bluff, knowing the probability of picking up after myself was on the low end, and we did not leave with the dream multi-thousand dollar bed. This location actually has a pretty big clearance section, and they actually had the perfect sized couch for our apartment on clearance (though still in the $900 range) that I would've gladly amputated my right arm (the dextrous one) to have in place of the sh*tty, two-decade-plus old couch that my SO got for free off Craigslist a decade ago. It's a behemoth, weighs no less than 5 million pounds, saggy, stretched-out black leather couch that I'm sure a million hobos have had intercourse on that now looks like a stretch-marked-out Jaba the Hut slip cover laying on crummy over-sized futon against our rear apartment wall -- which I know has nothing to do with this Crate & Barrel, it's just my last ditch effort/ cry for help against the POS bum motel couch that currently resides in my dwelling against my wishing-and-all prior-to-moving-in-agreements. So anyway, this location. It's really nice because it's not located inside the mall (Woodfield) so it's plenty less hectic and it shares a parking lot with a Whole Foods and is actually one of the more civilized areas to shop/park in the Schaumburg area. The younger employees here are mega nice. They get that you probably can't afford the sh*t inside the store, and they're help you find a deal when needed. The older employees will write your ass off as soon as walk in, and for the better. The phony sales friend tactic is far less appealing to me than just being ignored altogether. I'll totally come back when I'm alone and shop the tidy clearance section here for semi-steals. Likely when my SO is out of town and in no position to put up any argument against whatever still-ridiculous-priced item I want sink my money into. By the way, the SO eventually thanked me for buying the table (a first) and noted how nice it was to have and how useful it actually was in action. We come here often, but I'm writing this review based on our wedding registry here. Everyone who works here is super friendly and laid back and always willing to help or answer any questions, I love that about this location! Anyways, we came in on a Saturday late morning to register and we were taken by a very nice staff member over to the registry to sign up. While we were signing up they gave us a complimentary wedding gift of two wine glasses. The woman helping us answered all of our questions, gave us helpful tips, and got us on our way with a scanner which we used to add items to our wedding registry. It was a great experience. We also stopped Saturday AM but the store was closed and hours posted on the internet were wrong! Two other customers were shut out along with us. The sale was over when we returned today. I love Crate & Barrel! I especially love this location. Parking is plentiful. Their employees are the best! So helpful and friendly. I love coming here because it's like having my own personal shopper. I rarely know what I want. So I just tell an employee who I'm shopping for, they ask a few key questions and before I know it, we've picked out the perfect gift. Speaking of gifts, I only come here to buy gifts. We were lucky enough to receive many quality items from Crate & Barrel for our wedding shower four and a half years ago. Everything has held up well (except those couple of drinking glasses that we broke). I would really like to invest in some more pieces for our kitchen. I came to this location to view a dining table that was on display and return a few wedding registry items. My husband and I were greeted by Julie who was incredibly helpful. After Julia issued our return, we looked at a few dining tables and settled on the Basque. Another employee, Becca offered her assistance in helping us look for dining room chairs. We didn't end up getting any chairs but Julie and Becca were so helpful that I wanted to write a review noting their great customer service! I registered my wedding with Crate and Barrel and received a lot of great things from our guests. I got this cupcake stand in steel that I LOVE. Well 8 months later, I needed to get another cupcake stand and bought the only one they had available - cupcake stand in white. Well once I got home and realized that I had one in white and one in steel, I went back to Crate and Barrel and tried to see if I could find the cupcake stand in steel since I already used the product. Well, the steel was discontinued and instead of telling me that there was nothing that they could do, they went out of their way to figure out a way that I can return the steel and get two white stands instead. In the end, after 15 minutes and 3 employees helping me, I walked out with 2 white cupcake stands with not a problem. The employees were so great and definitely did all they could in their power to make sure I walked away happy and I appreciated their effort. The place is very nice and clean, but only had half of the equipment I was looking for and the employee cashing me out was rude.

I used to really like Crate and Barrel, but I went to this location for the first time last week and had a pretty crappy experience. When I got there, no one greeted me and no one offered to help. I walked around for 30 minutes looking for the two things I needed (one gift, one for me) and then stood in line at the checkout for a long time because they were helping someone with a huge order. I wasn't thrilled with the layout of this store or the selection either and the customer service was non-existent this day. I've never had this experience in the other Crate & Barrel's that I've gone to, so maybe it's just this one? Either way, I'm not going to go back to this location, even if the location is convenient. read more

We were lucky to attend one and we got to register with Mary M. Mary M has this wonderful personality, she is bright and bubbly and last she knows her stuff. She had me registering for things that I never thought of, but it turned out I was so glad that I got them, because I needed them. We have been shopping here a lot lately and bought a few big new home items. We were told that a few items were back ordered for a few months, and we were ok with that. However after the time came and went for these items that were supposed to be shipped, we received no notification emails. Tired calling the 1800 number and told because we placed the order at the store only the store could help assist us. Tried the store a few times and not able to reach anyone, once I finally did they had no date just said would be the beginning of April. No word by Mid April, called again and they said should be a few more weeks and it should ship to them. Don't mind the delay just would appreciate better communication and not being able to get info from directly from CB seems a odd. read more

Great furniture, but misrepresented pricing. Was looking at the Tate bed and shown fabric samples and told "these are all the same price, even the custom fabrics, the only difference is that they take longer than the stock fabrics". No problem on the timing, but when I went to place the order there was an $800 upcharge on the fabric!? I called and spoke to another associate who informed me (again) that all custom fabrics are included, just take longer. They started to process my order and ran into the upcharge. After multiple times on hold I was informed this was a different fabric line and not for that bed (despite being shown otherwise in store) and the upcharge would be applied. Even the general manager would do nothing to accommodate the misleading information that was provided. read more

We got the whole store to ourselves to peruse and add items to our currently nonexistent registry. The store associates were helpful, and we got a free gift from them for choosing to go with Crate and Barrel. Very disappointed when we spent $375 dollars here a few weeks ago and we weren't offered any coupon or anything. I had just opened up the Crate and Barrel card online and received no coupon when I got the card. The worker asked if we had just bought a house and I said, we just got married and need some new stuff and she said oh, I will give you ten percent off. I have been to this C&B several times over the years. This store is almost next door to Whole Foods. Parking is free and the lot is a generous size. I remember when this C&B first opened and how crowded the store was. People were excited, and people were buying left and right. People were spending money. The employees were on their best behavior and trying hard to please customers. Not any more. The economy has tanked, many have lost their jobs, their unemployment checks have run out, the job market is awful, some have lost their homes to foreclosures, so people are not spending as much as they used to, especially today. I actually prefer the C&B on Michigan Avenue. The selections at the Loop store are fantastic. I find the items at this C&B rather boring and unexciting. I am thankful I live in the City, and can visit the C&B Loop store any time. The items inside this store do not excite me, and it certainly doesn't get me in the mood to shop, shop, spend, spend, spend. Also, the customer service here is not great. The only thing I purchased at this store was a pair of beautiful wine glasses that were "on sale" and a set of pillows for our leather sofa. We use the wine glasses a lot and the pillows have held up nicely (they should for what I paid for them). This store, I believe, is geared toward individuals who live in the suburbs. The items were reflective of the way some of my suburbanite friends decorate. I cannot explain it except to say it is not very interesting or exciting. I didn't see many interesting, exciting, unique and artsy pieces here as I have seen at the Crate & Barrel located in the heart of the City as well as the Loop store. If I had to sum it up in two words: (1) boring and (2) unexciting. Maybe it is time for them to hire a new Buyer for this store. I am a C&B fan, and have been for over 20 years, but I am not a fan of this store. read more

This past Thursday at 4:30 I went in looking for a specific product I saw in the flyer sent to my house. 2 older employees were standing chatting away at the counter near the cookware. I walked around them twice and not one stopped to ask me if I needed help. There was almost no one else around. Finally I had to ask them. The woman seemed to be upset that I interrupted her. After a trip around the store, she found the display model, then went back and looked it up in the computer. Apparently her microphone wasn't working to ask if they had one in stock. She said there were 3 in stock but no one could find them and I could have the display model. Well after walking back to it at the front, there were some marks on it and I decided not to take it.
