Recently they have installed large computing areas, only accessible if you have a membership card. This includes internet access for a maximum of two hours, but this is a free service provided by the council so you cannot grumble! There is a wide selection of educational, fiction, non fiction books available and if the book you want is unavailable, the staff are happy to reserve it or even order it in from other libraries in the borough. They also have a media library, where they stock new dvd releases. There is a 1-day service on newly released dvds and a 7-day service on ordinary/older releases. You have to pay for this service and must have a library membership card, but the prices are much lower than those of other rental shops and if you get a premiere dvd on a Saturday you can keep it over the weekend so you get an extra couple of days to watch it ;) Great library, best one in the area. Often quite busy during exam season as there are a lot of students from South Tyneside College that use it, but in general there are ample facilities available for everyone.

Im mostly listening to books nowadays on mobile app borrowbox - good service although number of books lower than paper versions. Lots of fiction books. Newspapers and mags - plenty of them last time i looked. And some computers - regular job clubs to support looking. Whats not to like. And right in the middle of Whitley Bay, helping the high street remain "sticky". Result!

At this library also you can relax with daily newspaper go the cafe or take part in a range of activities for all ages at the community centre. At library expres had go the following: 1. selection of current fiction and non-fiction best sellers for adults and children,including audio and large print books. 2. You can order books, CDs, and DVDs from any newcastle library and pick them up at fawdon. 3. Free computer and internet access. 4. Serve yourself at our new self service terminals. 5. Information on local activities and events. 6. Regular activities for under 5s and holiday activities for older children.

You can use the internet for free but you do have to sign up for a library card first. It can be hard to get an appointment when the kids are off school, so book in advance you can ring and book at anytime. They close early on weds which can be quite awkward. If you live near you can walk, there is street you can park on behind the library if you dont live that local.

There are two entrances one on Black road and one on ryhope road, so it is easy to get to. There are about 6 or 7 computers for you to use, you just have to check with the staff that they are free to use and not booked. It isn't the biggest library in Sunderland but it has a good range of books and a lovely childrens area that is brightly coloured and comfortable. If you find that the book you want isn't there, the staff are always willing to try to find it and order it in for you.
