The mission of The Craig Public Library is to provide patrons and the public access to books, diverse printed and digital materials, technology, and programmatic resources for education, information, and recreation purposes in order to promote literacy and life-long learning in our community.

History

Established in 1935.

The Craig Public Library began with a book donation from the Tokeen Quarry on Marble Island. Initially housed in a small storeroom of the school, the library moved to a 12'x15' storage shed that remained the library's home until 1978 when the City of Craig completed the current building. In the years since 1978, the library has had only 4 paid directors and 3 part-time staff. The library houses over 15,000 print volumes, as well as numerous DVDs, magazines, and audiobooks. Part of the AlaskaOWL Video Conferencing Network, the library offers a variety of video conference programs for the community as well as free Wi-Fi and public access computers with printing capability. The library also has iPads, AWE (Early Literacy Program) tablets, and laptops for check out to patrons. Patrons also enjoy access to over 100,000 ebooks and audiobooks through the Alaska Library Network's ListenAlaska service.
