The food is traditional German, hearty and satisfying. You can go for a full platter or build your own with à la carte plate with sides and mains. As my pic shows, I went with the homestyle meatloaf, bacon potato salad, and sauerkraut, and honestly? No notes. The potato salad in particular was amazing--savory, slightly tangy, with real texture and smoky bacon goodness. Gröninger feels like a dungeon-meets-microbrewery as reviewer Keith H. said, and that's not just a vibe; it's literal. You're in the actual basement where the beer is brewed, and the low lighting and stone archways give it a cool, cave-like atmosphere. Totally agree with other reviewers that it's got character for days. Service is different than you might expect if you're not used to German customs. Wave for attention rather than waiting for a server to drop by, and just walk up to the host stand to pay. The one downside on my visit was that I came alone and got seated in the front spillover section, even though there were open seats inside the main room. The host said they were reserved, but I later saw bigger groups walk in and get those spots. So: come early, come with friends, or be prepared to hang in the front area, which is still charming. You get a great view of the whole space if you need to head to the bathroom. Overall: tasty beer, solid food, very atmospheric, and worth a stop whether you're here for a drink or a full meal. I'd absolutely come back. // Beginnen wir mit dem Bier. Ausgezeichnet.

Squeeze sweet mustard over sausages and then mix with my potato salad. Oh my goodness what amazing flavors were going down the hatch. Whenever I visit places that claim to be specialists I like to be guided in my choice. This part can really make or break an experience. If not guided with professionalism and entusiasm I might as well go somewhere else. In Alles Elbe the entusiasm is contageous and the love of beer is undenieable. Even the tapas-like dishes were presented with a love for quality and taste - made us want to taste everything. And so we did. The smoked ham was more than delish, so was the 'syltz', but after all we came for the beer... The two beers I had were great. I especially enjoyed the Brewcifer 'Rhubarb wire', a saison beer with rhubarb and basil. Eminent taste and such personality. So tell the host or hostess what kind you like and be bold when guided - you might strike gold! Remember that tap beer can be tasted before decision is made. And enjoy this wonderfully loving atmosphere for a evening. I know I did!

In addition to other guests, there was a group of 12 guys who were on a bachelor party. I'm mentioning this because they were very disruptive but that's not Jürgen's fault and he did his best with the situation. There is a brewing room that you walk through with explanations of the different stages of the beer brewing process. In the back is a tasting room and most of the tour took place there. We all sat around a table while the guide poured and explained the beers. There appears to be a slideshow and we looked at some of the slides that identified the three beers we tried but I think because the slides were in German, we didn't see the full presentation. The tour was a nice diversion and although I have been on many brewery tours, I still learned something from this one, particularly about German beer.
