I currently rent from C'R O'Neil and I have never had any issues with them. In fact my experience has been quite the opposite of the posted reviews. My application process was super simple, They were pretty understanding and worked with me on some things, They accommodated me and let me move in a few days before my lease was originally set to begin, Any time I have a maintenance issue they are actually really quick about getting the issue resolved and work order closed out. My second lease renewal is coming up and I definitely plan on staying with them until I am ready to buy. The only complaint I do have is about the new Rent Manager app they recently switched to. My personal opinion is that it sucks and Appfolio was definitely a better app. read more

Horrific. We had them rent out our house. They left a toilet running which resulted in an $800 water bill. They spent thousands of dollars on "repairs" without informing us since they charged under $200 for each repair. It took them two months to find a tenant. They did not return calls/emails. They had the wrong rent listed for a while so we had to keep calling them to change it. read more

If you're buying a house, I'm sure this company would be a fine place to purchase through--everyone who works in the office is fairly snobby, so I'm assuming they'll give you the decency and respect afforded to most of the people wealthy enough to own a house. If you're renting? Go somewhere else. First red flag should have been the fact that they purchased our home from someone and did ZERO maintenance on it before we moved in. Absolutely none. Our neighbors in the unit next to ours (lovely people) and we watched, in horror, as our house began to essentially crumble around us, while the company found every excuse to get out of doing maintenance. All the while, they found SOME way to take more and more fees each month and charged an arbitrary amount in late fees whenever possible (We'd accepted that late fees were a given, but there was no rhyme or reason to the amount they assigned). I had to move out of the house to go back to school on the other side of the state, halfway through the second part of our lease renewal. I attempted to break my lease in a way that was congruent with the contract--they found a loophole to keep me locked in and proceeded to make it three times as difficult to pay rent. They refused to remove the cat from my rental agreement, despite the cat not being in the house anymore (and sent me a nasty email about how I needed proof the cat was dead before they'd remove it). I have been less than nice in response to them at this point, but largely because their receptionist is horribly rude. Just save yourself the trouble. They won't take care of your apartment and you'll end up paying way more for it. read more

This will be the worst company you ever rent from. I was lucky that the person who actually owned my rental gave me his personal phone number for any issues because customer service is not in C.R. O'Neil's vocabulary. The only interaction I've had with them after moving in was several rudely worded emails telling me I'd be respond for this or that if I didn't immediately do this or that and trying to get my deposit back. I left my rental in immaculate condition, cleaner than even when I moved in. I turned in my keys to a young receptionist who told me it could "take up to 90 days to get your deposit back." Okay, but new tenants moved in a week later. Double dipping much? When I called four weeks after turning in my keys I was told that it had not been 30 days and they will not process my return until then. I call 35 days after turning in my keys. Their response? "The property manager isn't here, but it's probably in the mail." Monday of the following week I stop in and the rude receptionist's initial respond was, "It takes 30 days!" When I told her it had been a week more than that she went to the back room and came back with, "It was mailed on Monday of last week." I explained that I didn't receive it yet and could they issue a new one. No, that would cost them money with the bank (how about you use your plethora of 10% surcharges??). They basically said F you. I have to either wait an additional 30 days for them to issue me a new check OR wait until the post office returns it so they can issue a new one. These people don't care about their clients even when you go above and beyond to be a good tenant. Don't bother. read more

I don't know how appropriate this review is because my experiences with CR O'Neil are admittedly limited, so flag it if you feel it isn't a valid enough experience of the business. The bulk of my experiences with CR O'Neil stem from their listing fact sheets that they plaster all over their windows. I lived in Clintonville for three years, and during that time I would always, always, always stop by their offices to look at the real estate listings and apartment listings posted. It was a really good way to see what the market was doing and if/when good apartments were opening up. They have real estate for sale posted on the left storefront window and apartments listed on the right. I also contacted them regarding a few apartments. One in particular was an old blue double a half block off High just at the first alley. Sits on the Southeast corner of the alley. I don't know the cross streets, but you'd recognize it if you drove by it. I was expecting the apartment to be a pretty reasonable price due to its condition, which was far from great, but they were actually charging quite a bit considering. So long story short, I've looked at their listings tons of times and inquired about apartments they had for rent, but they were never my landlord or realtor. Seems like an informative review, but someone who actually ended up using them might be a better source. read more

They get no rating from me. I just had to give them one in order to continue. I just became a tenant and cannot wait until my year is up. They do not return phone calls, they do not return emails. They do NOTHING but sit in the office and watch paint dry. I have followed up on issues with my place for 30+ days and that includes phone calls, emails etc. Patty? Really? You don't answer or return calls? You think people are just going to go away and not follow up? That's how you do business? That's how you represent a company? I sure wish I had read these reviews before I signed a lease. However, the countdown has begun. If I can get a hold of the Owner ... Mr. O'Neil himself? He will get an earful. Pathetic. read more

I rented from this company for three years. For the most part I have no complaints, though the ones I do have are large. First, when there was a chimney cap loose causing damage to the upstairs in part of the building, they didn't do well at notifying tenants; they also seemed to really put it on the backburner. Secondly, when they were notified of a pretty large mold issue in the basement - on multiple occasions - they refused to do anything about it. Finally, when it was time to settle the bill, they charged me for maintenance requests that I had put it at least a month before moving out. Frankly if you're looking for a company to rent from, you can certainly do better. Pretty disappointed. read more

Needed a garage for some vehicles. Ran a inquiry on Craigs list and Dan O'Neil called the same day. I rented the garage and later another. Very good up on the upfront when looking to get you to sign a lease, But very old school if you have any maintenance issues that you feel are important to get fixed. The are, remember, just a property management company, and do not care like an owner does. They take their percent and try to to as little as possible. You cannot report problems to them by phone, you must fill out a form and mail or fax. They will get back to you on their time eventually. Phone voice promised events do not happen. They sounded so nice and sweet when we signed with then, but they have turned into a big bureaucratic head ache since we had a problem. I probably dodged a bullet by not becoming a tenant there - should have listened to the reviews! CR O'Neil took my application fee and then *conveniently* the apartment I had applied for was no longer available. We were out $40 and had to look for another apartment at the very last minute. So stressful and not worth the phone call I had to endure with the woman at the office. She was so nice and accommodating while taking my money, but once there was a problem she turned nasty! read more

As a property owner, working with this company has been a horrible experience and has only made the process of renting my condo incredibly stressful. The managers lack basic communication skills. I was informed that a tenant was approved for rental and would be moving in soon. Weeks start to roll around-heard nothing from the company about updates with the tenant, clarification on payments so I called only to find out that the tenant decided not to move in. NO ONE from the company contacted me with this information-no call, no email, nothing. It has now been almost 6 months-no renter yet. Aside from the poor communication skills and lack of respect for the customer, this company lacks efficiency, skills and strategy to move properties. I will never recommend this company to anyone, not even for the most basic task. Yelp requires at least one star, otherwise this company would receive zero stars. read more

Was in the process of renting a house from them. Cindy, that works the front desk, is a very rude lady. I spent the majority of my day getting the paperwork that is they're responsibility to get, then to find out we need to get insurance on top of everything else because of our dog. During the whole time of talking to the realitor showing the house, about how the yard would be good for our dog and what not, not once where we told about this extra insurance. To make things worse, back at the office when I dropped off paperwork to Cindy, she then stated that we had tried to "cover up" what dog we have. Which is not true, because in my inquaries about properties I always state the breed of dog we have. Long story short, after being called a liar by the lady at the front desk, we told them to withdraw our application. I wrote an email to them stating how their workers treat their customers,and not once did they try to make right how Cindy treated us. Needless to say we will never be renting from C.R. Gerry O'Neil was our realtor both for selling our Columbus home in 2012 and for buying it in 2007. I rate him as exceptional. When we sold our home, he brought over a package that showed that he had thoughtfully considered the price. He gave us an excellent recommendation for pricing, and we sold our home quickly at a very good price. Throughout the selling process, we received feedback after nearly every showing about what the prospective buyer thought. When Gerry had realtors tour our home, he passed on helpful suggestions that helped us improve our showings. He was always very communicative and responsive when we raised questions. When we added comments about house features for prospective buyers, he passed them on. Our experience in buying our home in 2007 was equally satisfying. Gerry showed us a number of homes, listened to our desires and needs, and helped us make fair offers. In fact, we were in the process of bidding on a home we were less excited about when Gerry let us know about a brand new entry on the market. It was such a great house that there were something like 6 offers in its first day or two on the market. With Gerry's help, we got this beautiful home that served us well for our entire time there.
