It stands beside the Middle Spring Creek and is shaded by large, old trees. In the summer months, children are often zipping down the handicapped ramp and pointing to ducks in the creek. It is definitely a family-oriented place, and the library's strong point is its children's collection and variety of activities. But anyone will enjoy relaxing in a rocker in the front room by a big, bright window. Also, be sure to check out the Book Nook, a used book store run by the Friends of the SPL. There's always a treasure to be found! I'm so happy to have grown up with this library as a main theme in my life. I went to their programs as a kid, got a job there as a teenager and stayed for seven years, through college. It will always hold a strong place in my heart.

The small gift shop has your usual fair: magnets, post cards, books, shirts, mugs, bumper stickers (11 / 30), etc. Prices were modest, $3.95 for a magnet. They have free tourism books from the hamburger of Commerce. This site is operated by volunteers.

Don't go here. When…read moreI first arrived at Shippensburg for my orientation, they made everything appear to be a lot better than it actually is. For one, Shippensburg University leads the entire country, yes the entire COUNTRY, in student arrests/criminal activity in relation to student entrollment size. This is absolutely ridiculous and should not be the case. I have been to other colleges where the drinking, drug use, and actual crime is much, much higher than it is here. The police around campus are out to get students, and they are in it for making money for their department. They are disrespectful and offer no real help to the students. All they care about is busting kids for smoking weed and drinking. The police are all rude and mean to the students. I have went to the police station to get a guest pass for my friend who was staying the night and the police officer's tone of voice sounded like he was very annoyed by our presence. He kept rolling his eyes every when we would ask a question about how to fill out the application. Students vandalize the campus and throw garbage everywhere. A few days ago I was walking behind three students and they threw oranges at the a building on campus and the oranges splattered all across the walls. Three days later, the oranges are still there. There is constant construction always going on around campus causing the sidewalks to have mud and debris on them, always. The students around campus are all extremely odd or just average people that have inflated egos, trying to act better than you constantly. Every class I have been enrolled in at Shippensburg has had 3-5 students that talk the whole time in class and harrass the professor and sometimes other students. This causes the professor to yell at the students and takes time out of class. It is also very distracting. I didn't know we were still in middle school... The parties at Shippensburg are laughable. Every party I have went to charges $5-$10 to enter, offering literally nothing in return. It would be different if the people at the parties were social or fun to be around, but they all just stand there not talking to anyone... I'll keep my five bucks thanks. The parties are always very small and are filled with very strange people that act like they are too good to talk to you. The town of Shippensburg that surrounds the university does NOT like the college students. They are all mostly very bitter people. The town is even more boring that the school is. You can not walk anywhere to eat, go to the store, or get a haircut. Everything that is worth going too must be accessed by getting on the highway. This is the part that is very annoying. The food at Shippensburg University never sits well in my stomach. Most of the food lacks seasoning and is served way to often. There is nothing open 24/7 so I often go hungry on many nights. The dining halls all have very weird hours and only one of them is open on the weekends The people that work in the dining halls are mostly nice, but in Reisner dining hall there is two guys that always work the grill. They are extremely rude. When serving orders to students, instead of placing their plate under the heat lamp, they often throw the plate. I watched them throw a plate full of food while I was waiting to get my food and it fell off the counter onto the floor. Everything around campus is very overpriced, they basically have you trapped. Would you rather buy a 16oz Gatorade from the school store for $5.60 or get in your car and drive to get one? It's a complete ripoff. The rec center is pretty nice at Shippensburg is good quality, but it is always over crowded due to the small size and there only being one rec center. When I am working out, many students often stare at me for some strange reason and it makes me very uncomfortable. I hope after you read this review it changes your mind about coming here. Most people I was friends with have left this university and they have said they're much happier elsewhere. I am planning to transfer soon as well. The staff appears committed to the success of the students the dorms are beautiful they offer one traditional dorm and four suite styles that have single,2 person and 4 person accommodations. Each dorm has a laundry room and kitchen on site. Dorms are locked at all times and can only be accessed by assigned students and staff. They have a wide variety of dining options on campus that support most dietary needs.
