It's as though they didn't realise any travelling individuals would need pickup or dropping off. Total mess of no waiting zones to drive in and get passengers here, despite the fact trains are frequently late. Very very poorly designed with reality clearly not a priority. Oodles of wasted and ineffective space. Clowns that designed this should try actually using it. Don't get me started on the new carparks Road exit... they had one job read more

The gates are not working. The gate staff are rude and treat passengers disrespectfully. The managers don t care about the woeful service they provide. DO THEY KNOW THAT THE STATION EXISTS BECAUSE OF THE PASSENGERS and not the other way around? I am using different train station during my work travel and I have never felt so bad treated like in Coventry train station. read more

Very helpful staff at the station who helped us buy correct tickets to get to London-Euston quickly. Station is also easy to navigate, but if you have luggage, good luck - I couldn't find any elevators on the platforms and do had to lug my 20 pound bag around - can only imagine how hard it would be for parents with young kids! It was also easy to catch a taxi from outside the station - but a note of caution here, they only take cash and the station doesn't have a cash withdrawal machine! read more

A chap in virgin trains livery, coventry station. He took my ticket from my hand (to help me through a barrier), and kept it. when I asked for it back , I was told I should have asked before inserting it in the machine (he took it!). I lost my receipt (and my reimbursement) and sorry, there's no comeback says 'im and the ticket office. 2/5, disappointed in Virgin trains thus three times, (a) to take the ticket without asking and with catastrophic (ok, 11 pounds) failure, (b) to not fix it on the spot, and then (c) to say it can't be fixed twice. I will have to travel with them again, but will be warier. To not provide a receipt for services is a break down of civil society. I'm sure he did not intend to take 11 pounds from me, but none-the-less, he did, and with a wan smile and less than (more than?) wan apology that he has no doubt practiced before. Simply asking a traveller with bags (obviously with bags), do you need the ticket? would cost him so little time. Adrian Mole would be aghast, and so would Gordon Ramsey. It's behavior like his that reminds me to yelp. read more

I normally travel on a different rail network but as Virgin we're offering substantially reduced cost tickets I decided to take one of their trains, which, nearest to my house, go from Coventry. This was a new experience and I quite liked the very different atmosphere of the station which, at 8.30ish, didn't seem too busy (albeit in the school holidays). There is a spacious entrance hall an plenty of ticket machines, plus a ticket desk. Through the barriers there are just 4 platforms so it's easy to navigate. The London bound trains to Euston go from platform 1, which is the first platform you see when entering the trackside area. There are plenty of seats along the platforms and there are pots of flowers to brighten up the view. Next to this platform there are some toilets and a Starbucks. I had a latte in Starbucks. The service was prompt and friendly. The atmosphere a bit noisy for early hours - loud country music, the sound heightened by the stone tiled flooring. Parking is expensive but there's plenty of free street parking in the residential area 8 minutes away! read more

I am Really hoping that when the area of Coventry that is getting a full face lift and new buildings is complete, or perhaps Soon... that this place is completely torn down and recreated. This train station is Very inefficient. End of story. If you are waiting for a guest, you must wait behind the barriers and stand (no seating) without any snacks or beverages (those are all behind the ticketed barriers) and don't even think of using the toilet as those are for ticketed guests as well. If you are a wheel chair passenger, this station cannot guarantee the lifts will be working. I've come through a couple times with loads of luggage and ended up having to beg someone to help me carry it up and down the plethora of stairs. The lounges are outdated. The toilets are just there and are never a pleasant experience. (Old fashioned, sinks broken, only one hand dryer that is usually broken and doesn't work very well). Why I am giving 3 stars in my review is because there is a new efficient Starbucks. That's all. And the fact that it is only a 5-minutes walk from the City Center. And because it's easy to get a taxi. But make sure you arrive with UK currency cash! Coventry cabs only take cash, and there's no cash points at this train station. Good luck. I really hope they fix this stations major flaws one day soon!!! read more

Coventry Train station is the pitts. I've used this station for close to 2 decades now and I think it's a real shame that it can't be improved due to being a 'listed building' - I agree some things need protecting, but this isn't one of them! If it were me, I'd tear it down and build a new station that's more efficient and warm. The station is freezing in the Winter, absolutely FREEZING! And the lifts just don't work! I've got stuck in the lifts 4 times in as many years which is why I don't use them unless I absolutely have to such as for heavy luggage. I feel sorry for all the pensions and people in wheel chairs that get stuck all the time. The one plus point is that they've improved the roads outside the station now so it's a lot more efficient at least. But again, car parking... WOW! Thinking of parking at Coventry station for the day and getting the train to Birmingham or London maybe... sounds good huh? NO, FORGET ABOUT IT! It's physically impossible to get a spot after 8am. Impossible. But on the plus side, at least there's nice places to sit down, relax and eat whilst waiting for your train, right? Oh wait... no there isn't! There's Starbucks or the Pumpkin Cafe... that's it! That's your choices guys... Honestly, I love Coventry, this is my City but I can't stand the train station... it's a monstrosity and people need to stop protecting it and let the bulldozers come in and tear it down and build us something spectacular and efficient. I went to Birmingham the other week and my jaw dropped at the sheer comparison... it's like being in a third World Country one minute (Coventry station) and a future metropolis the next (Birmingham). But let's look on the bright side, at least there's a chocolate vending machine here... read more

Sometimes you wish you could go back in time to the 1960s tell building designers to STOP right there and do something else.. However I bet it looked beautiful and futuristic to them.. I came to Coventry with my grandmother when i was a kid in the 1980s and the station is pretty much how I recalled it then. Black, metal and slate grey EVERYWHERE. The stairs are a slog and the lifts are cramped, I feel like I will be stuck in the lifts forever everytime I step into one. Bonuses. The heating worked in the waiting room on the platform and the staff are pretty friendly. read more

I went to Coventry Station to get to a university open day within the area. It's an okay station, nothing special. Very large, I'll admit. The lifts were working and were spacious, but, as expected, did not smell pleasant in the slightest. On the way out, as I had expected, there were a LOT of prospective students and commuters travelling through the station, and, so, the ticket barriers were swarmed with hundreds of people trying to get through. There are definitely /not/ enough ticket barriers for the station, ESPECIALLY considering how big it is. In regards to the day, there were delays between Rugby and Northampton (for what, I'm not quite sure) in the morning that backlogged right through to the afternoon. There were constant announcements apologising for the delays. I found the announcement system to be clear and coherent, just as you expect an announcement system to be. As I had booked a first-class ticket on my way back from Coventry into London, I gained access to the station's first-class lounge. It felt much more like a posh waiting area/clean office. It was clean enough, and snacks were provided well. There were few people who came through. Due to my delays I was in there for about two hours and ten minutes, and I found myself unentertained. While the replenishments were sufficient, the lounge itself was a rather underwhelming experience, and I had expected more from the first-class ticket I had booked. read more

we were meant to catch the 7:48 London Midlands service to Euston but due to issues on the track between Coventry and Rugby it was delayed so they cancelled our train and said we needed to wait for coaches to Rugby. No member of staff was there to give anyone information. After 40 minutes someone told all 100+ of us to make an orderly queue throughout the station (in everybody else's way) to wait for the coaches just about to arrive. Then after a few minutes the line suddenly turned around and we were told to get the 8:25 train which was also late by 15 minutes. Even though we had been delayed we still had to catch a London midlands train which takes 2 hours to Euston so we arrived late to our appointment. Some people had been waiting 2 hours at Coventry for a replacement train and had to stand for another 2 on the train. Coventry station is not equipped for delays or cancellations they need extra trains and coaches onsite specifically for events like this. read more
