    Sundance Square Hotel Room View
    Shonna R.

Stayed May 21-23 I booked this last minute adventure to Ft Worth and appreciated all the local info from hotel staff. The room was amazing with a rainy day view of Sundance Square. The bourbon bar in the lobby filled with spirits, filled my spirit. Parking in the area was sketchy so we used valet, this is the best decision. They are quick and you just text to get your car, don't text on Sundays. No one told us this and we waited a while until we realized this little detail. Located near nightlife, CVS, a host of restaurants and other spectacular options. I can't wait to stay here again.

Review during COVID (July 2020): I was staying here for work, and the hotel was clean, centrally located, and comfortable. My room had a microwave and mini fridge, which is a huge plus, especially for those of us in the airline industry that like to bring out food from home on trips! TV is also a smart TV, so allowed me to access my own Netflix and HBO Go accounts while on my layover. Overall I had a nice stay here for my 29 hour layover and would recommend to anyone looking for a clean and comfortable h in downtown Ft. Worth. Some things to note in regards to COVID19, at time of writing (July 18, 2020): -the pool is closed -the gym is closed

We checked in Sunday afternoon since attending the GMF parade. We patiently waited for an early check-in and were taken care of by Terek Campbell guest service agent. I was very impressed by his great attitude since there were some people being unpleasant to him since heaven forbid they had to be patient since several families trying to get rooms early as well. I highly commend his handling of the situation & hope upper management recognize his outstanding service in a challenging situation.

Crazy door into shower area blocking vanity.

This Marriott is about a block and a half from Sundance Square. It is in a central location in downtown Fort Worth. Be careful crossing the streets because even with a walk sign the cars will run you down. These are some of the most inconsiderate drivers in regard to pedestrians I have ever been around. The hotel room had plank flooring which is better than carpet. The bed was among the most comfortable I have ever slept in. The pillows were nice also. The room had a microwave and single coffee maker and a mini refrigerator that kept things at about 51°. The large screen TV had good reception and actually had an on screen channel guide. Small swimming pool and workout room that are adequate for a stay. If I had to say anything negative about it, it would be whoever designed the room has never slept in one like it. The door between the sinks and the toilet/shower is ridiculously hinged so that it is in your way. You cannot get into the shower area without completely blocking the mirrors and sinks. Almost all hotels have been taking out individual shampoos and conditioners and replacing them with pump units on the shower wall. What the hotels are not doing is making these tubes legible to people that do not have their eyeglasses on in the shower. It is almost impossible to see what is a shampoo, conditioner, or gel. Add to the fact that whoever makes the tubes think it's cute and fancy to put part of the coloring of the letter and background that does not contrast against the background. I certainly would stay here again. However as with most things, it seems as if the designers never experience what they design for themselves.

Okay, so I'm going to start off by saying I'm a travel advisor and I was on a business trip with my company attached to my reservation, so I feel like this affected my experience and my review is reflecting that for those who don't have VIP stars next to their names. Overall, I had a good stay. The staff was kind, the rooms were fully furnished with everything I needed, there was always an elevator on the ground floor waiting, and there's complimentary coffee in the mornings. The bar opens at 5pm and is closed on sundays, and there's a nice little cafe attached to the hotel that serves great breakfast (not included). The hotel is right in the middle of everything I needed, and there are so many restaurants and cafes with two blocks, that I didn't venture much farther than 5 blocks the whole time I was there. The check in process was flawless, very kind staff, and I got to check in to my room a few hours early. I stayed in the king bedroom, which was beautiful. I had a couch in the room, a decent closet with full length mirror, and plenty of toiletries in the bathroom. I had difficulties sleeping the first two nights though, because my room was next to the elevators and I could hear EVERYTHING. People coming in and out all night, and I'm not a light sleeper. Fast forward to night two, I woke up around 4am with what I thought was someone bouncing a basketball, and was actually a leak from the ceiling in the bathroom splatting a drop on the bathtub rhythmically. I grabbed a bunch of towels and put it in the bathtub to prevent the noise, called the front desk, and was offered ear plugs by the overnight agent. I really just wanted to have my room changed at that moment, but it was 4am and I had work in the morning, so I just took the earplugs and went back to sleep. (Maintenance wouldn't be in until 7:30 I think, so he told me to call back when I woke up for that) So alarm time comes around and I go to the bathroom and the leak has gotten much much bigger and the ceiling looks like it'll fall at any moment. I call the front desk back while trying to get ready for work, and they send two maintenance gentlemen upstairs, who then tell me that the person above me flooded their bathroom and that's why I was leaking. They left the room with a parting that sounded a lot like: we'll be back to fix it up, it'll be ready before you come back from work. Again, I was hoping to be moved, but didn't have the time or energy to ask for it. About 15 minutes after the gentlemen leave, one of them comes back with a completely different attitude (this is where I think my company affiliation being on my reservation changed things. This happened after he went to go put in the work order on my room). He came with a key card for a new room, offered to accommodate me any way that was convenient for me to relocate to the new room and oh my I'm so terribly sorry this is happening to you. He was EXTREMELY apologetic and overly polite and helpful. He behaved exactly how I would expect the hotel staff to behave when something like this happens, but for me, it came too late and felt disingenuous. He helped me move my things to my new room (which while it was still a king bed, the room was smaller and didn't have a couch anymore. Typically I expect hotels to upgrade guests when an inconvenience happens, not downgrade.) I didn't make a fuss of it because I didn't need that big of a room anyways, it was just disappointing because I wouldn't want my clients to have to make a fuss to get what should be happening as a standard. When I came back downstairs to go to work (running late because of all the fuss!), the front desk addressed me by name, apologizing over and over again, and offered me complimentary items from the market. Again, exactly what they SHOULD do when a huge maintenance issue like that inconveniences a guest, but at this point I was convinced everyone was trying too hard and if I were there for leisure my treatment would have been different. Like I said, I had a good stay myself, I just wonder about how they handle maintenance issues for guests on a regular basis.

::sigh:: where shall I begin... The location is perfect, just valet and wa-lah!! -you're in the heart of downtown funky town. The lobby is cute, modernly updated, and smells phenomenal, and the front desk staff is smiley, courteous and helpful. It's just the $$$ room that makes no sense. The king room is small, and completely outdated. Everything..from the carpet, bed/bedding, and bathroom. It just had that 'old hotel' smell. -& Please tell me, who uses bar soap anymore?? This isn't 1975. And why is it so dang tiny. Lol -& Why is the toilet seat yellow? -& Why is the tub stained and icky? -& Why do the towels feel rough and smell like a cross between NO and pancake syrup? It's unfortunate because between the $28 valet and the overpriced items in the 'market,' the Marriott could spring for some updating in their guest rooms. I mean come on, it's 2000 freaking 18 people.

Vincent helped consolidate our luggage at checkin and with wheeling us to the room. Evening reception is from 5:30 to 7 in the lower bar area. Excellent bfast on the 7th floor including made to order omelettes by the chef. Nice selection of fresh fruit and usual full bfast items. You can sit inside or outside in the terrace. I wish the weekday bfast ended a bit later 9:30am instead of 9am. At the lobby there is a coffee shop where you can also pick up salads, fruit and jello cups and juices. 3 elevators mean not much waiting to get to your room. Parking is by valet, a bit expensive at $60, but the valets are fast. Cheaper parking nearby means you have to deal with hauling luggage. It's a it hard to get to the entrance - look for the E symbol on the parking cones on the street. Water pressure was good with plenty of hot water. 2 air conditioner controls - one in the bedroom and one in the living room meant we could set the temperatures to our liking. A larger moni-fridge, microwave, coffee machine, ironing board and iron in the room was convenient.

There is a small seating area, Starbucks vendor with some snacks, and is connected to a restaurant. Checking into the room was very quick too. The fitness center is very nice with a variety of cardio machines (and a Peloton!), weight rack, and cable machine. There are also yoga mats, water, and towels available inside. The buffet breakfast was very good too. They had a ton of options and a rotating selection of foods. There is also a chef available to prepare omelettes, breakfast bowls, pancakes, bacon, and a bunch of other things! The rooms are very spacious. I do like that the bedroom is completely separated from the living area. There are TVs in both spaces and it's pretty sound proof between the two. In the living area, there is a large desk and chair, couch, padded chair, sink, mini fridge, and microwave. Our room has two queen beds which were comfortable. The comforters were a little thin but nothing intolerable. The AC units were easy to use and adjusted to temperature changes quickly. I was happy to find some extra pillows in the wardrobe. The only strange thing about the room setup that I wasn't fond of was the bathroom sink. The sink was inside of the bedroom instead of the bathroom itself. You couldn't really do anything at the sink without disturbing someone who is sleeping since the lights shine directly at the bed. I was a bit disappointed with the parking situation. It is valet only. It is a little difficult to get situated with the parking since the valet location is on a one-way street. If you're using GPS to get there, you may need to spin the block a few times to get on the right side of the hotel. I did like, however, that the valet service provided a card where we can virtually request the car to be pulled out whenever we'd like. I would definitely stay here again!

Only reason for four stars is the sheer size of the place. They had us sit in the lobby of the hotel for a few minutes while they finished setting up the tables, which was a little odd. Eventually, we were all called up by individual parties and seated. There was only one server, so things moved very slowly, although she was hustling as much as she could. The food was hit or miss, but I did appreciate that they could accommodate with vegetarian options, even if they weren't all particularly excellent. You are served one small pot of tea each and expected to make that last through the entire event. I thought this was especially stingy and was very disappointed that they did not refill your pot. The ambience was also just okay. We were all kept in close quarters, which meant that the loud party next to us was pretty disruptive. I wish that they had spaced out all out a little more to give everyone some room. Overall, I think the price is too high for the quality of the experience. As someone who has done high tea across the globe, the Ashton's ranks pretty low on my list. For the cost per person, I was expecting a little more of a luxe experience.

From the moment we arrived we had the absolute best from their amazing and friendly staff. Brian the valet greeted us before we had even brought the car to a stop (more on him in just a bit) and had a luggage cart brought over to us immediately. From there we were greeted with the biggest warmest smile from Cassius, the bellhop, within the 20 steps we took from valet to the front desk we witnessed 3 guests who were departing either shake his hand or hug him to tell him thank you for making their experience so enjoyable. By the end of our stay we would feel the exact same way. Anytime we had the pleasure of running into Cassius he always kept that contagious smile on his face, remembered what the purpose of our trip was, and answered any questions we had with excitement and thoughtfulness in his answers. Our room, a suite, was extremely clean, had a great layout and wonderful amenities. Our bed was comfortable, linens were soft, pillows felt new, and the showers water pressure was adequate. The main things we look for when staying somewhere. After unpacking we went downstairs to meet friends at the bar who were also staying in town for the weekend. Our bartender Vince and our waitress Mia were awesome. We all had such a great experience with them we spent the rest of our evenings during our stay there enjoying cocktails rather than going out as we had previously planned. Cassius had made us aware of the car service during one of our conversations but we didn't expect much as most hotels "offer" the same service but never seem to have availability when needed. Not the case at the Crescent! As we stepped out for dinner we were about to summon an uber when Brian came jogging up, Brian is never standing still and always moving at a brisk pace, he asked if we were heading out for the evening and would we be needing the hotel transportation. I told him we already had reservations so I didn't think we would have time. He was on the phone before I could finish my sentence and quickly made us aware a car would be showing up momentarily to take us. When the car arrived a young man by the name of Momen, forgive me if I spelled that incorrectly, hopped out to greet us. From there on out Momen dropped us off and picked us up from every event we had planned for the entirety of our stay. Momen was very soft spoken, well mannered, and never let anything get under his skin while hauling us all over downtown on a busy stock show weekend. The Crescent should be proud of their beautiful building, great location, wonderful rooms but should be more proud of accomplishing something that very few hotels ever do, a wonderful team of employees. Not one employee ever showed an ounce of displeasure in doing their jobs, that is something I have never witnessed in all my travels. Cassius, Brian, Momen, Vince, Mia, and the rest of your staff is what has earned my business along with I'm sure many more other guests. Unfortunately, while the property itself is beautiful, my overall experience was deeply disappointing. Check-in started on a positive note. I was greeted with a glass of champagne and the front desk staff were warm and welcoming. However, things quickly went downhill from there. I was never provided a welcome letter outlining my Fine Hotels + Resorts benefits or basic hotel information. I didn't realize this until I reached my room and wanted to use some of the amenities. When I returned to the front desk to request one, I was told none were available and was directed to scan a QR code instead. The QR code only linked to the in-room dining menu and restaurant reservation pages, which was not a substitute for the information typically provided with an FHR stay. Upon arrival at my room, the staff member assisting with my luggage repeatedly called me by the wrong last name and made multiple comments about my ethnicity, including saying my name sounded Indian but that I "didn't look Indian," followed by personal questions about my background. While I believe the intent may have been friendly, it felt inappropriate and uncomfortable. The room and property are undeniably stunning, but several functional issues made the stay frustrating. All of the lights, including those in both bathrooms, appeared to be controlled by motion sensors or timers that could not be adjusted. While getting ready, the lights repeatedly turned off, forcing me to stop styling my hair and walk around the room just to trigger the sensors. This became extremely disruptive and inconvenient. Additionally, the main desk in the living room, which was the primary power source in the suite, did not work at all. After attempting to troubleshoot myself, it appeared to be broken entirely. Because this was one of the only areas with multiple outlets, I had to charge devices in random locations throughout the room. Communication with the hotel was also extremely difficult. The in-room phone repeatedly lost connectivity and died while I was attempting to place orders. I texted the hotel to report the issue, yet staff continued trying to call the malfunctioning room phone instead of my cell phone, despite me explaining the situation multiple times. Calling the hotel directly from my mobile phone often resulted in busy signals. The most frustrating part occurred after checkout. I was incorrectly charged nearly the full nightly rate despite having prepaid through American Express. When I called to resolve this, I was placed on hold for nearly 35 minutes after being told it would be brief, and no apology was offered. Although I was told the charge would be reimbursed, the refund was incomplete because my American Express breakfast and amenity credits were not properly applied. I had to call again to request an additional correction. Across their website form and multiple phone calls, I was never initially provided a folio detailing my charges. It wasn't until the third call that I spoke with Sarah, who was exceptionally helpful. She went out of her way to email me a PDF folio and personally coordinate the remaining reimbursement. She was the only team member who truly resolved the situation, and I greatly appreciated her professionalism. This was my first visit to Texas, which I noted in my reservation, and I had hoped for recommendations or guidance from the hotel, especially given the Fine Hotels + Resorts experience, but none were offered. It's genuinely disappointing because the Crescent is a beautiful property with so much potential. However, between the service issues, operational problems, billing errors, and lack of follow-through, this was easily my worst Fine Hotels + Resorts experience to date. Considering the price point and expectations associated with this program, the experience ultimately felt frustrating and not reflective of luxury hospitality standards. I truly wish I could have loved this stay.
