The trolley carts were smaller than most, so for our family of 4 it was a trick getting our luggage on it. The room is spacious and clean. There is a microwave, coffee maker and mini fridge. There was plenty of space to set our suitcases. There is a thermostat for temperature control, I always appreciate that. Unfortunately, no bathroom fan for ventilation. After 4 showers the room gets pretty stuffy. I really liked that the towel bar was in the shower. We didn't need to reach across the bathroom for our towels and it was big enough to put our toiletries on it. However, I did need to call the front desk for an extra towel, there were only 3. They promptly delivered and brought 2 towels, that was nice. The bed are fairly comfortable with ample pillows.

For example, they took all the ice buckets out of the rooms, but you could still access the ice machines on each floor. Guests had to request gallon bags of ice if wanted/needed for the rooms. They also had pool reservations, but we ended up having an entire baseball team and their siblings in the pool one afternoon. The hotel is conveniently located and moderately priced. I would definitely stay here again.

It's how they respond to guests who've been bitten that defines them. In this instance, Hilton failed me. My photo shows some of the over 75 bites I got during my last stay. There's really no place I could have gotten them but here. I drove from Chicago, so didn't pick them up flying. When I followed up with the hotel, they assured me there were no bugs in my room, but they had it treated anyway. (Why treat a room that's not infested?) I asked for a copy of the exterminator's report and never received it. Next I contacted Hilton Corporate, and they emailed me that Hilton takes no responsibility for bed bugs in their hotels... it's up to each hotel to settle problems. So I'm out a set of luggage and a week of intense itching, a doctor's visit and meds... plus dry cleaning clothes that can't be washed in hot water. I've stayed in this hotel four times while visiting family, and it's definitely gone downhill. Too bad, because they have a great workout area, the rooms are spacious and the bed is comfortable... but my room was never cleaned during this stay, not even fresh towels. And the free breakfast featured dried out egg sandwiches, stale muffins and no fruit. So disappointed in Hilton.

Turns out someone left some presents in the pool... Big poops! Luckily, far in the deep end. We went in the hot tub for a few minutes after meticulously checking it. One reason we stayed at a hotel with a pool was to swim; so, that was a bit disappointing. Can't really blame the hotel for this. Could have happened anywhere. Local hotels, keep your eyes out for this pool pooper!

Unfortunately, I would not stay here again because of the bathroom and housekeeping issues. The water pressure in the shower was so poor that it was difficult to properly rinse off, which became frustrating over a three-day stay. In addition, despite asking housekeeping twice, an empty shower gel dispenser and empty lotion dispenser were never refilled. Towels were replaced, but a Q-tip remained on the bathroom floor for all three days, which raised concerns about how thoroughly the rooms are actually being cleaned. Overall: lovely staff and a comfortable bed, but basic room maintenance and shower functionality need improvement.

Wi-Fi signal good and consistent. Being on first floor on a Friday night, I feared potential "thump, thump, thump" from above, but the place was surprisingly quiet. The view out my window overlooked a nice, quiet expanse of lawn with, I think, a school and some other newer building nearby. But all was quiet on that fair western front. Could be nice place for kids to go out and play catch or otherwise burn up energy if needed, though there's no playground. There is an indoor pool, which I didn't use. Can't comment on breakfast because I slept in and missed it. Check-out time is 11 a.m. When I awoke at 10:30 to realize that, I called the front desk to see if I could have an extra 15 minutes to check out. Mac at the desk gave me til 11:30. (No extra hassle or charge.) Here's why I give a 3-star: 1) A used beer bottle had been left behind in between the nightstand and bed by a previous guest and housekeeping had overlooked it. Otherwise, all seemed clean. More important, 2) The exterior looked disheveled, beat-up and unkempt in places. Worst was a side area where guests park: Between the lot and the building is a lawn where some pieces of construction/maintenance trash lay. I couldn't ID what they were, but they looked like remnants of what one might see on a construction site, not things guests had left behind. Also, exterior door glass needed cleaning. Mac seems to be a good guy and the guy in charge overall: When I asked where to find a microwave he immediately came to my room to show me where it was. (It had been shoved way back on a shelf under the TV where I couldn't see it.) Other good things the place has going for it are that it's far enough from the interstate to be quiet, but a quick, easy drive to a good nearby selection of restaurants and shops without being overly congested.

Shoot, there's even a bowling alley on-site. What a gem! I stayed at the Hotel Blackhawk a Saturday in December. The rooms were super unique. Walking in all you see is a kitchenette with refrigerator and microwave. Next to a couch and chair with a tv. But alas! Around the corner was the bedroom with large bathroom. The floor plan is super unique. A co-worker from the area told me that in the early 2000s (2006?) a fire started in a meth lab on the eighth floor. It was that fire that prompted new ownership and a multi million restoration. The entire project took just over two years. And boy did they do a good job. The Hotel Blackhawk is connected via skywalks to the RiverCenter/Adler Theatre and Raddison Quad City Plaza Hotel. While, technically, the Hotel Blackhawk is a Marriott Autograph Collection hotel-- it is independently owned and operated. Without a doubt when I am in the Quad Cities next I will be staying at the Hotel Blackhawk and you know what? You should, too.
