We moved to the area a few years ago and started coming here regularly. The food is always great, but the real winner is the service. Everyone here is so friendly. 12 hours before our arrival, the county had closed down outdoor dining. There was either "Take Out or Delivery". This restaurant had even taken the measure of putting up a big white tent in hopes that the county would grant them to at least open air dinning, but not to be. My wife and I come to the Salinas area to visit my Son and Daughter-in-Law. We had eaten at this restaurant a number of times. They have the GREATEST personnel and the Best home style cooking we have had in a long time. On our way home, we like to meet my son for a good breakfast and this restaurant has NEVER disappointed us. When we went inside, there was some construction going on, there were new plastic shield on the counter and separation shield between the tables. We could smell the fresh aroma of breakfast behind the counter and the Lady behind the plastic shield was a delight with her conversation and her impeccable service. We ordered three meals and one to go (want to support our local businesses, right?). We ordered breakfast Burritos, with perfectly grilled hash browns (you ever notice that some Burritos aren't perfectly wrapped, to hold the meat and scrambled eggs inside? Well, these Burritos had a great wrap about them). We ordered the Veggie scramble for my wife and she was very happy with the salsas that were provided. My son ordered the BLT sandwich with fries and had to take some it home. He surprised his wife with a special breakfast also. The conversation was so cheerful and delightful that we decided to open up the back of the truck, set down a couple of stadium lawn chairs and enjoy the morning in the parking lot with a wonderfully bright day and open air. A few things that made this restaurant SPECIAL were the People that continued to come to work, to make great food for the customer that decided to Support their local small business, the food that was hand made, individual servings with condiments fit for a Royal. The open air seating on the back of a pickup truck and the Wonderful conversation with the Lady inside that not only brightened up OUR day but maybe hers as well. I will tell family and friends about this "As Good as it Gets" restaurant to be enjoyed by all that come by. It was a clean restaurant with ample seating. The bathrooms were very clean as well. We seated ourselves and the service we got was so-so. The male waiter we had was funny and warm but the woman who took our order was a bit cold. She went back to the kitchen several times to see if items in the menu were even available. I got the ham scramble with country potatoes and toast. The ham scramble was too greasy and made me feel ill. The country potatoes were extremely bland, no salt and a sprinkle of pepper only; they were also not crispy like they should be. It's nice to eat somewhere that the staff feels like family and the owner (Rick) is in the kitchen cooking your food. Friendly customer service is always appreciated and it is consistent at the Country Kitchen. I always order from the breakfast menu. One can not go wrong wit the omelettes and hash browns with biscuits and gravy as a bread side. The biscuits and gravy here are a meal by themselves. The coffee is consistently hot and tasty. And the pies are home made and fantastic. There is a full bar in the back and you will have a good time if you come on a reggae rock night. I drive past this dinner all the time, I decided to stop and get some breakfast this morning. I'm glad I did. Everyone one in here from the staff down to all the patrons were all so friendly and welcoming, I would come here again just for the atmosphere in the place even IF the food wasn't good. But on top of that the food is amazing and you could feel the love you used to get when you would wake up when you were a child and your mom was just putting the finishing touches on the breakfast she was preparing. Great food, great atmosphere..feels like a family. We've been traveling all weekend and this was the best (and cheapest) meal we've had all weekend. Eggs were done perfect, coffee was strong and hot, chicken fried steak was delicious and the gravy flavorful, bacon crispy and the hash browns were creamy yet crispy. Everyone had a smile on their face (even the kitchen staff) and they all worked very well together. We got off to a rough start with our little guy (whose special needs and already had a long weekend) but no one was unkind about our screaming toddler (who we calmed down shortly after settling in) and one of the super nice guys who works there talked to him about paw patrol!! I've seen this place just off the freeway for the entire 17 years I've lived in the area and never stopped by. Today I had the time and glad I did. I had the biscuits and gravy plus eggs with hash browns. The biscuits were soft as clouds with tasty gravy. Service was pretty good but I was solo so that's couldn't be too hard. Quick service and friendly server. It's a pretty basic place with good prices but I'll definitely return. read more

The food was okay, and the service was mediocre. I probably wouldn't go back. They forgot my toast and when we asked about it the waitress told us it got sent somewhere else on accident and that they'd make me more. A couple minutes after a family complains that they got the wrong toast. She picks up the toast and tosses it on my table like "whoops there we go." What a mistake of a restaurant, you would think by the amount of trucks in the parking lot, it might be a lil hot spot for diner food-WRONG!
