This is mostly true, and in general I would agree. The only difference is normally between the different companies, but even there you could experience a major difference. At the Pak'nSave in Silverdale you will notice a major shift from their normal supermarkets. This is their flagship branch if you ask me; the aisles are nice and wide, the deli area well stocked (Love the Bratwurst) and the selection is better than any other supermarket in town. Plus you still get the savings normally attributed to a P & S. There is no traffic congestion here, the store is clean and presentable, and you can score deli items at affordable prices. The fruit and vegetable section is still limited, but then again, it is a Pak'nSave, and they only cater for bargain shoppers.

This place is beautifully set out, with aisles comfortably big enough to accommodate 2 trolleys, and plenty of checkouts always open ready to help you. The butcher stocks the biggest scotch fillet steaks I've ever seen, along with rib roasts & T-bone steaks. They also make their own sausages. With a kick-ass deli, fresh fish counter & a great range of locally grown produce, you almost feel like you're shopping at a gourmet supermarket.

I first became aware of them due to their excellent beer selection, both cases and singles for sale, which is something I love to take home and share. I also bought many bars of our favorite Whittaker Chocolates; they were also on sale and about a third as much as duty free shops at the airport. If you're a tourist looking for consumables to take home, this is a great spot. Everyone working there was friendly, I appreciated the cashier handling everything with care and explaining the rewards system even though I wouldn't be using it. There are these stunning bright red chandeliers set over a large dining table just to the side of the main entrance. Then I realised this was just a rather different supermarket shopping experience. I initially popped in just because I was in the area and in a hurry - I have closer regular supermarket. But whenever I'm around Half Moon Bay or feel like a change in the drudgery of grocery shopping, I always head in here. It's not a big barn of a place, and is actually quite small as far as supermarkets go, but it's packed with everything you'd expect from even the giant-sized competitors. I can't say how nice the shopping experience is - it's quiet enough to actually think, and the sometimes the staff greet you as you walk the aisles..! And a bonus; the sign on the door says it's locally owned and operated.

(The woman at the check-out in front of me must have had more than 6 of them, with very little in them). It is shocking. I also had to seek help to find the reusable bags (mubs), which at over $6.00 a box, are too expensive. I see that Count Down in Grey Lynn has no plastic bags at all and their reusable bags are very visible. If they can do it, why can't New World? Things must improve, otherwise I'll be forced to shop elsewhere. Margot
