Forgot to check if cheeses were local but was great display & choices! Blown away with their homemade quiches & pies. If we had a new world like this in Auckland I'd be there. I've rated 4 stars because of the speciality variety of foods that aren't available like that in Auckland supermarkets.

Fabulous and such a friendly, knowledgeable staff. The store was spotless from floor to ceiling.read more

If you are a foreigner, they won't take a US driver's license to purchase alcohol, so make sure that everyone who is in your party all have their US passports on them before checking out. My husband went to purchase wine. I had my passport, he only had his driver's license. The older woman employee wouldn't sell to us unless we both had passports with us. She said my husband also couldn't come back to purchase wine with his passport, I had to be with him as well. I felt this was absurd because we're both in our mid-thirties, and she already checked my passport that said my age. Why would I need to come back with him? Another couple at self checkout was also denied the ability to purchase alcohol by the same employee for not all having passports despite the fact they were clearly older. It was a total hassle having to drive back to our hotel to get his passport and then pick up our wine at the customer service desk with both passports. Visited February 2023.

This Pak'n Save is massive -- it's quite a large grocery store. All the staff are very friendly,…read moreknowledgable and helpful. There's a ton of vegan options outside the produce section including vegan cheeses, coconut and almond yogurts, and vegan meat analogs. I found everything I was looking for - and more - and am happy to recommend this grocery as quite vegan friendly.
I am writing this review as I stand in the checkout queue. As I do for ages every time I shop here…read more Unfortunately, seeing as the only other supermarket choice in Gisborne is Pak n Save, you're stuck with this. Im sure this place was the reason the term "supermarket rage" was invented. Let's start with the carpark. Potholed & narrow, it's always worth making sure that your car insurance is up-to-date before you drive in here. The special needs trolley bloke seems to try & break the world record for most trolleys in a stack before returning them en masse. There are always hundreds of staff stocking the shelves & blocking the aisles, and about 2 on checkout. Which is bizarre because the shelf selection here is utter crap. Special limited edition items just never seem to make it this far East, and if you're looking for anything more exotic than sweet n sour sauce - you're dreaming! I have tried & tried to find a time when this place is quieter, but failed miserably. What I do know is do not even THINK of visiting on a Friday night or during the weekend. Unless you feel like killing someone. And during the summer holidays....do your shopping online, or better still, stay at the beach & eat takeaways.
