A 1 star review of Cotton Patch Cafe by Anne M.: I want to first state that I have been dining at Cotton Patch restaurants since the late 80's. Cedar Hill, which is my hometown, had one and I have fond memories of the delicious food and times spent with family there. Fast forward to today. The husband and I stopped in for lunch at 12:30. I was slightly surprised at how empty the restaurant was. Once seated a young lady walked by and said she'd return for our drink orders. By the time she made it back we were ready to order. He ordered the catfish basket, I ordered the grilled Cajun duo (tilapia and shrimp). She offered rolls to which I asked for the corn muffins. "They're out", I'm informed. Umm, okay, height of lunchtime and you're out of them? Not cool! She offered the skillet cornbread but, I declined. (Not trying to pay extra for that when muffins should've been available). We finally got our drinks and were having a good laugh when our waitress stopped by to ask if we needed anything, our food would've been great at this point seeing as we had been there about twenty mins. We waited some more and I swear I saw a table that was seated after us get their food. The waitress came by again and my husband asked if they had to kill the fish, she said they're bringing it out right now. We waited another ten minutes and left. I'm by no means a gourmet cook but I can get fish on the table in less than thirty minutes! I could've literally copied my review of the Greenville location from two years ago for this location! I am about 96% sure I'm done with giving any location any more of my time. My husband only had an hour for lunch and we ended up throwing down a fast food burger instead of what we thought would be an enjoyable meal together. So, thanks for that one Cotton Patch. read more

Absolutely horrible experience. Ordered through Doordash and the restaurant was out of mashed potatoes. Seriously, mashed potatoes. The one thing that they are known for is chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes. When I called to ask for a refund or a credit for the mashed potatoes, they directed me to Doordash. When I last checked , Doordash wasn't the ones responsible for cooking the food. Poor management at Cotton Patch is the real problem. Buyer beware when ordering from this restaurant. read more

This place is marginal. Last week four of us go for lunch. One of the ladies got served the wrong order. The waitress took it back and after 25 minutes we called for the manager. Waitress "forgot" to resubmit the correct order after being asked twice where it was. The manager brought her meal and apologized and gave us free appetizers the next time we eat there. I like Cotton Patch in general as it's one of my favorite places to eat. However this location the service and food need some work. My chicken fried steak was delicious and hot but the fries were lukewarm, rolls were cold but allegedly just came out of the oven, and some of my other family had cold food. Now they did adjust one meal off proactively which was good. We got there right when it opened at 10:45am so you would think things were hot. Still a decent place to eat but needs some work. Update: We were invited back to dine at this location. I had the steak and baked potato, which was a first for me ordering this off their menu. One of the best steaks I've ever had, and the bake potato was delicious. The service this time was "Cotton Patch Quality", meaning, it was excellent. They definitely fixed whatever little hiccup they had from our last visit. I would like to thank the manager of the restaurant for inviting us back, and for the outstanding service! read more

Totally delicious! Large portions and very reasonable prices. We stopped in after church on Sunday and my wife had the Turkey and dressing and it was real Turkey roasted fresh first thing in the morning. I had the chicken fried steak and the breading was very tasty a d not so large that it over shadowed the meal. Portions are large. Sides are plentiful and yummy. Please know that this is a scratch kitchen so freshness is the name if the game. We hadn't been back in a couple of years since service had dropped off but we tried it again and enjoyed the food and service. Deedee was our server and was great. She was very nice as she helped my wife find non-dairy options. She even caught a mistake when one item came out with butter on it, and fixed it immediately. Chris was the manager that night and was also very nice to us and Deedee. We had steak and it was acceptable for this style of restaurant. The fried pickles and jalapeño cornbread were really good. We watched wait staff at other table and felt they were also very nice and efficient. Management has turned things around from a couple of years ago. Not a good experience. It took over an hour to get our food. When it did arrive it was ice cold. Rolls were cold and hard. This restaurant was incredibly filthy tonight. At least 5 tables sat piled with dishes for the hour we were there. Tea was spilled into the laps of 2 of us. We had to clean it up and had to ask for more napkins several times before getting new ones. We had to ask about our order after about 20 minutes - pretty sure it was not put in until we asked - got food 20 minutes later. One item was not available and we weren't told until 5 minutes after we asked about our food. Very immature server disclosing his personal issues....as well as telling us "nobody ever tells me anything go figure" when reporting the item we ordered wasnt available. He was displaying inappropriate behavior with another server at our table interrupting our conversation to tell us that the other server was his best friend. He continually made excuses and comments. I have a friend that used to work here in high school. She nicknamed it the Rotten Snatch. Now I can see why. The food was decent. Got a Club sandwich and a side salad. (Light lunch, I'm watching my figure ok? Screw you.) Just your typical club sandwich, nothing too special, but got the job done. Same with the salad. But this places service sucked like no other. I think it was just my waiter, but damn, what a sucky suck. Let me setup the ambiance. I am by myself. I am one of 4 tables currently there. There are 3 waiters serving at the time. He comes over after a lil and by a lil, I mean 10 minutes, to take my drink order. I tell him I am ready to order my food, as well, because I have had ample time to glance at the menu, reglance at the menu, jump on my phone, read an article, then check the spelling of that article before he came to see me. Get my drink promptly, sipping on my DP and water. Finish the DP, sipping on my water (I get the water because waiters sometimes don't always refill your drink right away and I am like a camal that just took adderol in the desert...aka I drink a lot of fluids.) After about 10 minutes of having no DP, he finally comes over and says "Hey need a refill?" No dipshit, I don't need a refill. I need you fired. So I get my refill. Sipping more slowly on the DP this time because I don't want it to run out. 20 minutes has gone by. I still haven't received my food and my waiter has DISAPPEARED. WTF. So a new server comes and brings my food to me after about 25 minutes. Mind you, this is a club SANDWICH and a SIDE SALAD. My 15 year old brother can make and sandwich and grab lettuce out of a bag in about 5 minutes, so I would give them max MAYBE 15 to microwave the precooked bacon to put on my sandwich and toast my bread....sigh. So now my first waiter is gone and I think they just forgot to wait on me. Wasted about 40 minutes of my one hr lunch break waiting for food, then I just scarfed it down as fast as I could less my manager wants to ask me "So Andrew...where have you been. You were supposed to be back from lunch 10 minutes ago...did you get the memo about the TPS reports?" Fuck you. Anyways, very displeased with the service here at the Rotten Snatch and will never go back. It has ruined my flavor for every Rotten Snatch I will ever lay my eyes on. read more

While I am a stickler about customer service, I don't understand why people are so fussy over the service here. it's not fine dining. They aren't going to trip over you. They are there to get you in and out, just like AppleBee's and Chile's. It's been fine every time I've been here, and like I said, I'm a stickler when it comes to service! I really like that I have never had to wait for a table here. They have plenty of other customers but they always seem to have at least 1 empty table. Like I said, it's fast. We like the fish and chips. It's fast, it's easy, it's cheap and it's good! I've had several other plates but I usually stick with f&c when I go to Cotton Patch. OK, this was our third lunch here. I upgraded my rating from a 3 star to a 4. We have had the same server a couple of times now and she is very friendly and efficient. always nearby with a drink refill as soon as the glass hits the halfway mark. I had the Tuesday Tex-Mex menu item with Baja Fish Tacos. They were excellent and really hit the spot. My wife had the half sandwich and tortilla soup. she said the soup was better than many of the Mexican restaurants we have tried. The fact we had to wait several minutes to get seated is testimony to the crowds that gather here for lunch. We don't eat out much for dinner since my wife is such a great cook. But next time we are looking for someone else to cook, I think we will give this a try. read more

Dined here on Friday night with my family of four (not for the first time). My Wabbit Platter (veggie plate) was absolutely DELISH. Had the macaroni & cheese, steamed broccoli, fried okra, squash casserole, and black eyed peas. Not a single bit of it left on my plate. Husband enjoyed the fish & chips, and I do love that their kids meals come with two sides and options like fruit and veggies instead of only french fries. HOWEVER.... what I do not like, and what prompted me to write a reveiw, is that they charge for kids beverages! Sure it's only like $1.39, but multiply times two kids plus the incremental tip, and it adds more to the bill than I think is necessary. I can't think of another table service restaurant that charges for kids drinks or at least doesn't include it in the kids meal price. For those of you without children or simply think I am cheap, then please note that the food is good and you'll probably be happy dining here. But if there are parents like me who dine out on a budget or ones that have multiple children then be prepared for this. Or make the kids drink water. read more

I was there last Thursday and I told my server to call the manager or the GM that was in the store and she told me that The GM didn't have time to talk to me she said he was really busy in the office. I just wanted to talk to him about how there was 3 cockroaches in my table this is really ridiculous. I am never coming back again. I don't know if there's been cockroaches all over the food or what. It's not safe to be eating like this. What it looks like to me is that the GM doesn't care about the restaurant or about the safety of anybody in the restaurant. We tried cotton patch cafe before in Frisco and had a great experience. This location in McKinney is a joke. We were sat down immediately, but then took over 10 mins to have anyone acknowledge us. She took our drink order and asked immediately what we wanted. We couldn't tell her because we didnt have menus yet. When we got menus, ours were full of old food from someone else's dinners. The crumbs fell out everywhere. When we told the waiter, he was more interested in flirting with the waitresses then helping. Definitely disappointed read more

We have tried this place on a few occasions. The food is good. For those that are health conscious and/or vegetarian, there are choices. I am not clear why one comment by a younger party needed to call this place an inappropriate name. While these comments might be funny, they serve no usage and, frankly, should be deleted. The service was good. The food was excellent. The prices are reasonable. The menus have variety. Sometimes, it has been crowded but the turnover is fine. I see a comment about the Wabbit Platter which fits my wife since she is vegetarian. Frankly, I kind of like the grilled chicken. So...the update. This place has really gone downhill. We walked out a few months ago because we waited for like 20 minutes for a server. It happens, places get busy and sometimes they're short staffed. So we gave it another try a couple weeks ago. The place was filthy, food and trash on the floors and just dirty. So we were seated and I opened the napkin with the silverware inside. I'm gagging thinking about it. The silverware looked as if it hadn't been washed. My boyfriend opened his and it was also dirty.
