This Costco made sure I'll never spend another dime with Costco. I used to be like all of y'all. Would tell every and anyone about how great Costco is. My four and two year old daughter would come every few weeks to stock up, get samples , and eat at the food court. One my four year old has to use the bathroom. The family bathroom is in use and she only will go in the girls. I am her father. I make sure no one is out of a stall and we go into one. She uses the bathroom and as we are washing her hands an employee flys in to tell me I can't be in here. I inform her my four year old daughter is using the bathroom. Told once again it doesn't matter and she doesn't care. She leads us out and I ask to speak to a manger. I have never felt this disrespected in my life. My daughters are now crying because we were kicked out of the girls bathroom and I'm trying to figure out why. I asked the two disrespectful mangers if they would rather have my daughter piss on the ground or go see grown men that piss at the urinal. He told me those are two better options than taking my daughters into the girls bathroom. I was about to lose it so I left and immediately called Costco corporate. The lady that I talked to was such a sweetheart and apologetic and assured me I would hear from this store in 2-3 business days. SIX buisness days later (9 days in total) I hear back from a supposed GM who couldn't not care at all. Didn't give a shit that one of his mangers would rather have a four year old piss on the ground or go see grown men. And assured me I would get refunded on my membership abd everything sent my way. Three months later and nothing has happened. Do not give this store your business. read more

Huge selection with some interesting items that I don't normally see at BJs Wholesale. The staff are generally more friendly and quick to help and check you out than the staff at BJs in Greece, in my personal experience. I really enjoy their quick service at their food court. You can't beat $1.50 for a large beef hot dog and a fountain drink. They could keep a better eye on cleaning up around the fountain drinks. read more

Yay - Our wait is over. I am from upstate NY so have never really had the opportunity to shop at Costco as it was never worth getting membership while traveling. Membership specials right now give you a $10/$20 cash card depending on whether you get the regular or executive membership which are $55/$110 annually. The Executive gives you 2% back annually - so that may be a good deal if you plan on spending some money there. Keep in mind this doesn't include everything - as doesn't include gas. Gas is just as cheap as BJs/Sam's. First off the whole store is so bright and well organized. They have high quality brands such as Dyson, Kitchen Aide, Vitamin at decent prices. When they first opened we had samples of their Danish and sheet cakes and both were super tasty, moist and very reasonably priced. Their baked goods are down right cheap, tasty and beautiful. Meats appear to be good quality but on higher end cost. The produce is also generally more expensive and I generally wouldn't buy it here. Seafood is decently priced and appears to be very fresh and good quality. Love the local products they have - Dinosaur BBQ, 1911 Hard Cider, Local Beer options, Byrne Dairy Ice Cream Cookie Sandwiches on Choc chip cookies $10 for 12 pk - you need these! Their café is tasty and service is excellent. Love the Non-Fat frozen yogurt (Choc, Vanilla and Twist and can get with Strawberry sauce) The pizza was also surprisingly good - hot, fresh flavorful sauce and cheesy. The only thing I don't like is that they don't take Visa - Have to use Debit, Even at the gas pump. I hear though this is changing April 2016. read more

I'm kind of summer in between regarding Costco. I think that overall Costco is a great store where you can save a lot of money. At the same time all the hassle of finding parking walk in the whole store to find something if you need just one or two items in the long endless checkout process is something I consider before I come to Costco. If you have a big buy to make Costco might be a great idea for you. If you just something small I don't think it's worth it. If you live in a private home the easiest thing would be to stuck it somewhere and slowly use it. Five star for the prices. Two stars for parking. Two stars for check out. Go to heavy cheek but sometimes I rather go to a smaller place. read more

Again, Costco does it again, ordered an item online, still waiting for it! This update is to inform everyone it takes Costco 10 days just to print a shipping label! Really! I will not pay my credit card bill until I receive the item. Everything is like molasses for Costco, I have no idea why I continue to do business with them, SAM's club was always far better at getting things delivered in a reasonable amount of time and always kept me informed of when my items were ready to ship and out for delivery etc. Costco doesn't even compare to SAM's Club in customer service in my opinion. The only saving grace for Costco is their Travel, I've used it for a rental car this year and a vacation package last year and both did save me some money and were decent experiences so I'll give them one star. read more

I love everything Costco!!! The only bad thing is I leave with waaaaaay more things that I don't need! Quality of food it great, produce can be on the if-y side. But the meat and seafood is EXCELLENT! I recommend going on a Saturday and Sunday and people watching. It's amazing how nuts people get for the free samples. It's quite entertaining. My boyfriend thinks it's the best bargain around for lunch too. A hot dog with the works, chicken Caesar salad, and slice of pizza with a large drink for less than $9.00!! Being a single, lazy and kid-less guy, I don't have the characteristics to really acknowledge what Costco has to offer. Yes, there are an array of bulk items competitively priced; yes, they offer versatile services from eye exams to tire rotations; and yes, there's a bunch of fresh organic produce and meats... but I don't care. I only go for the hot dogs and cheap gas for my summer car. Wait! Put away your pitchforks. I DO like Costco, but here are some of my past grievances: 1) Bought some fresh produce, spoiled in a couple days 2) Purchased bread only to find tiny bugs in them when I got home 3) I've cooked the Kirkland's meats, but they don't even compare to my local Wegman's. 4) The service is okay, when I need help finding something, the staff has proved to be as lost as I was. Perhaps bad luck on my part... several times. So why do I have a membership? Well... it was a gift. I'll probably just let it expire this year. Just joined Costco last week and I'm pretty excited. I've pretty much had it with BJ's Wholesale (they're out of stock a lot, don't have coupon items, yadda yadda). Membership: Pretty expensive, but if you do go to the Executive level you basically get $60 back in a cash card! Plus you earn 2% back on all your purchases (add'l 4% I think if you get the credit card). Pros: No coupons needed! That's the best. No need to carry around a book. Many prices are lower than BJ's (some are equal or a tad higher) Better selection of electronics and furniture And of course... $1.50 hot dog and drink special lol!! Cons: Some departments are stocked with choices - i.e., Dairy. Limited choices. I can't get my Coconut milk there. Very, very crowded, but I've found that if you go on a week night it's better Have yet to try automotive and gas but I will get there soon! read more

Best selection of products among wholesale stores in Rochester area. Gas is also priced cheaper than other locations, with good layout of station. Plenty of spaces for parking, even when busy. Store has spacious layout, though can get crowded on weekends. Lines can get long at register, though will open additional lanes. Would be nice to have a couple self service checkout lanes if only buying a few items. Also good selection of samples during peak hours. read more

Costco is the bomb! After living on the West Coast for a year, in an area where Costco is extraordinarily popular, I had to check out the new-ish Rochester location. Overall, I was impressed. The store is nicely laid out, clean, and well-stocked. I had a blast browsing the bakery section, looking at home appliances I don't need, and trying to justify buying a 150 pack if K-cups. This store is on the smaller side, compared to some locations I've seen, but they still have everything you need. My only complaint is the unfortunate hours. I arrived before 10am on a weekday, and ended up sitting in my car (while a bunch of others did the same) until they opened the doors 3 minutes after 10. The store closes pretty early, so finding time to go might be difficult. If you want to ruin your diet, but enjoy yourself while doing it, TRY THE FOOD COURT PIZZA. read more

Time for me to talk about Costco, Rochester. 1. Gas often cheaper than Walmart. It's ok to go other side of your gas tank 2. Good parking lot 3. Lousy lines... and not enough check out lanes 4. Meh seafood selection 5. Good customer service 6. Avoid free sample hours. 7. Sometimes brands get switched out.... 8. Good deals at times- be careful to stick to your list plus or minus 2 items. DONT get tempted. I have a love/hate relationship with this place. On one hand, Costco gives me the bulk and prices that are pretty much unbeatable so that I still grumble my way with the no bags policy, too big shopping carts, horrendous parking lot, and wayyyy too long lines that require an art of mastering the correct time to go (which everyone seems to know.. so there's never a good time to go). Costco is great if you want portions that will last you at least 3 cooks/meals/weeks/months. If you're a foodie wanting more small boutique brands, or I guess, really a smaller portion to try out a new ingredient, Wegman's prices are not too far off from Costco. The variety: Alright, so if you're someone like me who makes everything from scratch, then this place is great for bulk... enough basic staples ingredients to get you through many recipes. For example, I have 6 cans of clams to make me 6 rounds of clam chowder, a thing of dried mangoes that's probs 1/3 of a mango tree, enough beef to make me 6 rounds of Taiwanese beef stew etc. In other words, good for repeat meals you make multiple times but terrible if you're trying out a new ingredient and really don't need 1 whole lb of rosemary... BUT costco has a very respectable spread of variety in terms of organic, fair trade, and honestly quality. It's really really tough to get into Costco as a brand b/c they are tough on quality. I think their dried fruits, meat section, pastrami/pasta/deli, bakery, and grains selection is good. I think their yogurt/dairy/seafood variety isn't so great. The floridian seafood section is great of course compared to this one. The fresh produce I think really struggles in the winter time- everything is drier, scrawnier, less in variety. Electronics selection is pretty good, as well as bulk one size bulky clothing, home selection, and napkins/TP/detergent etc. BUT I will say, their JUICE selection sucks. Cranberry and Apple. When to go? Alright, so either you go at 10:00 a.m. when this place opens or go when there is NOT free samples. Once those toasters/microwaves start whirling, you best start making your way to the check out lane. I recommend going on dead hours like weekdays between 2-5 p.m. and weekend RIGHT at 10:00 a.m. 11:00 a.m won't do- people have begun to figure out the avoidance of free sample hour. But if you like your free samples, I can't fight you if you complain about long lines afterwards- you were warned. Check out lane... way too little. They realy NEED to install the self check out lane that does wonders in other states. The lines can get long super fast.. Parking, not too horrible- I've seen worse in Florida and other states, but of course, come earl. Food court- rumor has it that they blinded tasters and 10/10 times Costco always won for cheapness/taste of their little diner food court stuff for everything. It looks super unhealthy to me, and I loathe anything packaged and frozen, but the people who eat there look happy. THEY RECYCLE. So if you have no where to recycle (hard to believe if you're living in the NE), then they have a pretty sophisticated looking recycling sorter area at the entrance. read more

Oh my God, what is not to Love about Costco? I am extremely impressed by the service. Probably the worst part about COSTCO for me is driving there, and it is not that far from my home. Living in Rochester it seems like everything is within 5 minutes away, so driving 15-20 minutes seems like a 'shlep'. Of course it's not, we're just spoiled brats. Once you actually go there though be careful, be aware it is easy to gain weight Costco gives a lot of free food to try. Generally I am very controlled, but for some reason I lose it here at Costco. I try everything, then I try it again. I go even worse, I talked to a cashiers named Jodi, who now has my phone number and promises she will call me when they have free cooked Ribs. This probably seems very odd especially as I am a vegetarian! See... Costco is that good about selling! Seriously I am very happy with there produce the quality is good and the price is very good especially if comparing it with Wegmans. We are now upgrading to a higher level so as to receive 2% back on our purchases. More so they now take VISA, which I will get yet another 2%, thus in all Inwill receive 4 percent of my purchase for an extra $55 upgrade. We believe we will use it enough, but they promise if we do not save the extra $55 they will give me the difference back at the end of the year. read more

It's the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. My Costco is packed with customers. I had a tire leak and thankfully got a 3:00 appointment. They couldn't have been nicer. Got me in and out in a flash at no charge because the tire was under warranty Then of course I wanted to pick up a pumpkin pie. They were flying out of the store. Every time I swung back to the pie shelf it was empty. An employee took it upon herself to check for more. She personally packaged one up and handed it to me!! Costco is so close to where I live, so I shop here quite often. Everybody knows of their great customer service and return policy. One time I saw a lady return a half used bag of potatoes (seriously?). They have good quality products, most of the quick are cheaper/comparable to Amazon. Their produce section is also reasonable. Their boxes of mixed greens and gala apples are usually cheaper than the other supermarkets. Haines ketchup are cheap when on sale, $4.6 for 3 x 44-oz bottles. Ferrero Rocher is really cheap when on sale, $8.6 for 21oz box, normally at least $12.5. Of note, the guy working at the gas station sometimes would check the pumps to make sure there is no credit card fraud scanner placed. I think it's a nice service to have, in addition to their lower gas prices. read more

This place is an event planners dream. Totally worth the approx. $60 annual membership fee. All the cups, plates, water bottles, silverware, etc. in bulk and affordable. Beyond event supplies, I also recently purchased a Shark Rotator vacuum cleaner for $250. Best purchase of all time. It works like a dream. They have lawn furniture and sunscreen and garbage cans and printer ink. If there's anything you need in bulk, this is the place to get it. They have great brands and organic food in addition to their affordable "Kirkland's Brand." Their Tuscan Bean Salad is my favorite thing ever. I've found good cheeses here for parties (Vermont Cheddar, Yancey's Champagne cheese), and the cured sausage is delish. San Pellegrino and Perrier. Local beer like 3HB, Ithaca Brewery, etc. They have Skinny Pop and Food Should Taste Good chips. Like many other spots, they offer samples most times of the day as you're wandering through the store. I wish the aisles were better labeled. I find myself wandering around trying to find what I need. And they still are strictly Debit or Check as forms of payment only and American Express is the only credit card they accept. read more

LOVE Costco!!! So much so I'm considering cancelling my BJs membership come renewal this year - which if you know me, you know I have loved my BJs membership the last 10 years! Signed up for a membership the day they opened and years later it's great seeing the same faces and them recognizing you and your family or knowing you by name. Go to Costco at least once a week whether for a large shopping or just to pick up a rotisserie chicken and eggs. Love their clothes, optical department, and the first place I go to purchase electronics. The reason I didn't give them a 5 star is: 1. The return line is always a ridiculously long wait. It's aggravating when you stand in a long line with one person doing returns and there are 4 or 5 employees signing up new members. Take care of your existing members first. 2. Recently I ordered a tempur-pedic mattress off their website. Yes it was $1000 less than anywhere locally and an awesome mattress but holy cow 2-4 weeks until it ships and when you call Costco customer service they have zero idea where the order stands until it ships. Felt aggravating especially when spending $2000 to just have to fly by the seat of your pants waiting for a mattress to show up. Still waiting 2.5 weeks into ordering and unsure of delivery. I want my new bed!!!! Not the Costco customer service I've known and loved in store. Overall, I will keep shopping in store but will be hesitant to order again a big ticket item online. read more

The deals are not worth the 45 minutes to an hour wait to check out. Our BJs membership was up so we checked out Costco and ended up with a membership. With 5 in the family, plus pets, bulk shopping is our friend. The store seems bigger than BJs and has a larger selection of certain items. Example: fresh ahi tuna in the seafood section. They also do eye exams on site. And they have ice cream in their take out area. Like any grocery place (and it's probably still new here), it was packed on a weekend day. I'm going to try and get our shopping done during the week! Updated to add a review of the optical department: They do not have an optometrist onsite yet. A minor inconvenience as we like our current one. I decided to try purchasing glasses here. They do not have packages like other places, including BJs. However, their prices are close or better than the chain spots. I even took my prescription home and priced out a few of the online places and the price was either the same or better at Costco for the options I picked. As my prescription requires a pretty thick lens, I opt for the upgrade to thinner ones which, costs more. My glasses were ready for pick up in 5 days. I fully expected to wait at least 2 weeks. My kids have already started looking for their next pair. read more

We visited the optical department at Costco today and were truly impressed. We picked up glasses that had new lenses added. The glassed were already value, but we were more impressed by the individual that assisted us. We were assisted by Ron Thomas. He is were very impressed by not only his knowledge, but also by his professionalism and general attitude. He answered all our questions in a professional and positive manner. I find the people who work here especially rude and unhelpful. From the minute you get accosted at the front door to show your card, to the moment you check out. From now until it expires, I'll just use my membership for gas. Even when the store isn't busy, it's hard to get through with a cart because everyone is huddled around the free samples. Speaking of which, I've observed that they don't use restaurant safety standards when making the samples. I signed up in 2010 when my son was in school in Cleveland, so when they opened a store up in Roch I decided to up it to Executive level. Not renewing Sam's Club... it's Cotsco (and, for now BJ's) all the way! Note: debit cards and Amex only for now. If you're making a major purchase, I recommend using Amex in case you return it. If you use a debit card for purchase, they will offer you cash back or a cash card. Would be nice if they could just put it back in the bank for ya! They ARE switching to Visa in the spring, which will probably help thump their membership. read more

Costco is so great. Their food is quality and affordable. The employees are friendly and happy, they seem like they are genuinely happy to be working there. If you come in at opening you're greeted with coffee and pastries. They have the best prices on nearly everything. Our family makes a trip of it as there are so many samples and they love to try new things. Weekends are crazy busy and can be frustrating to navigate. read more

I have always liked the beef and pork from their butcher. Last week I tried the prepared salmon. It was inexpensive, and divided into 4 or 5 large servings with a large dollop of herb butter on top. I really don't understand why consumers like this place. The customer service there is terrible, I feel like I'm being micromanaged while shopping. I can't even take my 3 year old to the potty with out a rule being attached to that. The prices are garbage compared to wegmans, the selection is garbage compared to other big box stores and I'm just not impressed! Pros to Costco: Cheap gas, cheap bulk quantity items, decently-priced clothing. Cons: Your cashier staff need to understand they are cashiers and not undercover FBI agents. I am so tired of having a negative cash out experience every single time. I go shopping for my parents everywhere - with their credit cards - and only was I told at Costco that that is "highly illegal." Ok girl, so please arrest me then. I stick to the male cashiers now because they have not once given me a hard time. Only the ladies. Also, very aggravating when you find a product you love just to go back and find out Costco doesn't carry it any longer. "Oh we are currently testing that product in our market." Yes COSTCO! I find myself shopping here for parties, camping trips or meal prepping. I recently acquired a sous vide and I tend to cook meats and freeze them for a rainy day. The Atlantic salmon packs here cook beautifully. Their meatballs are also very yummy. The beer selection is nooot bad either. Now the samples. Oh, the samples. Personally, I like to stick to the cheese section :-) I need to mention that they offer local and chain restaurant gift certificates at discounted prices. Last time I saw a $100 gc for Texas di Brazil on special for $79.99. And speaking of gift certificates. If the $60 annual membership isn't justified by the amount of trips and savings you project for the year, have a friend purchase a gift card for you and you will still be able to shop. All you have to do is give your friend's name at check out. read more

I genuinely don't understand why this place has such a following. We received a Costco membership as a gift last year and have been there 3 times since January. Almost everything I have bought there doesn't beat the unit price at Wegmans or Aldi's. Both times I purchased bulk produce (cucumbers and tomatoes) they went bad within one day. I have been able to find two things I really enjoy: their bulk decaf dark roast coffee, and their bulk organic cage free eggs. I also find their selection frustrating. We couldn't find normal whole wheat bread.. and when I was looking for creamer my only option was an International Delight French Vanilla 3-pack that would probably last me a year. Maybe a Costco membership somehow pays off for a large family that only purchases name-brand products, but for someone that actually wants to save money - pass on the membership. You are WAY better off buying family packs at Wegmans or one-off products at Aldi. We will not be re-newing. read more

I have been accused of being a "Costconite." It's wonderful. I live in Buffalo and drive all the way out here occasionally to shop. We make a nice day trip of it. They have a great selection of, well, everything. I read it's the largest selection of organic meats. The rest of their food tends to be higher quality and more refined. Their diamonds and jewelry are very well priced (go ahead and compare). Electronics the same, I love their warranties and customer service with this as well. Their take out food/cafe is soooo cheap and delicious. It's mainly sinful food though if you are on a diet. Worth a cheat. The only thing I don't like is that they can't sell wine in NY state. The Costco I used to frequent (in another state) had a glorious selection of wine and vendors present too. SUNDAY--this is the day to eat an entire lunch based on samples. Crowded but fun. read more

We were going to get a membership, and my husband asked how are you, in relation to Sam's Club, and BJ's, answer: We are totally competitive with both stores. So, we said ok, and were going to buy a membership. Then, it all changed, I gave them my Master Card, I was told, Oh, No, we don't take Master Card, only Visa, or American Express. My husband said, I thought you said you were competitive with Sam's Club, and BJ's, which by the way takes Master Card. After having some pretty major disappointments last year with BJ's, we decided to give Costco a try. We like Costco. On our very first shopping trip, we noticed that Costco does not carry as many name brand items as their competitors. Instead, they market their brand, "Kirkland's" or other lesser known branded products. Their prices are comparable to their competitors. Every time we visit, there are sample stations located throughout the entire store which makes shopping even more exciting. No cash is excepted at the gas station. Overall, the customer service at Costco has exceeded BJ's and Sam's club by a mile. read more
