Terrible experience with Scott and he bothers about payment. Some times several times a day. Do yourself a favor and find someone else.

I came here after a bout with suicidal thoughts after several years of underemployment and dealing…read morewith the threat of homelessness. I had already been on a waiting list elsewhere for several months. The waiting list is long, but so were the ones at all the places I tried in Ventura. I was able to be seen relatively quickly on account of having wide open availability. The first therapist I saw was not a good match for me, but switching to another was quick and easy. Now after several months of therapy, I've been enjoying life again, found a decent job with hope for advancement. This place has helped me immeasurably.

After a 30min assessment Veronica Bobadilla (Therapist) said my 15 year old needed "a higher level of care" than she could provide. She said she would write a referral for an IOP and strongly suggested we go to the ER. The ER sent us away because the child was stable. Meaning they were not going to harm themselves. They sent me back to beachside therapy for a follow up. Before that could happen I received a bill and termination of services letter. Obviously upset by this I called to investigate what was going on. Sean told me "we did refer you out" then proceeded to read a list of "referrals" provided in the termination email. Those "referrals" were to call 211, go to the emergency room and an Adult mental hospital. NOT the IOP promised. Instead of trying to understand the situation Sean made condescending remarks to me over the phone. Asking if he needed to do everything for me.... This is when I asked to speak to the office manager. Lucianna Hurley. Lucianna was originally defensive l when we spoke. I suppose she didn't like being called out for her office staff's demeanor. Sean originally claimed he was the office manager. After some extensive explaining Lucianna understood the problem. They were terminating care without providing alternative care. Just leaving a kid hanging with no help. She promised call me back directly with a referral. I've since called and left 4 messages on her direct line, I've called the office AND emailed. The only person that responded to my emails was Veronica Bobadilla (Therapist) who once again told me to call 211, provided me with an Adult Therpy center and not much else. I don't think this office knows what a referral is. After getting nowhere I had the idea to call a juvenile IOP program and ask to speak to their on call therapist. Within an hour I was able to get a real referral and the child starts the next day. I expect a higher level of professionalism. This office doesn't seem to be run well at all. After doing more reading. I'm learning I'm not the only person who experiences this.

No one ever responded so I called and was told they never responded because "I wasn't in network". I was, I verified it with my insurance, and had to go back and forth with them and their billing office multiple times. At this point it's been over three weeks since I started trying to get an appointment. I finally get them to agree to take an app time for me after all of this. I take off work early to go to it only to find out they never saved my appointment and it didn't actually exist. How does this office expect someone in mental health crisis to ever navigate this process and advocate for themselves when the office won't do their job and even save your appointment in their books?!

I did a Google search and found a directory on a psychology website and compiled a list of four therapists who sounded promising. I sent them an email detailing my situation. Of the responses I received, I was overwhelmingly most excited about Ruth. Immediately, I liked her voice and her soft but not fake or patronizing demeanor. She offered a free phone consultation so that we could determine whether she was the right person to help me. Thank goodness she was! I visited Ruth once per week or twice per month for about six months. She put me at ease, was easy to work with and helped me enormously. Six months later, I am still seeing the benefits of our sessions. First, Ruth asked me to set goals for our sessions. She reminded me of these goals often to make sure that they were still relevant and that we were on track. Second, she took the time to learn enough about my background and history that she could make connections but not so much that we weren't still focused on the present. Third, she utilized a number of techniques, gave me homework and recommended books for further learning on my part. Overall, I found her to be very thoughtful and engaged. She responded often and kept detailed notes so that she was always on the same page as me. I also felt that she was very empathetic and understood me rather than analyzing me from afar. Although I have little experience with therapists, I venture to guess that she is in the top five percentile. There is nothing I would want to change and I can't recommend her highly enough.

So low, that I had basically given up any hope of being happy. I tend to be a bit stubborn, but from the beginning Ruth had an amazing way of being both firm and gentle in her guidance and suggestions. What I soon realized was that she was helping me recover my sense of purpose, sense of self and a willingness to believe in a future where I could be happy. A year after beginning therapy with her, I can honestly say I am happier than I have ever been in my entire life, and although it wasn't an easy process, it was a gentle one. Ruth is a truly gifted therapist and an incredible person. She is both creative and grounded. By providing me with insights into both my good and bad habits, practical exercises and solutions, and by her own personal example she taught me that I could be the same way. I will forever be grateful to her for leading me out of a very dark place into a life I truly enjoy every day. She has been a gift, and I highly recommend her for anyone who has lost their way and is struggling to get back to a path of hope, happiness and health.

So when my neighbor invited me to a lecture held by Dr. Lozano I agreed to go, but the cynic in me had no expectations that I would be leaving that day a new person. I was wrong. What Dr. Lozano gives a person are a tools to better ourselves with. Some might think that's easy, but there are people out there plagued with doubts, worries, or insecurities that hold them back and if you happen to be one of those people, it might be time to find out why, that's what I plan to do. After lecture another attendant asked me, if I had gotten anything out of her seminar. I told him that surprisingly yes I had and it had surprised me because I had really gone in with a very ho hum attitude. For those who have been searching for answers and even those who ignore that voice in the back of your head, I really recommend attending one of Dr. Lozano's Meet up groups, they are free to attend, and you will get a wealth of information.
