From the moment we walked through the doors, we felt welcomed--not just by the smiles and handshakes, but by the presence of God moving in worship and through the people. Over the past year, I've experienced incredible spiritual growth here. The Freedom curriculum, Growth Track, and men's small groups have challenged me to go deeper in my faith and walk in the freedom Christ died to give us. I've met men who genuinely want to grow, serve, and support one another. That service was beautiful and genuinely moving, and it made me feel hopeful that I had found a place I could continue coming back to. Over the following weeks, I've had a very positive experience with the youth pastor, Cyrus. He has been thoughtful, compassionate, and engaging, funny and he reflects the kind of leadership and tone I was hoping to find in a church community. Unfortunately, my experience with the lead pastor, Phil, has been very different. His preaching style comes across as condescending and more academic than pastoral. Services often feel like a lecture focused on technical definitions and word analysis rather than spiritual guidance, reflection, or connection. I came to church to deepen my faith and sense of community, not to sit through what feels like an English or college Bible class. In addition, sermons frequently drift into political territory, with firm lines drawn on complex and deeply personal issues. That approach feels out of touch with the role I would expect a pastor to play and ultimately made it difficult for me to continue attending. Because of this, I've decided to continue my search for a church home elsewhere. That said, I would absolutely consider attending again if Cyrus were preaching, as his approach aligns much more closely with what I'm looking for in a church.

QR code was offered at the end and only two people held up their phones. IMHO this should have been a 5-minute discussion with "if you'd like more info you can go to the welcome center and watch a video". I hesitate going back, as the first impression left a taste in my mouth of "social justice warrior group" instead of community and worship. Don't get me wrong - I think church groups can provide services to the greater community and foster volunteerism among the congregation.

I was so excited and captivated by his ability to bring the word in a form that not only the older members could relate to, but the young adults, youth, and even children were on their feet. Then one night in the middle of the week, I had the blessing of witnessing First Lady Nakia Foster give her testimony and a message about the change that brought her to the new women she had become. I said at that moment when they start their own church we would follow them wherever they went... And that is exactly what we did. I feel so blessed that we were able to be apart of the birth of The Rock Church Bay Area and now we are in the year of the grounding. We are so excited to see what the next years to come will bring us with our spiritual growth journey. Pastor teaches us to speak what we want into existence. He says Say it out loud, Write it down and This way you can work on it. If you are looking to receive open arms, lots of Love, and a positive blessed word than don't wait another day......
