By the late 1870s there were over 5,000 interments in the cemetery, nearly 4,000 of which were of unknown dead. It encompasses 20 acres, and as of the end of 2005, had 7,137 interments. I like to visit and take photos. The last time I was photographing the wall and entrance there was an interment taking place. There was no family or friends, only the 4-5 men digging. I sat on a bench under the flag until they were finished. I didn't know the person, but felt they deserved my respect, enough to stay. Corinth National Cemetery was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1996. Along with other sites, it was included in Siege and Battle of Corinth Sites, a National Historic Landmark designated in 1991. This cemetery has space available to accommodate casketed and cremated remains. The dead represented 273 regiments from 15 states. In addition, there are three Confederate interments in the cemetery; one unknown and two known soldiers. The cemetery was originally enclosed with a wooden picket fence, which was replaced by a brick wall in 1872. Update: 1-2-2015 they are still repairing/replacing parts of the wall. May follow up with new photos soon.
