Laura immediately put me in a room. when Dr mark saw me he knew I needed more urgent care. he called an ambulance. but he was so kind & gentle with me. even though I was in agony, I appreciate that he knew his lane and that he shouldn't adjust or touch me. he took my vitals and let the EMT's do the rest. he easily could have let his ego get in the way. but he did not. he made the right call for me. because I wasn't in my right mind. I have had chronic back pain for at least…read more7 years and just before moving to Portland found out that I had the beginnings of a bone spur and other serious structural back issues that needed to be addressed. I tried a different chiropractor in Portland and they did a very simple assessment, and their diagnosis was that I was healthy and just needed routine upkeep?! I then went to Dr. Lou and was so impressed by and grateful for such an extensive assessment process. His process involved a postural screen, a measurement of muscle tension throughout my spine and nerve compression my spine, but also taking into account everything I had to self report. He took a look at the x ray from my previous doctor and spent a long time reviewing the results with me, discussing it from both a scientific and holistic approach. He made plenty of time to answer my many questions. He created a treatment plan for the next 3 months at which point we would re-evaluate. I have noticed such a difference! I remember when I first starting seeing him I would get up from the table and be amazed at the lack of pain in my neck and back. The feeling at first would only last for a few minutes, but as I continued treatment this lack of pain would last longer and longer after each office visit. Now a year and a half later I just occasionally come in. The front office staff couldn't be nicer or more helpful, Dr. Lou is fantastic, and they also offer acupuncture and I've had several great deep tissue massages here. Finally, both of my parents who live out of state were having major back issues and were planning on each having second surgeries on their spines. I asked Dr. Lou how he talks to people who are skeptical about chiropractic medicine and he gave me some incredibly helpful tips for how to approach the topic in an effort to encourage my folks to try a less invasive option before more follow-up surgery. His tips worked and my skeptical parents feel better and are able to be active again after only 3 months of chirpo and PT instead of being in recovery from another surgery. I deeply appreciated Dr. Lou taking the extra time to give me his insight (he even offered to review their cases/information!). During my case review he demonstrated that he has very deep knowledge and understanding of my disease, provided me with his realistic predictions of how he could help me, and explained in depth the various outcomes of my upcoming surgery. In my preoperative appointment he was compassionate, careful and clear, taking all the time I needed to review my case notes and help me understand my disease and the treatment that he had planned. Through his explanations, he spoke to me respectfully and was never condescending. He even took time out of his busy day to provide sight-seeing suggestions to my family so that they wouldn't sit restlessly in the waiting room during my long surgery. Before the surgery he was calm and reassuring to both me and my worried family members. Afterward, he clearly explained everything he had done during the surgery and what he expected my outcome to be. He provided me with his direct cell number and email address so that I could contact him quickly and directly if I had any concerns during my recovery. Once I was out of the hospital and recovering at my hotel, he visited me at my hotel room and painstakingly reviewed my operative reports and photographs, explaining clearly and in detail each task that he had performed during my surgery. I was a mess inside, but he managed to save one of my damaged ovaries and repair damage to my bladder caused by another doctor. She had been going here for years and swore by them. So, I made an appointment and kept it! And, you know - here it is about 5 months later and I'm really glad I did. I met with Dr. Cayer for an initial assessment which included x-rays and thermo scans. From here, he sat down and showed my where my "problem" areas were and shared with me a treatment plan. It seemed like an aggressive plan - 4 weeks with 3 visits per week, 4 weeks at 2 per week, and then onto a maintenance plan of once a week Now, I must admit a couple things. One - getting "cracked" scared the crap out of me. And, two - I wasn't really sure I believe it would help. Well - the getting "cracked" part is still very weird to me, but I definitely believe it works. My back is SO MUCH better. I have bad days here and there, but they are few and far between. And, the pain doesn't stop me from doing anything anymore. I look forward to my weekly visit - and it only takes 5 minutes. In and out! I've also used their massage therapy services and Mindy has given me the best massages I've had - at a much lower price point than any of the fancy spas I've visited in the past.
