Walter and Fumio, the owners, were delightful to work with. We purchased two of Fumio's abstract works and we could not love them more than we do. They are a treat for the eyes and have completely transformed the room that they are displayed in. Fumio Sawa is a masterful artist and his abstracts are stunning!, especially when you learn they are done by hand. And they are a bargain for this quality of work. We also have purchased two of his prints of birds that we love every time we see them. They too were quite affordable and the framing was impeccable. In addition, they have an art glass collection that is museum- quality. We purchased a piece of Venetian glass as a gift and the recipient was thrilled with it. If you are in the Trinidad area, we highly recommend visiting Fumio Sawa Fine Art if you love original and outstanding artwork.

The new home of the Southern Colorado Repertory Theatre Company (SCRT), as of Nov 2012. The…read morebuilding, formerly the Famous Department Store, and built in 1898, has great potential as a space for performances, seminars, banquets, an other special events. At the time of this writing the space is still a work in progress as a performing arts venue, and is in need of some very serious restoration work. However, SCRT has only had control of the space for a month an has made great strides in repurposing it.

One of my friends took me into Mutiny for some afternoon refreshments--little did I know this short visit would turn into a major highlight of the afternoon for me!!! From the moment I stepped through the door, I was transported back in time to an era of retro nostalgia that felt both comforting and exciting. The first thing that struck me about Mutiny was its unique decor. The walls were adorned with an array of retro decorations, from arcade games to black felt posters. It was evident a lot of thought and time was put into creating an atmosphere that was so cozy and captivating. What really sold me on Mutiny though, is the exceptional service and the wonderful conversation I had with David. From the moment I walked in, he welcomed me with a warm smile and a genuine passion for his coffee shop. David walked me through their beverage offerings and even took the time to geek out with me on retro stereo players and vintage furniture! Other memorable features include the (free!) arcade machines, comics for sale original in mint-condition, and the impressive cereal bar--a concept I'd encountered in much larger cities but didn't expect to see in the quaint town of Trinidad. The blend of quirky decor, the cereal bar, and, most importantly, the exceptional service and conversation with David made this small-town coffee shop a true treasure. Service was friendly and fast, prices are super reasonable. Lots of different coffee drinks available. They also have a cereal bar with a lot of different cereal. They dish it out by the scoop if you're into that sort of thing. Don't really have a lot more to say. There are a couple other places nearby but I think this place opens the earliest and you can actually FIND this place. Parking is easy during the weekends, don't know about weekdays. If you're lucky, on the weekends apparently, maybe the Hispanic kids will be there and you can grab one of their $5 breakfast tacos. Someone in the group got one and said it was pretty damn good.

Walking Main Street an thankfully stumbled upon this gem…read more A.R Mitchell was a Trinidad native and was known as "King of the Pulp Magazine Covers". Most of this art museum is dedicated to his works and accoutrements. If you are fan of Cowboy/Western Art then is a must stop. I Particularly was interested in the Spanish folk art, and Native American pottery. This museum hosts a lot of local artists, with Hans Droog being of particular note, his "Swirly Horse 1" is mesmerizing. The building the art pieces are housed in is 115 years old, this building itself is a work of art, the hardwood alone floors made me swoon. You can easily spend an hour here moving on the 1st floor then 2ed floor and then back down to the gift area. Allyson, was very kind to take time out of her busy day and explain Mitchell's relationship to Harold Von Schmidt who's use of color is unique, his style and expressiveness draws you in, you feel as if you are in the scene he has created. Allyson also answered a million questions, the chat with her was as interesting as the art work. Free admission is the cherry on top.

We had stayed overnight a couple years back on a roadtrip to Santa Fe. We arrived at lunchtime and were intrigued by this place. We liked the history of the place and the homey comfort. If you dine in be sure to read the information on the wall photos. We got a couple of Paninis: Turkey Apple Cheddar and Applewood Bacon & Ham. We pared the sandwiches with Sweet Potato Fries & Onion Rings, but more importantly Hanks Soda & fresh baked cookies! What a deal they have for lunch and great taste!
