    Unique steel shelves JAN2024

Old school since 1882. What a great library to spend relaxing hours reading a book inside or on their balcony. I just walked inside to take a peak and look at it's historic architecture and different style shelving.

Three stories high and full of wonder (elevators are near the parking lot entrance)

When we walked in, we were stunned. This library is a DESTINATION and we will visit again for sure-- not just to discover something new to read, but also to again experience the aura and preservation of glorious days gone by. The librarians are helpful and fun. They went above and beyond to help me understand how the Arizona and Cochise County Libraries work. Did you know you can check a book out here, then return it at any library in Cochise County? Bring a friend, park nearby, have a snack and coffee, tea, or smoothie at the Old Bisbee Coffee Company then walk across the street to here. Plan for a few hours. Don't miss the insanely inexpensive book store next door in the historical Post Office!

This is a second review. My first review was written after only one visit. Since then, I've visited…read morethis excellent library at least two or three times a month. Now I wish I could give it more than five stars. Has anything changed? Well, some of the books and videos are in different places. There are new personnel and at least one has moved away. But nothing else has changed except I am even more fond of the library and its staff. I have gotten to know them more personally, and gotten to know more about the function of the library itself, and know they and it really do try to fulfill every request. Need a book that doesn't seem to reside in any library west of the Mississippi? Chances are the really nice folks will try to find it for you, even if a complex search is required. Reasonably, there might be a financial cost for some rare or esoteric book, that has to come from far away, but surely no one can carp about premium service. Heck, even such outfits as Amazon charge more for premium service -- and Amazon doesn't begin with a basically no-charge service in the first place. One last comment: For years, ever since he was a kid, Baxter Black has been one of my heroes. And recently Baxter Black himself made a public appearance at this very library! And I got to be in the audience! Baxter Black is as fascinating in person, and on video (he presented one that was hilarious), as in print and on radio. To sum up: I LOVE THIS PLACE!

Huachuca City is a dinky place, population about 1,800. Yet it provides its residents and residents…read moreof the surrounding community, including Whetstone, where I live, with a lot of services. For example, there is a two-bus transit system that carries people around inside Huachuca City and even to Sierra Vista, a much larger city -- about 40,000 -- with stores and restaurants and movie theaters. There is an excellent 5-star library (that is, I give it five stars), a fire department that is right now, November of 2017, having some internal problems, a police department that seems too large for such a dinky town but I've had no dealings with it so can't further comment, and some problems with the politics of the town -- about which I am ignorant so can't and won't comment. But, where I can comment, as with my dealings with Jeanette, the nice lady who handles appointments for the bus, and the wonderful library employees, a 5-star rating is appropriate. For anyone interested in moving to Southeastern Arizona, I strongly urge you to consider coming to this area. Homes in Huachuca City can seem ridiculously low, especially to this former Californian who can say you can buy an entire house and yard here for what would barely be a down payment in, say, Los Angeles's San Fernando Valley. And you won't find, anywhere in these United States, nicer, more cordial, more friendly, more open people. It's a great place to live and to do business.
