Copper Hill BBQ is to BBQ as Olive Garden is to Italian food. It bears resemblance to the real thing, but it is far from it. This is the kind of BBQ that passes for good BBQ if you live in a place like Santa Clarita where there is none or it is very expensive for something decent. It is fine at best and off-putting at worst. The only reason people visit this place (that has pasta on their menu for some reason?) is because they cannot afford to leave this state and enjoy great food that fills your soul. I am one of those people as well, but rather than eat here, I just cry myself to sleep every night. Partially because I can't have good BBQ, and partially because whenever I talk to someone from SCV about the lack of good BBQ, they always recommend this place to me. It has been a while since we last picked up from Copper Hill BBQ. It is a very nice eatery in the Gateway Village shopping center off of Newhall Ranch Road. We placed our order online and received great communication regarding our order via text. Pickup was seemless. The parking lot can be challenging, however they have an ample amount of parking spaces for online order pick-up. We ordered the brisket meal and the tri-tip meal. Both meats were tender, lean and very flavorful. We enjoyed the smoked baked beans and the creamy mashed potatoes. The Texas garlic toast is thick and not very flavorful to me. This place is very popular and for good reason. I've been trying to eat here for some time and every time I've shown up, it was very crowded and there was no place to sit down, so I left. This time I showed up at an off hour and boy was it great! I ordered the turkey meatball sub. It was a very large delicious sandwich. It came with a choice of one side order. I selected the mediterranean pasta salad as my side. It was also delicious and they gave me a very generous portion. We sampled 4 different meats and each one was cooked perfectly, tender and tasted so good! 3 of us at lunch today so we each ordered different sides and extras so we would have left overs! Ehhhhh. If I was rating this based on being barbecue I'd give it 3 stars. My husband and I have been wanting to try this for a while since the reviews are so good. We went without our kids which already puts us at an advantage since we were able to eat peacefully. :) We ordered the turkey, tri tip, Mediterranean salad, baked beans, banana pudding, and garlic toast. Everything tasted clean and as though it was made with care. But it wasn't slap you mama good. Like if I went to an American dinner and this was served I'd say, ok that was decent. But there was not any of the grimy down home taste that we like when eating bbq. It certainly wasn't bad, it just didn't scratch the bbq itch if that makes sense. He did really like the banana pudding though. It's more light and fluffy with real bananas in it. He said that's a sign that they make it fresh because the bananas weren't browned. The service was great though. In a time when restaurants are cutting back on staff and having one person take orders and cook, it was great to see that they weren't trying go cut corners and were fully staffed. They checked in with us and made sure that we had what we needed. That bumped them up by half a star or so. We came here over the weekend on our way to LA after seeing the poppies. We found out about this place via Yelp. It's highly rated so, why not give it a try? It did not disappoint! I ordered a bowl with brisket, rice and toppings and it was made fresh! The place was small but it was clean and well maintained. What a great find! We stumbled on Copper Hill BBQ on Yelp while looking for a good place to eat on our drive from Fresno back to OC, and we are so glad we stopped. I ordered the salmon plate with honey lime sauce and a side of cilantro rice. The salmon was cooked just right--moist and tender--and the honey lime sauce was delicious without being overpowering. I enjoyed every bite. My husband had the smoked turkey breast and loved it: tender, flavorful, and he savored the whole thing. The BBQ beans are their own recipe with a mix of different beans, and the garlic toast was a nice touch too. The service was just as fantastic as the food. Since it was our first visit, Matthew at the register gave us excellent recommendations on what to order--helpful and genuinely engaging. We came here on a friday night and got here at the right time before they got busy. We ordered the 3 meat combo which came with 1 side order. For the meat, we got the brisket, tri tip and pulled pork. For our side order, we opt for the mac and cheese. We also added the street corn. So here's the verdict: the meat are all tender and not dry. They were cooked to perfection. We added a lot of bbq sauce which made it even better. The Mac and cheese seemed to be home made and not like the one from the box. It was very cheesy which he is how he liked it. The street corn was very good as well. The price for our order was reasonable and service was great. The staff would always check on us to ask how we are doing and if we needed anything. The place isn't that big so indoor seating is somewhat limited.Though they have outdoor seating, we didnt see that they have heaters. It was my first time at this location and as soon as I walked i was greeted friendlyby the staff. Even though i looked up the menu online but seeing in it person they really have a lot choose from. After a bit of debating i decided to with the staff members recommendation which was their $10 dollar lunch special which came with a with a soup, salad and half a sandwich. For soup I chose their signature one. It came with chicken, cheese and tortilla chips. I wasn't familiar, nor could I recall having a soup like this and after having it the flavor was pretty tasty. If you are able to get a scoop with a little bit of everything in it they harmonize really well with each other. Next is the salad and I chose the house salad, but with no dressing because I they didn't have my favorite one. Still even out dressing my salad was pretty good. Each bite tasted fresh, cool and crisp making it much more enjoyable and refreshing despite not having dressing to it. Lastly the turkey sandwich. It came with turkey, tomatoes, onions and their sauce. I am not a fan of onions but I want to give an honest review so I had the sandwich as is from what was shown on the menu. Despite having the onions on it most say the sandwich was delicious. The ingredients balanced it each other out and the sauce had a light, more like a soft kick to it that you wouldn't feel unless you took few bites consecutively. I learned the sauce had some green sauce so that would explain the kick to it but sadly I could not learn what else it was made with but it wouldn't change the fact that I really enjoyed my sandwich. I used to be a huge fan of Copper Hill BBQ, and a big reason why was their Takeout Family Specials, especially the tri-tip deal. It felt like one of the last genuinely good family takeout values around. Sadly, that seems to be over. In a time when prices are climbing everywhere, this was the kind of special that kept us coming back. Losing it is really disappointing because it was not just about the food, it was about feeling like you were still getting something fair for your money. My family visited tonight for our first time and we are just in awe! From the food, to the service, to the prices, everything was AMAZING! Many BBQ joints in SCV have really gone downhill on quality, you get less and pay more, but not here! The portion sizes are very generous and for a great price! Their ribs are tender, juicy and fall right off the bone, their loaded Mac n cheese is decadent and their Texas toast is delicious! Out of 5 different meals, they were all excellent.
