Coop is a supermarket in Italy, as I discovered today, the franchise was founded in 1967 in Milan and ssurprisingly, too my knowledge has nothing to do with the Co-operative (Often called Co-Op, of which we have in England, who have food, funeralcare stores, banks etc.
I just called in to grab a drink and have a look around, having not seen many supermarkets in Rome and wanting to find one, to grab some milk especially, with my local hotel charging 6 euros for 2 small glasses, in the UK it is £0.89 - £1 for 4 pints at most supermarkets, and I barely got one for what must be over treble the price, but that is another review, for another place.
They didn't seem to be any special offers on the drinks, having cost 2.95 euro for a Powerade and a Diet Coke, but still that isn't badly priced so I'm not really upset they wasn't an offer.
Queuing is mixed here, it isn't very pleasant, and can be long but can be little to none, and very narrow to get down, making it a nightmare for wheelchairs.
This supermarket, I wouldn't even class as one compared to UK standards, where we are used to huge stores, and in my opinion, this would be classes as a local store or newsagents over here, rather than a "supermarket"
The staff here seemed okay, and to speak very basic english "Thankyou" etc, this isn't a big deal as they was not much I needed to ask them, and if you know what you need, it is easy enough to translate yourself due to its' appearance for example milk, ham, cheese, you won't mistake them for water, bacon and flour for example.
This isn't the nicest of stores but still does have most of the basics needed and for central Rome, a massive supermarket isn't really needed, this is just for all the basics while in the city really.
As I have not seen many supermarkets in Rome, I want to give 3 stars but still as it isn't the best it could be for a supermarket and it wouldn't be up to UK standards to even be in contention with the huge Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury's but still I feel 3 stars is quite fair. read more
