A big factor in her long history is easily the positive and nurturing approach from the School founders - Denise and Rick Vogt - which extends faithfully to their faculty, and better yet, to the student body. (Aside - their students have begun participating at the Youth America Grand Prix, and we routinely get to hear that some are being awarded scholarships to prestigious schools across the country. Quality wise, they're truly top-notch) If nothing else, my daughter's dance experience gave her a supportive, safe environment to pursue her talent and learn to bring out her best. Bharatanatyam is a classical dance form originating in Tamil Nadu a Southern state in India. It is one of the oldest of the classical dance forms in India and is usually accompanied by the classical music. It has its inspirations from the sculptures of the ancient temple of Chidambaram. It's mostly noted for its sculpturesque poses and the fan-like costumes of it's dancers. I'm actually not a Bharatanatyam dance, I've had over 10 years of dancing Kathak which is a more graceful and floaty style of dance from India. I was very fascinated by this dance studio and really wanted to take a class. I registered for the summer session, where I met with a diverse group of students, the age range of the class ranges from small kiddies to adults. In the non-air conditioned rooms, you learn the basic steps of Bharatanatyam, which uses a lot of core muscle balances. At the end of the hour long session, I felt as if I ran a marathon. It really is a great work out, and something unique at the same time. My teacher, Tamara is attentive, and gives you constructive feedback. It's a lot of fun learning from her. If you're interested in learning something new, or a great work out, you should give them a shot. They also preform in collaboration with other dance forms, which makes for a very creative experience.

Had no idea how HUGE this place was on the inside looking at it from the outside. They have two…read moredance halls, one small, one massive. The dance we attended with my in-laws (English Country Dance) was in the smaller dance hall. Both had gleaming wooden floors. I was admittedly somewhat confused when I saw the sign on the door that was very prominent about taking off your street shoes before entering... yet everyone in there had their shoes on... So no one was following that rule? Anyway, I took my shoes off and stowed them (plus my water bottle) in the cubbies they have for that purpose inside the dance hall room by the benches. Speaking of, they had a good number of benches for sitting out a dance or two if you need a breather or just want to observe. There is also a kitchen area with a refrigerator, microwave, and sink, as well as a couple tables with chairs. They had plenty of bathrooms, a men's, a women's, and a gender neutral (that part made me happy). Nearby there was a billboard advertising lots of upcoming events within their space. I was disappointed to see that a couple of the flyers were obviously AI-generated, and I think this establishment should very seriously consider banning the use of all and any generative AI flyers. I would think that a dance studio that regularly hosts bands and musicians, as well as has lovely quilts hanging up designed by quilters would comprehend the utmost importance it is to protect artists and NOT allow gen-AI in any way, shape, or form! I did like their posted rules for engagement that focused on consent and autonomy. Apparently this place underwent a major renovation in 1999 when they bought the place and moved in, and I'm pretty impressed how well they must have been upkeeping it for it to be in such good condition still twenty seven years later. There is both street parking as well as a small lot off to the side of the building around the corner from the cactus shop.

The instructors had us dancing to songs starting with the first class to make sure we could do the basic steps fast enough.
