This credit union is way out of control. I came to it by way of the merger of Andigo Credit Union (formerly Motorola Employees Credit Union). The service at Andigo was fantastic. Very personal, caring, and fast. This place is the opposite. Any time I want to do something online it's an ordeal. When you make an online credit card payment it takes a week for it to be processed, even though it's been withdrawn from your paying account immediately. Most of the customer service reps I have dealt with have been cold and brittle, acting like they have some kind of power over you. Today for the first time I spoke to a nice, caring customer service rep, who explained to me that the credit union has a policy of not crediting payments for 4 or 5 days, and that there have been a lot of complaints about it. The worst credit union ever! I've been a customer for 5 years and never missed a bill or overdrawn my account. They denied my claim for a refund after I shipped a defective laptop back to the seller who defrauded me. Now they refuse to refund my money. Now I don't have a working laptop and have lost hundreds of dollars. I opened the claim 10 days after I received the laptop and found it defective. They made me wait 5 months before denying the claim and saying it's been too long since the purchase of the laptop. Outright criminal behavior. And their customer service and managers constantly lie, saying they'll call me back and to just wait longer but the issue has not been resolved after 5 months! read more

I'm pretty sure that they are out of business as their messaging system has said "temporarily unavailable" for the week that I've been trying to use it. Fortunately I switched primarily banks a while back; now I'm just trying to use up the last of my miles and it's been a cluster. Via phone you will be transferred a million times before reaching a person, and you will get several notifications that you are "calling outside of business hours" even though they will then list the hours ... and you are indeed within said hours. Once you reach a person they will tell you that they are the 3rd party to handle calls and aren't authorized to do anything helpful. read more

I called to inquire about a mortgage recast on my adjustable loan because I paid down my home equity by a huge amount and wanted to know the new payment. I spoke to a mortgage rep "Nicole" and she was so mechanical and rude. She told me that I had to send a request, fill out forms, along with other things to request the mortgage recast. She spoke so quickly and sounded like she was so not interested in speaking to me. I then ask if I don't do that will it readjust itself in next months payment and she said yes. So, why would she not just be helpful and tell me that?? She has this dismissive attitude and lack of helpfulness when I dealt with her. I started having these issues when Andigo was acquired by Consumer Credit. I have been with this credit union every since it was MECU and never had any issue with MECU or Andigo but Consumers Credit the loan officers and people that deal with the credit cards along with depositing checks that have been signed over to you, these people have a major attitude. This is the first time in over 25 years that I have been with this credit union that I am thinking about leaving. read more

STAY AWAY. If you want to deal with a credit union, it is because you want a local joint that actually cares about you. If you want a bank that deals with you as nothing more than a number - I mean - at least they are a national joint that offers service worldwide. I don't know if they are incompetent or racist, They contacted me regarding refinancing my car. They approved me for the loan and told me that in order to get the loan I had to become a member. I went to their online portal to sign up as a member and was told twice they could not confirm who I was. I feel sorry for the employee who was going to make a fat commission off of me but can not because his company is incompetent. The reason why I say possibly racist is because I recently moved. So the address on my credit report and on file is different, So I provided them with a copy of my new lease and a copy of a cable bill at my new address They still rejected my membership, I believe had I been white the documents would have been acceptable. read more

Husband & I had been hoping the customer service would eventually get better. Unfortunately it has gotten worse since the conversion from meadows credit union. We were on hold for over a half hour just to be told we need to solve our own online issues, we'll be closing our account very soon. Representatives are not helpful at all! read more

This is a nice credit union. I have had great customer service when I go in at this branch and at other branches. The website is okay and the app is okay. The website and app need aren't the best but I haven't found completely useless either. Both the website and app need to be updated in terms of what we can do on them and make them more user friendly. Consumer Credit Union does offer the products I need. The rates are good on various products. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I prefer walking into the credit union. The Northbrook branch is the smallest of the branches I have been to and it doesn't have drive through but other branches do. I will continue banking here. read more

Not even a year after the merger with Andigo, I canceled my credit card and my entire membership and leave Consumers Credit Union. I've had my account since the 90's when the bank was MECU. The moment CC bought Andigo, the trouble started. First, they "lost" my check, charged me interest and a late fee. The very first month. I had to resend my check and cancel the first one. At some point CC tried to cash the first check, now canceled, and charged me another canceled check fee. I had to spend hours getting help and then used the card sparingly after that. Even so, I experienced not once, but three other times where I sent payment via my bank where my bank claimed CC received the funds 4 days before they were due, but CC didn't accept them until 2 days after payment was due, thus allowing them to charge me interest and/or a late fee. This happened yet again in June and July of 2022. I had a small balance in June and sent funds that my bank claims to have delivered on 6/14. Payment was due 6/16. CC accepted the funds on 6/18 and charged me interest. Hence, I had a very small bill in July, less than $2.00. So I sent $2.00 to be sure and again, my bank delivered that on 7/12 this time. CC accepted the funds on 7/18 and charged me a $25 late fee. No longer able to deal with this corrupt and predatory bank, I called yesterday and cancelled everything. The representative immediately removed the late fee charge and canceled it all and will be sending me a cashier's check for the remaining balance in my savings. I'm sad to lose this bank. Sad MECU sold out to the most corrupt credit union in America. But I'm glad to be done with Consumer's Credit Union. read more

This place gave me one of the worst experiences I've had with a credit union. The lady at the front desk didn't know how to complete a shared banking transaction. She then directed me to the ATM which ended up eating my money. When I alerted her of this she told me to write down my contact info and she would have her manager Susie call me back. That never happened and I had to call her eventually. I was then alerted that there was nothing they could do and that I had to file a dispute with my credit union. read more

Worst banking experience I've ever had. They charged 300 dollars in overdraft fees when the money to cover overdraft was in Savings. Called to complain and get charges removed. They basically told me to F off. So I stopped using my account. Checked it today, and found out my account had been compromised. 0 transactions this year. That is the most serious customer service issue, refusing to help in the time of need. I feel like I'm caught in flood waters while you pass by after shining your spotlight on me and identifying the problem. I'm left to fend for myself. That's what needs to be reiterated. Your organization is not attempting to resolve the issue. Your organization has wring its hands and refuses to help. I've always had a good experience here. Friendly staff and courteous. And cookies! Not sure what automated process the other person ran into but that's pretty much par for the course these days to get started. But for regular transactions it's always face to face. Have only dealt with CCU via telephone. Must say this bank has the worst CS I've ever encountered with a bank. They have employed a third party call center that is entirely useless. They basically just collect data from you and then send it to a branch employee to look into and "call you back". You rarely get a call back and if you happen to miss the call back, you'll have to call the call center again and the process begins again. Also I used their online bill payment system. I used one approved payee and made multiple payments to that payee. All the payments were promised to would be paid electronically at the time I submitted the payments. I noticed larger amounts were switched to paper check a few days after it was confirmed that it was promised to be electronic while several other smaller amounts were either done electronically or via paper. Also one of these paper checks arrived late and have not been reimbursed for any fees I incurred. Do what you say...if you say electronic why switch to a paper check? I wonder if they are having liquidity issues and the extra few days of having the funds on the books helps with the regulators. read more

When I went in the credit union and opened my account I was very excited but as of july 3rd I applied for a loan and have yet to speak to someone to find out if this loan was approved or denied the woman sent me a message and still has not returned any emails or phone calls Im very unhappy with them. Consumers always gets written up in national personal finance publications' lists of high-interest checking accounts. But if any of the reviewers had bothered to try applying for an account from out of state, they would have discovered that getting one is pretty much impossible without visiting a branch. Here's how it works: Consumers puts you through an insanely complex application process with all sorts of identity documentation you must upload, full credit check with a HARD PULL on your credit, and a myriad of questions. Then, every time, no matter if you have a 700+ credit score like me, they reject you because of undefined "verification issues." They flatly refuse to tell you why you were rejected. When I once got a phone support worker to crack and give me a hint, he told me the secret was to wait till you'd had the same address for a year, then make sure that same address is the one on your drivers' license, then re-apply. So, I waited a year, got a new license (at not inconsiderable cost) and re-applied. Rejected: "can't verify your identity." Email: "Why?" Reply: "For security reasons, we can't tell you anything. Come into a branch." Lesson: if you're far away from their branches (which are all in small-town Illinois), stay far away from this scammy credit union. read more

This organization is the worst! They financed my auto loan and my payments were all made on time. I sold this car and requested a payoff quote. When we arrived at the buyers bank (PNC), I received a combination of two bank cashiers checks to take to consumers credit union to pay off my loan. When I arrived at Consumers Credit Union I was informed that I could not pay off the loan with two checks as it had to be just one. So, they deposited the two checks into a savings account they had created and told me that they would call PNC to have them cleared. However, they did not and I was told it would be 14 days before I could use the funds to pay off my loan. Meanwhile, my payoff would accrue interest on their behalf daily. After several phone calls of complaining they cleared the two checks and paid off the loan. However, they refused to release the title until 14 days???. I am perplexed as to why this could happen. They were bank cashiers checks from PNC and they had been cleared by consumers credit union but, I still needed to wait 14 days for some unknown reason. I would never use this company again for any type of loan! So annoying! read more

No longer able to talk to a real person on site...sent through an automated cycle of uselessness. I have paid a Home Equity line of credit 1 month ahead of time and confirmed Consumers credit recorded the payments as "early". Yet, received a notice today: YOU ARE DELINQUENT... Your Credit Rating can be negatively affected! I called Consumer Credit. Alia at the Call Center is unable to assist. She will have a "Specialist" call me back, at some unknown time in the future, "shortly you will receive a call back". I asked if it would be today? I do not know was the response. I asked for the phone number to the Northbrook Branch. Alia at the Call Center, stated the Northbrook location does not a phone number I can provide to you or transfer to for customers. My advice- avoid consumer credit union find a different customer oriented bank as especially as Consumers Credit will affects your credit rating! read more

This place is a mess. First off, their website is a joke. You can't download bills, or get any information on your auto loan. You have to constantly call representatives and spend hours on the phone to do simple things every other bank in the world can accomplish in 5 minutes online. Everything is manual and so they make mistakes on all the paperwork they send you. They can't even figure out how much your payments are. Then when they mess up the paperwork and they have nasty collection people call you because your auto withdraw had the wrong payment amount on the "contract". They said it is up to me to know what the payment is and to correct all of their mistakes. God forbid I thought the bank might actually know how much I owe them every month. They apparently do not have time or energy to give you the correct information or possibly invest in a proper banking system that can spit out your payment amount correctly. I refinanced my auto loan just to get away from them so luckily I am through with this awful company. read more
