Everyone in the consulate was polite and helpful which made the process a lot less intimidating…read more The only problems I had were the long waiting times (I would have been able to leave about 90 minutes after my scheduled time, making the total time spent there 105 minutes - I would advise against making hard plans afterwards in case of delays) but also being asked to wait to be called up to pay a fee, only to never be called up. This may have been easily avoided if I raised that I had read on the site that there was no issuance fee associated with my visa type, but I wasn't 100% sure so decided to wait instead of ask. If unsure, ask at any counter when they are free, they are friendly and will help you.

A docent explained that the aboriginal people were here for thousands of years, she showed us in photographs how their land was taken from them once the Europeans arrived. We talked about how the native Americans have had a similar story. They were exhibits about women's rights and jobs that are no longer needed in Melbourne. Downstairs we went into the gold vaults. There were films and displays about the Australian gold rush. We spent about 30 minutes exploring the treasury, admission was free.

Thomastown also have a computer lab which means your more likely to get a turn on the public computers. The staff are great and happy to help you with any questions from where is the nearest bottle-shop to what is the meaning of quantum physics. Give this place a miss on weekends. For one, its only open for three hours on Saturday and secondly the car park and surrounding area will be buzzing with Saturday sport activities. Lots of parking and a location next to the new Thomastown Leisure Centre makes it a handy place to stop of to satisfy your library craving.

After 3 years of break from traveling, we wanted to find a great tour while we were in Melbourne. I…read morefound his tour on a very popular Japanese tour guide book and decided to join his tour. Mr. John picked us up at our cruise port for 4 person private tour with the main event being a visit to 12 Apostles on the Great Ocean Road. During the ride on the GOR, he continuously informed us of places and history of the area we are passing through. He also showed us some bush craft showing us edible plants, served Japanese barley tea and ANZAC biscuits - delicious! He knew where to pull over for great photo opportunities and stopped at a local favorite eatery ( we enjoyed locally caught fish & chips). We ended up touring about 10 hours and he made it very enjoyable- as if we were traveling with our friend! We will highly recommend Mr. John. He also offers "Penguin Tour" at night but we did not have time to take this one. We will go with him again next time we visit Melbourne! It was definitely the top of our tours we took we had during our 69 day cruise (Hawaii, French Polynesia, and Australia circumnavigation).

As part of the Yarra Plenty Regional Library Service Ivanhoe Library has an amazing range of books, DVDs, cds and magazines. Ivanhoe Library hosts a wide range of events and has all the services you expect from your local library plus all the extras that are available at a YPRL branch. The ground floor is home to the information desk while the first floor has a Wii room and Genealogy area, the top floor is a space for events and study. From the third floor the view of Melbourne's CBD is stunning, a total distraction from your study. Free wifi and CBD views. What more could you want? On a balmy summers evening my favourite way to take a study break is grabbing an ice cream from Cosi Duci and spend time catching up with friends at the courtyard outside the library. It may not be the most modern building or innovative space, but as far as a traditional library atmosphere, Ivanhoe has it!

We learned not just about the filming of the show, but also quite a bit about Melbourne's history and architecture. At every filming location she took us to, Kathy had a video clip from the show to share with us on her i-Pad. We ended the tour enjoying a signature Miss Fisher cocktail as well as great conversation about Melbourne with Kathy. Would definitely recommend to anyone who is a fan of the show.
