Very small pasteleria on the banks of the Nervion and not far from the Mercado de la RIbero. All the baked sweet treats that you could possibly imagine and this is where I had a "Carolina" and learned the legend of it from my tour guide.
First, the "i" is pronounced eee and not eye. So it's "kah-ro-LEE-nah". And according to the legend, the daughter of a baker liked to eat lots of his baked goods, especially the chocolates and the meringues. She was always getting her hands all sticky and dirty from the treats, so he came up with a way that she could eat them without getting sticky. A pastry base, which you can easily pick up, and then a swirl of meringue that's topped with honey and chocolate. It looks a lot like an ice cream cone, but it won't melt.
And it's AWESOME. Delicious and a superb way to finish off a three hour walking tour of the great city of Bilbao.
Confiarte also has an espresso machine and a few barstools if you're looking to get a coffee to enjoy with your sweetness. read more
