I was a member of the church for 23 years. During this time it was a good church for my children and I to grow in the word. The church was bible based and opened its doors to all. I was involved in several ministries and after my husband passed away, the church became my second home. I left because over the years the population of the church dwindled down to a few faithful families. Members died, moved away, or joined other churches. It is difficult when a few are asked to do the work of many. I came to a point in my life where I did not want to be called on to take on so many responsibilities. The pastors of this church are loving and caring leaders. One of the comments is that they do not know how to serve. I found that statement to me untrue. Sister Connie and Brother Rod serve beyond capacity, but others are also needed to serve. A church cannot survive unless the members use the gifts that God has given them to support the ministry. I am no longer part of the congregation but I still give thanks that Coney Island Gospel Assembly is a beacon to the community. read more

We can be church goers or we can be serious about the Lord. Coney Island Gospel Assembly and it's caring, compassionate Pastors love ALL people and are indeed serious about the things of the Lord. The founding Pastor Jack San Filippo and his wife, Rev. Ronnie, were the bulwarks of the Coney Island Community, addressing the needs of the downtrodden while spreading the Gospel of Christ in the highways and by-ways, with the strong Pentecostal Bible message of salvation. I miss those soapbox street ministries and Holy Ghost-filled Church services. So now, the tradition has continued to this day with Pastor Rod Hulla and Pastor Connie San Filippo Hulla preaching and teaching the unadulterated Word of God in spirit and in truth, while feeding the poor and needy through their generous pantries, responding to trauma in private and community emergencies regardless of who or who is not a member of the congregation. I wanted to give zero stars but it wasn't an option. This may be a "gospel assembly", but it is surely not a house of God. They are self righteous imposters of faith who exploit the people that seek their support! They do not know what it means to serve, let alone how to host services; specifcally, going home ceremonies. They criticized the obituary for the funeral of a faithful member of 20 years to her grieving daughter, insisting that she change it immediately because they did not feel the Church was highlighted to their standard. Furthermore, if these changes were not made, they would not host the service and the family was to pick up the body of their loved one. This is beyond dispiccable and it's flabbergasting that a so called Paster would even have the audacity to suggest either of the two! Jesus, who is not only the son of God, but the King of the Universe, washed the feel of his disciples. He taught us how to be humble and serve. The actions of this Pastor and staff was lamentable; and it is my hope that no one else's family will be subjected to such dishonorable treatment. read more
