Having a place in town for a couple weeks, I was happily surprised on my first visit as to how reasonable the grocery prices are. The main reason is that the locals shop here too and having the advantage of it being a co-op, the prices of everything are kept reasonably low. The dry goods, fresh meats, cheeses, local produce are all top notch. Open everyday, but closed between 1100 and 1600.

Pro: they have some basics and you may need some basics…read more Cons: claustrophobia-inducing store on a street swarming with confused tourists, extremely impatient cashier who yells at people constantly - don't block the door! Don't come in now too crowded! Make a line to pay! Please stand there not here! Now, she wasn't exactly mean...it was more the style of a school teacher herding unruly children. I don't envy that job one bit. I think these particular locals share an ancestry with those matter-of fact-blunt New Yorkers. But a very unpleasant shopping experience nonetheless.

Located not far from the town square, it's right along the footpath leading from the main road into the heart of the municipality. You'll find plenty of your basic staples here: meats, cheeses, olives, oils, vinegars, and wines. Similarly, must-haves like soap, shampoo, and sunscreen can be purchased here. Note that the prices on the last bits can be unexpectedly exorbitant. Whether or not that's due to the import costs or to gouge tourists is an open question. This is probably your best bet to stock up on bottled water, particularly if you're staying in Corniglia and don't have far to carry the giant-sized ones. The wines are generally affordable, with a few bottles costing a mere €5. Don't have high expectations, though - even though they're labelled as Italian wines, I was nonplussed, and I'm no oenophile. As far as monopolies go, the proprietor here seems to be generally benevolent, and could readily jack up prices beyond what we experienced during our visit. It's certainly a mainstay in this hamlet, and has a certain timeless charm that's worth experiencing first-hand.

Good wine selection, fruits and veggies. Also fresh fish, seafood and meat counter. We bought some nice Bottarga, lots of canned tuna and anchovies. Seafood broth. Fresh chicken and beef. Veggies and salad. Some milk and soda. Also needed a cookie box - and found it here. Quality was good, prices are fair. You pay at the cashier (cash or card) or you can you the convenient self-checkout. Accepts even small coins or also cards. The shop might look a bit dark and dated inside, but it was a good shopping experience and we've found everything we've needed.

It's the one with the baby in the circle if you happen to be a water snob like me. It's a challenge to find decent tasting bottled water throughout Italy. So much of the bottled water tastes odd, even if the tap water is fine to drink. I was told by a reliable American that the best water thus far had been in Firenze, and the worst was in Venezia. At any rate, it's better than SoCal water which I won't touch. I can't help it that I was always spoiled with good water my whole life! Anyway, they had tons of my water here, all for--get this--30 cents for a big bottle. No wonder the Italians complain about the prices of our drinks! That's how they should be priced. I didn't even get a chance to check out the wine and cheese but I was happy. The self serve check out was faster than SoCal, too which is why this has to be a four!
