A beautiful church in the Jardins neighborhood of São Paulo. When I went, there was mass going on and out of respect, I sat and stayed during the mass and took pictures after. From outside, it doesn't seem much (maybe Church of St. Basil in Moscow vibes) but the interior is stunning. It reminds me of churches in Portugal because of the colorful tile work but with cheesiness by adding the ceiling paintings like the "Creation of Adam" in the Sistine Chapel.
There are small rooms worth checking out - they all look different.
The church was founded in 1940. The design work, modernized Brazilian colonial style, began in 1942 until 1956. Antônio Paim Vieira, painter and ceramist, was in charge of the interior including the paintings on the ceiling. One part starry sky with Brazilians looking toward Virgin Mary and baby Jesus...and the weird copy of the Sistine Chapel ceiling paintings.
Oddly enough, this church is meant to represent being Brazilian...despite the Russian and Italian influences. It's confusing.
