Varenna is a traditional village, located in the eastern shore of Lake Como, which is an optional stop for anyone visiting Como area. It's a small town, very walkable, usually visiting duration would be around one hour if you're with any day tour. I would suggest you to come on your own if you don't wish being rushed. read more

Very cute little town. We took a quick boat from Bellaggio. If you want to see Villa Cipressi garden it's 8eur pp. Varenna also has Villa Monastero - admission to its garden for a fee. We choose Villa Cipressi because it was closer. It was very gorgeous, we took plenty of photos, enjoyed beautiful lake view seating in a nice shade. Walk from ferry its very simple but its uphill so bring water with you. We went in September and still it was very hot and sunny. There is not so much shade there either. Also you can hike to Castello di Vezio to get beautiful view of the village but be aware it's very steep. It takes around 40 minutes. Also while walking you will see beautiful narrow streets, water views , little church and small stores & restaurants. After that we hoped on other ferry to go to Menaggio. You can visit all of these places within a 1 day like we did. read more

Varenna is a town that you will be stunned by. Very small town located on Lake Como. We took the early morning train to come up to Varenna before making pit stops along the way to get down to the town of Como. Varenna has some amazing views specially in the morning tome when there is a haze/fog on the top of the water and you can get some awesome pictures for your memories. It is a pretty small town and we were in Milan in February hence most of the shops and restaurants were closed as this is the off-season. Yet they were tons of tourists exploring the streets along the water front. 5 star town would love to come back and spend a few days here. read more

Beautiful. This is the only word to define this whole area surronded by Lake Como. You can reach Varenna by train and the price depends from where you leave. It is usually fairly cheap at about 2 or 4 euro pp. You can easily walk through this villa and bask on the sun while enjoying a tasty variety of homemade Italian gelatos. There are plenty of restaurants too and it is all reasonable priced and the view is fantastic from any point in this area. Vezio's castle is in Varenna and after a looong wall up the hill, again the scenery is the reward. Ferries to Bellagio also depart from here. read more

Visited Varenna in September of 2015 while on a day-trip from Milan, Italy. Varenna was my favorite town on Lake Como. It is much smaller than Bellagio, and in my opinion, more picturesque and less touristy. The narrow streets and steep stairways give Varenna its charm, and the town has beautiful views across Lake Como from its lakeside promenade. Walking around the town was a joy, with great photo opportunities around every corner! If arriving in Lake Como by train at the Varenna Station, definitely take time to walk around the town before departing by ferry to Bellagio or other lakeside towns. read more
