Dirty, very very unsafe. This city could be so charming and lovely. However drug dealers and criminality on/from locals is on the raise. The huge issue here is that if you somehow get intro trouble (very easy at night time, downtown or in the suburbs) you can always call the cops(phone number is 17 in France): they will not come! Cops don't give a damn about your troubles, no matter you are being robbed at knife point or simply because groups of drug dealers are being very loud all night long in front of your place: Police will NOT help.. Few cars burned in front of my hotel room. Firemen took 30 minutes to come over. Cops didn't even come. Traffic is terrible. The design of several intersection (pres d'arenne, corum, city hall...) is a complete non-sense. Roads can be blocked for hours because of bad lanes design or because of trams passing by. The tram is over priced. The city is not clean (lot of dogs poop and waste on the streets). I know Montpelier residents pay so much local taxes (one of the highest in France)...for what? read more
