Our experience at the Rodeway Inn was horrendous…read more
We arrived at the inn, and immediately through the doors we were confronted with a large puddle resulting from a leak in the ceiling. Both the leak and the puddle were still there when we left. We continued over to the front desk, where a rude and barely bilingual man (neither of us speak French) attempted to check us in. He was unable to clearly explain or answer any questions. He handed he a contract to initial, but the while thing was entirely in French with no English translation. The only part I was able to make out was the deposit of $200, which hadn't been mentioned beforehand AT ALL and he wasn't able to elaborate on. For one, this should have been clearly laid out at the time of booking and for two, this deposit is completely out of the range, especially for such a shitty place. We had been travelling for an entire week and not once did we encounter anything anywhere near that. ALSO not only should the inn have their contracts laid out in various languages, but at the very least the concierge should be able to explain it on a basic level. I tried asking a few questions but he was unable to understand, so I gave up as it had been a long day of travelling. The inn's booking.com profile mentioned a restaurant, so we assumed we could have a bite to eat. NOPE. No food. He attempted to explain that they only serve breakfast, and for that you pay extra (even though my understanding was that it was free), and was not able to give us any suggestions in the area.
We were told to park around the back and unload through the outdoor entrance. That entrance didn't open with the key card we were given. When we finally made it in through the badly kept indoor hallway entrance, we found ourselves in an oddly shaped and appointed room. The bathroom was half in a teeny room with a sink outside (beside the entrance) and an angular wardrobe in the middle of the room made it hard to maneuver. Everything looked ill kept, and it was clear that a paint job and some white sheets were the only recent investment made. The inn's "lipstick on a pig" aesthetic was less than pleasing, and the photos online made it out to be much nicer than it was in reality.
After settling for the night and heading to bed, we were rudely awoken at 5 in the morning by a commotion in the hallway including slamming doors, loud talking and beeping. Once the party responsible moved into a room, the noise continued. There was a literal orgy happening in what turned out to be the adjoining room, complete with awful sex sounds, television, and all kinds of commotion. We could hear every footstep, cough, bump, bang, sheet crinkle, whisper, beep and tv show as though it was right there in our room. Oh, and they smoked every few minutes both inside and out, so our room soon stank of cigarettes. WHY IN THE WORLD would you put a loud, early morning check-in next to clearly sleeping guests? Especially when the inn appeared to be largely empty??? Why??? Well, the answer is that THEY DIDN'T KNOW WE WERE THERE. Our incompetent concierge didn't check us in properly, or so the morning concierge told us. WHO by the way was unable to help at all and offered us no apologies. As a shitty end to an abominable visit, as we were checking our route we saw our room advertised for $55, nearly half what we paid, and they wouldn't honour that price or even offer us anything in the way of making reparations. In fact, I've seen it advertised since at all kinds of cheaper prices.
Booking.com advertised this listing as "great value". Never again.
OH and when I tried to lodge a complaint with Choice Hotels, their owner, I was hung up on.
