Reminding me of my medical appointments and reminding me to take my medicines. Parkinson's and diabetes have been diseases I have as well as , problems with walking. My helper is always there when I need any type of help. She prepares my meals when I'm hungry. Most of all, she is providing conversations when I want to talk. We are working through the V.A. for me, I am limited to 16 hours a week. My Home Helper she helps me tremendously. Up til now, mom hasn't been interested in having anyone "in her house", yet she couldn't do it all herself anymore. Lois selected a caregiver to match our needs, Carla (my hero). We've had two visits. Carla has vaccumed, cleaned out the frig, and cooked. Here are some direct quotes from my mom today (7/30/2014)... - she cooked some of the best salmon I ever put in my mouth - she made it fun rather than an ordeal (cleaning out frig) - I'm extremely pleased, super job, pleasantly surprised - she took control, went in there and did it and did it well - we were kidding each other, enjoying ourselves Carla lives close to the town grocery, and said another thing she can do is shop for groceries before heading to mom and dad's house. She keeps her eyes open and notices areas she can help in, plus, is open to any ideas I want to text her. Lois is a marvelous blend of professionalism and, what do you call it? "Down-home neighborliness". When you meet her, you feel like you've known her all your life, and you can tell her anything. She really knew how to talk to my mom. Lois "gets it" regarding dementia patients; she's a retired geriatric nurse. Right now Carla is coming one day a week, for four hours each visit. The cost is $19/hr. As mom and dad need more help, we can increase the hours and expand the tasks.

Some said it couldn't be done -- and if I hadn't had Lynn and the movers she referred me to, I probably wouldn't have made my deadline. I had done a lot of research before I found Lynn. I was VERY RELUCTANT to use a "service" to find another assisted living facility for my mom, as we'd had a HORRIBLE experience the last time with "A Place for Mom" -- they were SO BAD -- But a friend referred me to Lynn so I called her. She, too, had had a bad experience with that Place, so she understood my hesitation. She gave me a few places and I called. I felt like she definitely knew the properties better than I did AND she NEVER pressured me about anything. She was helpful, kind and patient through the whole maddening process -- SO MANY things to consider! This is not an easy business to be in & there is a LOT of competition for few rooms available -- especially when a whole facility is shutting down & everyone is looking for new apartments.
