We were here a part of a Rocky Mountaineer Rail tour. After having lunch at the Altitude Restaurant, we stopped at the Skywalk. It was early in the season, so there were very other people visiting. There a long walk from the bus drop off to the actual skywalk. To me that is a very good design. It cuts down the the congestion of large crowds, and also allow the curation of other information about the geology, wildlife and history. There were park rangers narrating some of the displays. The skywalk itself if amazing. Not only is it impressive from an engineering perspective, but the views are amazing. It might seem scary at first, but once you set foot on it, and realize how well built it is, your confidence will urge you forward. It's literally breathtaking. After the tour, they did a nice job of providing a instagram photo op, and the guides are happy to help you with picture taking. Definitely a bonus if you are out this way. read more

This is one of the main attractions at the Columbia Icefield Visitors Center. It is included in the price of your icefield visit and is apparently a mandatory stop for your tour here. I thought it was optional but your bus from the icefield will take you straight here afterwards. I don't know why anyone who bothered to come here would want to miss it anyway. It's an overhanging structure that will provide for some great views of the canyon and surroundings. Depending on the crowd size, there could be a wait of maybe 30 minutes to catch the bus back to the visitors center. Overall, an impressive attraction and must-do! read more

It was a great experience and it is one of the 7 wonders of the world. I went on a tour that included a buffet as part of the tour. They stopped at different places and the tour lasted at least 6-7 hours. Well worth the money. You have to do the tours in order to go up to the ice-field or you have to get the tickets ahead of time for the ice-field ride. The water is drinkable up there. I'd recommend a small tumbler. You can splash the water on your face as well. Dress warmly and wear water proof shoes. read more

I really liked the visit to the glaciet part. When it was time to go on the Skywalk a really rude New Zealand girl who did not want to answer our questions, that the ride was 8 minutes to the Skywalk and that the shuttle comes back ever 15 minutes so we could get back whenever we wanted. What she did NOT mention is that there is a 20-30 minute wait to get on the shuttle each way. Nope. read more

The Skywalk Overlook is part of the packaged Columbia Icefields Adventure Tour. What's good about the entire combo it is that you get to first experience the "main event" of it all...being driven to Athabasca Glacier and getting to stand on it and hang out for a little. After discovering Athabasca Glacier, you're next transported over here...to the Columbia Icefield Skywalk. This Skywalk Viewpoint is a 180 degree extension bridge walkway that's built along the side of the mountain. And...what makes it quite unique is that the glass floor you stand upon is see-through, translucent. For those who like that type of thrill, then you'll appreciate this aspect. For me, I'm not such a fan of heights so I just had to look straight ahead and obviously not pay attention to what lied below, lol. And good thing it wasn't windy outside which would have made for difficult conditions. While at Athabasca Glacier, you're afforded 30 minutes time to explore about and take in the sights. But here at the Icefield Skywalk, they give you just 15 minutes to stand on the overlook and appreciate the surroundings. I felt like 15 minutes was too short of time. Granted, this Columbia Icefield Adventure Tour is one of the most popular activities in the Canadian Rockies...but I felt a little jittery rushing around trying to capture the best photogenic moments. And...especially because I'm nitpicky about having strangers in my pictures...to find that blissful perspective was pretty hard to achieve in 15 minutes. It felt more like 5 minutes really, and I had to accept that fact or miss my return bus ride back to the Icefield Lodge, where tours initiated from. Also, I will admit that the backdrop scenery was just okay. I mean, it was an overcast day during my visit. But, even with a clear setting...the mountainous peaks weren't memorable. If I had to compare standing here to admiring the sights along Icefields Parkway Drive...I felt the better offerings came from simply driving along the road. But, I guess, as long as you get that chance to enjoy your time on Athasbaca Glacier, that's what really counts. This Icefields Skywalk is simply a bonus addition to the entire experience. And...maybe that's why they only afford you 15 minutes. Because...the views are decent, but not the primary reason why tourists venture out into this remote part of Jasper National Park. Another detail was...for having such limited space on the skywalk bridge, it was hard to maneuver my camera stand around. I felt a little overwhelmed trying to recognize what's the best way to soak up the atmosphere. Then...one of the skywalk attendees noticed me struggling with my photographies and happily volunteered to take a bunch of pics of me. Lol, it definitely saved my time while here, lol. Overall, I think because I was still internally feeling such a high note from standing on Athabasca Glacier...that coming over to this Skywalk Overlook Bridge was a "nothing to lose" moment to add as an extra activity to the entire experience. Although the views and brief time given to admire the background wasn't spectacular, I still left with a satisfying feeling knowing what it's like at this vista point perspective. read more

Loved the beautiful views from this attraction! And don't forget to look down as you walk on the glass floor if you like heights like I do! (and if you're a bit more afraid, step gingerly along it or walk on the non-glassed in part). The audio tour is pretty helpful and I liked the fact that there are continual bus rides back to the Glacier Discovery Centre. There are no washrooms here, so be sure to use the facilities at the Glacier Discovery Centre before and/or after your walk on the Skywalk. The architecture is impressive and I liked how there were staff showing off interesting things to the kids there. Staff were also helpful narrating tours for some groups. Sure you can see pretty impressive views elsewhere on the Icefields Parkway, but this viewpoint is outstanding. It's a great way of capping off a Glacier Adventure visit, but it is also a great sight to see on its own. read more

The skywalk is completely Overrated! One can experience the similar view while driving through the Icefields highway. The architecture and engineering marvel is something to adore but the view from the site misses the WOW factor. It wasn't worth the time I spent there. read more

Honestly I was not amazed. It is very crowded and really could not see through the glass bottom much. As part of a package tour deal it's ok but I wouldn't just pay for it alone. There are way more amazing views in the Canadian Rockies. There is an audio tour that's in many language's that's ok. read more

Included in your glacier ice walk is this stunning 360 wide cliff glass walk. Buses drop you off as part of the tour, and you enter an exclusive walkway that leads you to the skywalk. It is a hit on the pricey side, if you're considering on saving money you can still get pretty similar views off the side of the highway at a pull off. Scenes change with seasons so make sure you come back often! read more

I want to bring to your attention the staff and location of the glacier franchises. Firstly, there are no signs to show where parking is located for the glacier tours. It took us a 1/2 hour to find it and we missed our tour time. More importantly, we encountered a flat tire as we approached the parking lot. After the glacier skywalk tour we spent 3 1/2 hours talking to glacier view inn, guest services and bus drivers in hopes for some help to fix our flat tire. We managed to replace the flat tire with our spare one by ourselves and ALL WE WANTED was a little help in patching up our original tire or ANY HELP we could possibly get - whether it was paying ANY MECHANIC on site or privately to help us. This was on a Sunday evening where our drive back to calgary was 300 kms with NO SERVICE and NO GAS STATIONS/MECHANIC SHOPS and we had a flight back to the states early next morning. Even a 1% chance of getting stuck in the wilderness could result in something terrible! Everyone working their was so UNHELPFUL and RUDE. They all said they had ON SITE MECHANICS however their BOSS said that he wont lend out a mechanic to help. Manager Chris said that ALL their mechanics were busy. My first time in Canada and I didnt know that Canadians could be so heartless and corporate. After driving slowly for 5 hours on our small spare tire on the highway we finally made it to banff and the shell gas station was incrediby helpful! The boss sitting at home skyped his worker and showed him where the repair kit was! So thoughtful! Thank you! read more

I was skeptical, but have to say it was worth a stop. Not sure what it costs to just go here since I went as part of an all day tour, but assume it is spendy. The engineering alone is worth a visit, then add the amazing views, the nicely done audio tour, and the glass floor section and it was pretty damn cool. I thought I was not scared of heights, but when I got the furthest out section of the glass walk I had to grab for the rail. My wife is super scared of heights so she passed on this, and that is probably a good idea. read more
