    Marsh & Legge Land Surveyors

    Marsh & Legge Land Surveyors

I purchased a property which had a survey done by this company back in 2002…read more The plat accessible to the online public, had 2 places missing whether or not a pin was found or set. That was questionable. I hired them to come out, find, set, and mark the property boundaries and lines. Just to be sure I knew what I now owned. The same side in question from the previous plat, the side with missing pins, had 22 pine trees in the path of the line during my survey. I have since had the trees removed, and noticed that the marker stakes are snaked, where it should be a straight line. It's evident to anyone with functional eyeballs. When I called the company to address my concerns, I was first told I'd receive a call the next morning. By mid afternoon of the following day, I still hadn't heard back, so I called, again. Which was fine, things happen. I was transferred to speak with Mark. I explained that the line was not straight, and how I understood a mistake could've occurred due to the pine trees. I also mentioned to him that the two days the survey was being done, it was terribly rainy, too. I simply assumed there was an equipment error. Mark was condescending and unwilling to even consider that his company could be anything but infallible. It was a gross display of human interaction. After sighing and showing no sign of being interested in my questions or concerns of the $1,100 job his company did, he finally agreed that someone would come out, but it would take a week. He gave me 2 different days, (a Friday and the following Monday) that he would have someone come to recheck their line. He made it very clear that if the line was in fact, straight, he would charge me for that time. I assured him that it wouldn't be a problem because I'm not blind, and I know the difference between straight and snaked. We ended the conversation with the Friday and Monday on the schedule. Confirmed. Not surprisingly, the company was a no-show. No phone call. No excuse or apology. Nothing. They wasted my time. But, like I said, they already received $1,100 for the job. What do they care about professionalism after the fact? The check was cashed. This isn't the only platform receiving this information. The BBB is being contacted, as well. Please, if you need a survey done on your property, look for a reputable business. There is absolutely no excuse for these unethical practices to continue.

Customer service is not this company's strength. The first time I called them to let them know that…read morethe dishwasher has not worked since we rented into the house, I was immediately given attitude. I noted this on our inspection, and it has been four months with no corrective action. The dishwasher has power and makes noises, which can fool any inspection, but water does not runs through the appliance properly. Dishwasher soap literally petrifies after it is inserted and the appliance cycles. Upon notifying the VA property group of the details, I was immediately confronted with defensive chatter and I could not even describe my issue. Rather than simply having my issue addressed by a professional, I was given disrespect. Something tells me it will be a battle to retrieve any of our security deposit. The appliances in the kitchen are very old none are fully functional. This was annotated on the initial move-in inspection, yet nothing has been done or acknowledged. This is my first time renting, I have owned several homes, just not in VA, and rented them as well. We just moved here from Florida to pursuit new careers and had little knowledge of housing in the area. I rented housing in Blacksburg, VA as a student 16 years ago that were in better shape with better management services. Virginia property group has demonstrated nothing less than predatory landlord behavior thus far. If they wish to have this posting removed, they can email jamorto1@vt.edu and continue the conversation if they learn some manners.
