If you want a change from the many tapas styled bars and restaurants in SoNo, give colony grill a visit. Their beer selection and thin crust pizzas are perfect for a casual night with friends. Known for their hot oil pizza, I expected dipping oil that had been heated as a side. I was surprised to learn hot oil is actually just olive oil that's been infused with hot peppers. The oil wasn't overly spicy though and it complemented the delicious thin crust cheese pizza. Prices aren't bad and the staff are all really friendly. I find the interior of Colony Grill especially cozy and warm like an Irish pub on a winter day. read more

If the 5 start rating is not a give away, please know that I been here about three times in that past couple of months. The two things that stand out for me - the salad pizza and the stingers. To be honest, not a fan of the salad pizza - my taste buds were honestly confused by the leaves that I was eating in the name of pizza. It taste fine but I don't think I'll be up for that ride again. Now, onto the reason that bought me back to this place multiple times - the stingers. This was a unique taste to say the least - absolutely loved the spice from the stingers. The pepperoni and stingers pizza was my favorite. If you do not tolerate spice, do not order this. Round two of the GF pizza challenge took place at Colony Grill for dinner. (Earlier, I enjoyed a GF pizza at Lunch Box.) I love the concept of Colony Grill. Serve pizza, with limited toppings, at a great sports bar, and throw in some stellar service as well. The fact they also offer a gluten free crust is a bonus for those with food sensitivities. Our party of five ordered a bottle of Chianti and set to ordering pizzas, one each. Popular toppings were pepperoni, sausage, hot oil, mushrooms, onions and cherry peppers. Boy, is this pizza tasty! I opted for pepperoni and mushroom on a GF crust, and sparingly added some hot oil that we ordered on the side so everyone could try some. I've never had pizza like this before. It's not ny style pizza maybe ct style? Def delicious super yummy! Very thin crust which I love! Bacon and hot oil. Trust me you will thank me later! A big thank you to one of the best venues and staff for holding a large (or small) group celebration. Colony Grill Pizza was the right pick (thanks Tammy) for our Belinda's special 60th birthday celebration. The event actually turned into a mini family & friends reunion. We arrived to the "SONO" (South Norwalk) Colony Pizza with 30 hungry party ready people, in sunny mid afternoon and we were seated in their beautiful open views area, with plenty if mingle space and wonderful autumn views to the outside. Special thanks to Brian, our manager, first for his cooperation and coordination and secondly, for his choices of a few of his best set of personable polite servers that kept folks fed, tables cleared and took our grand Birthday group photo. The bar was also an honorable mention. Great martini. This place proved to be a perfect location, (free parking garage), excellent management, clean, and affordable. (I'll provide parking and navigating tips below). Look, there are four bar style pizza places in CT that are world renowned. Don't believe me, google worlds best pizza. Colony is one of the four. Go try them all (one has a small take-out/restaurant in Norwalk, the other two are from New Haven but one has a location in Fairfield and the other supposedly was going to have a location open in Norwalk). We have always loved Colony Grill but the pizza we were served on our last few visits over the last six months or so have not lived up to the taste and quality that we were used to. The pies seem to have no flavor now. We need to add salt and go heavy on all the condiments now to get anything out of it and it's still not that good. I am not sure what it is, maybe the sauce is not the same? I am not sure if others are noticing or maybe we were just hitting it on bad nights by luck. I do hope they turn it around. This goes for every one of this restaurant's locations - it's the best pizza I've ever had. My family comes here on just about every special occasion we have in a year. Pro tip: order your pies with hot oil on them. They're good on their own but the oil, as the staple of the place, elevates the flavor from "pretty great" to "peak apizza". If you're anywhere near a Colony Grill, don't miss out. And if you prefer deep dish Providence- or Chicago-style pizza... well, I don't recommend it unless you also like pizza that isn't deep dish. Whomever wrote "keep it simple, stupid" was thinking about Colony Grill. We needed a spot to celebrate an important life event and someone suggested this joint. I'm so glad they did. When I and my co-diners arrived I legit thought the menu was a drink list give how simple it was. Just a few toppings--that's it. I ordered half-meatball and half-pepperoni, but honestly the toppings don't friggin' matter because I'm here to tell you--the crust is some of the BEST I've ever tasted. I'm from NYC *and* I've made hundreds of rounds of dough myself at home. I'll spend the rest of my life trying to recreate the magic in this crust. So good, in fact, that I brought 2 slices home with me to eat for dinner in Atlanta. I can only hope they consider opening a pizza shop here. I'm writing this as I walk back home after waiting almost 20min for an order I placed online nearly an hour ago. I don't quite have words for it but it was pretty blatant how differently I was treated compared to others around me for simply waiting for my order. I ordered one pizza and watched as person after person came in picking up orders of 2-6 pies and were greeted with smiles in a way I just wasn't. Finally I calmly requested they cancel my order and issue a refund which required me to repeat that ask to three different people before finally being told my order was "2nd up next" and update I never received before then. I was assured I'd receive my refund and I left. I'm going to leave it there because honestly I don't believe I'll ever go back to this place even with it being so close. We went to Colony Grill on a recommendation of a friend and he was spot on. We were greeted right away and seated quickly. The waitress was very friendly and explained menu. Pizzas were excellent! We each got our own and most of us ate the whole pie! I had half pepperoni and half cheese. Yum! We were checked on consistently and always had a full glass of whatever any one was drinking. I've gone to colony more times than I probably want to admit... but truly any combination of toppings on their bar-style pies is just incredible! If I had to choose, my go-to would be a hot oil salad pizza with cheese and sauce. ALWAYS ask for extra balsamic dressing on the side and pour it over your slice. Colony is delicious!!! read more

Really this review should be a 4 star. I've always loved coming here and to this day I still go pretty consistently. As long as good pizza and good beer is you're thing then you'll love colony grill. That's their whole image and their proud of it. I have to admit that in todays restaurant climate with what seems to be endless menus of the most diverse food combinations possible, it's amazing to see a place that specializes in just one thing. Pizza. And that brings me to why I rate this 3 stars. The famous pizza known up and down the east cost just isn't as good as it used to be. Now when I order my pizza I can't help but to remember how good it was compared to the pie I'd be eating at the moment. It's a amazing part of Stamford's history and I want it to succeed. Well, this might not be popular, and if you live in Fairfield County you might understand why - I think Colony pizza is overrated. There, I said it. Why? Well, I have tried pizza from many places in the United States, and abroad, and frankly, I don't even consider it pizza. Pizza to me has some volume, and crust that has some chew. Colony pizza is missing that, and tends to be greasy, and lacking in value - i.e. the ability to fill my tummy. I don't want to buy two pizzas, and here I feel like I have to. It is so thin, that it gets cold in about five minutes, so eat fast! Besides that, if you don't want pizza, there are literally no other options - but at least you know they can't screw up the pizza... Here is my recommendation, go home, save yourself the trip, and take two tortillas, and stack them on top of each other, and put sauce and shredded cheese; then, take it, and stick it in the toaster oven or the oven for 5-10 minutes on toast, and voila! colony-style pizza at home. With that said, the waiters, bartender, and feel of the place is good - a nice spot for a Friday or Saturday night, even. They were quick, and tend to do a good job accommodating guests. I would choose authentic, quality pizza at Romanacci's before you come here, unless you are an avid fan, which it seems there are many. Leave the pitchforks at home, it is only my opinion. read more

No, not the best pizza I have ever had, but it was a very good pizza. I had sausage and meatballs, and I added shakey cheese and a little bit of garlic. Just what it needed. I was disappointed there were no dessert options. My one and only complaint is I ordered a lemonade and I got a warm bottle of Snapple with a glass of ice. The crust is thin which could be a contributing factor to it not holding its heat. Otherwise it's probably the best pizza in town. The To-go service is good. Updating to say: LOVE THIS Colony Grill!! The new location is huge, compared to Milford and Stamford...I think it may even be larger than Fairfield. It also seems brighter and is definitely more open. Standard Colony Grill--the staff has been training for months at all the other locations, so they are on point with service. Parking is in the garage off of Orchard (or Merwin.) The pizza is what you expect--amazing, hot oil pies I want to give them a huge props for being super, super aware of Celiac (had a great conversation with Ken, one of the owners, before it opened)--while a lot of places offer gluten free, but then get me sick, because of improper handling--Colony is on point. They make a point of changing all utensils, letting the kitchen manager know, etc. The pizza is still delicious, gluten free--just not as thin crust as their classic (which I did get to enjoy prior to my diagnosis.) I think they will do well here! But: stay away from Milford if truly Celiac. Every time I have eaten at that location, even with speaking with the manager, I've gotten sick.
