Birkenstock Clogs
Jamie S.

Greg put new Birkenstock bottoms on my pair of 5yr old Birkenstocks. He had the exact Birkenstock rubber that they use! He also cleaned the shoes and treated the leather. He was very nice and took the time to give great customer service. The shoes look great. A little higher price than another place I've used but it's worth it. I will return here when I need something.

I went to Colonial Shoe Repair for my COURT CLASSIC SL/06 EMBROIDERED SNEAKERS IN CANVAS for stretching out because it was unwearable. I'm always have blister when wearing. Then I found this place, Greg was very awesome and negotiable. He does an awesome job on my shoes. He gave it a new life. I can be able to wear it now without worrying about blistering and feet hurting. Plus, they not only do stretching, they also do cleaning, protection sole, all kinds of works that you need to get done with your shoes.

My Louboutins look like new!

Greg is the best cobbler in Boston. I've brought Louboutins and other high end shoes to Greg to fix and each time I'm blown away with his amazing craftsmanship. On top of his work, he's so nice, honest, and takes the time to explain to you what your options are. Wouldn't trust anyone else with my shoes!

Replaced heels

After two years of wear, the heels of my black L.L. Bean booties completely fell off. Greg replaced the them with a stronger, sturdier material and they are literally better than new. He also cleaned and waterproofed the uppers. He was very kind and personable. $60. Will be back.

Nice guy. Very knowledgeable. Far better economics and ecology to fix a nice pair of shoes here than buy new ones.

Greg does impeccable work and truly brings shoes back to life, almost like the day you first bought them.

Great work. I came in with a vintage leather handbag that had a broken strap. He was honest with me…read morethat the leather wasn't in great shape and even if he fixed the strap, there would be more issues down the line. I appreciated the honesty so that I didn't fix it without knowing it could be for nothing. But I opted to have it fixed and purchased his recommended leather conditioner. Only $15 for the repair. Maybe it won't last a long time but I love the purse and will give it the best chance it's got.

I have never written a review like this before and I won't pretend there are no spiteful feelings…read moreon my part, that would be a lie. However having gone through what I just did though and knowing the generally good reputation this business has, I feel like I owe it to others to at least try to get the word out everywhere I can and hopefully stop someone from making the same mistake. I had gone to Dave's once before and despite some customer service issues(they somehow lost track of the shoes for a few days) I was impressed with the repair job so I wanted to give them my business again. I took in the shoes my husband bought specially for our wedding to address a few scrapes from a fall he took during the reception. When I picked them up yesterday, they looked different in a way I couldn't place right away but the scratches were better and I had to get back within my lunch hour so I paid and left. It didn't process until I saw them out of the bag at home that they had totally polished over the unique burnished finish and made them a uniform dark brown, completely removing a large part of their charm(see the photos of the brown shoes I'm uploading for reference). My husband and I were devastated. We're not rich, nice shoes like these were an investment piece for him and held sentimental value for both of us. It could be they saw this as necessary to cover the scratches, I can't be sure. What I do know is that I was never asked or even told about it. Even all that by itself might not have been enough to get inspire me to write this review though, that is owed completely to how they handled it. I called them to complain. I won't lie, I was still upset and it probably showed in my voice. I made a very active effort to keep my words civil though and explained the issue plainly. I wasn't interested in anything except an acknowledgement and potential advice to fix this. Once I finished explaining, they hung up on me. I called back, ready to give them the benefit of the doubt that it was an accident (even if I doubted it personally). They picked up and immediately hung up again. Disgraceful. Entirely Disgraceful. To the owners: I took the shoes and paid you, I acknowledge that and realize I don't have the power to do much here. However, as someone who works just around the corner, I am going to do my damnedest to caution anyone I can away from you. That probably won't do a hell of a lot, but I like to think you won't get off entirely scot-free for treating me like garbage. If it also helps someone else stay away from my mistake, even better.

Beacon Hill Shoe Instant Repair was up for the challenge, didn't even mention it being an issue. The owner sourced completely new bottoms (w/ extra traction as my primary mode of transportation is walking - didn't even have to ask him for that), new heels, fixed some niches in the leather, cleaned up the entire shoe and even fixed the zippers when I didn't ask. They look unrecognizable! Unfortunately, I don't have any "before" photos but next time I will. Very, very affordable too! I was quoted much more, for much less work at other shops. (He typically writes the price on the ticket he gives you when you drop off your items, so you aren't surprised with price fyi). Will be going back, I have like a dozen shoes I need fixing. Also I really like the ambiance of the place! The owner is very hardworking, thank you so much!!!! :)

On a Louis Vuitton neverful bag- the place is loaded with high end bags so I'm unsure how he has such a busy business is these are the repairs. The man working was very negative to her and basically said he couldn't do it by the time she needed and then backpedaled his way into saying he would. If I'm her I would have just gone somewhere else. For me, I just wanted a pair of laces. The man insisted that I take off my existing one to measure. He looks like he's been doing this a while. While I respect the level of precision, it shouldn't have been too hard of a request. I bet he's seen it before as they are common shoes. When I went to pay, he wouldn't accept a card. I get it that the transaction is a small amount. His attitude of shaking his head and pushing the card back at me is what was disappointing. What should have been a one minute lace selection and purchase turned into no purchase and a poor experience. The place down the street looked at my shoes, gave me the laces sized appropriately and took my credit card. Easy. Go there. It's in South Station.

I looked around at the other services they offer, like keys and umbrellas, then asked, "Do you happen to repair watches here?" The person behind the counter looked at me and said, "Does this look like a jewelry store to you?" Perhaps it should seam obvious that a shoe repair doesn't repair watches, but the store around the corner (which I would recommend, but they recently moved) repaired shoes AND watches, as well as keys, umbrellas, etc. A moment later, the guy behind the counter asked, "Does that even seem like a reasonable question?" After that, I didn't even bother asking about my shoes, I just left. If I could give this place a 0 rating I would.
