This year we wanted to do something really different on our vacation to Williamsburg. We had absolutely no idea and talked to a couple of close friends with relatives who live in the Williamsburg area. They recommended the Colonial Ghost tour they had taken their family on last year in Williamsburg. They said it was a lot of fun. My husband and I decided to go ahead and try Colonial Ghost since our friends highly recommended it. Well, I must say they were absolutely right! This ghost tour was great because we had fun while learning more about history. My husband and I thought the Colonial Ghost tour was also unique because it was both scary and educational. If you like ghost tours, then this is definitely the tour for you. I believe that you will not be disappointed. One thing that we really liked about Colonial Ghost was the quality of information we learned from our tour guide. This is a great family friendly tour and we learned a lot of historical information. The guide was very informative and provided historical information about the attractions and characters associated with each "haunting". Also, our tour guide told us about where some of the "sayings" come from that we have all heard or said throughout our lives. We thought the tour guide was excellent in helping us feel as if we were actually living during that time. We felt like we were really there experiencing everything first hand. Since Williamsburg is rich in history, I believe this Colonial Ghost tour is ideal for individuals and families looking for an activity that is different from the normal history tours in the area and includes lots of scary fun. This is one of our most memorable and fun activities in Williamsburg, so we plan to take this tour again while visiting there. read more

I must admit, when first asked by my wife if I wanted to go on a ghost tour I was scared and humbled. Being the little coward that I am to ghosts and demons (brought on by my horror movie binging as an adolescent and teenager) I was not eager to go on this tour when I reluctantly accepted, but by the end I had completely changed my mind. Being a resident in North Carolina, my wife found it exciting to go out and view some historic towns in Virginia. In Willamsburg, we had the opportunity to see some magnificent historic sites and some spooky ones as well. Colonial Ghost had a stunning local reputation so my wife used this to persuade me. While on the trip, I came to wholeheartedly agree! I came to learn a lot about the Williamsburg area and still get the spooks and chills as well. I might have even been holding my wife's hand a little too tight!! If you enjoy a spooky adventure, or the experience of learning so much about a such historic area then I HIGHLY recommend this ghost tour because you will not be disappointed (: The information was superb! I could visualized every "haunting" and story as if I was a part of it. I learned about the colloquial language and even the social norms of the time! There are other ghost tours in the area but none measure up to this one! The guide was experienced and very interactive and family friendly. The ghost is almost friendly as well (especially for a cheapskate like myself). There were so many attractions that we saw, from jails to townhouses and houses all with a unique and rich history. Tessa was our guide in Williamsburg! She's awesome, here's a mixed review from my 9 year old and myself: 9 year old: I'm very scared and terrified, which means it was awesome! Me: Every 9 year old is different, mine is the reason we went on this tour. Tessa was awesome, knowledgeable and listened to us talking to her and showing her pictures at the end! Several of our pictures actually did in fact change from the time we took them (and reviewed them) to the time we tried to show them to someone and we're both a little freaked out by that. There was some energy changes in some areas. It was a rainy night which added to it! I personally also really appreciated how it felt like this tour gave appropriate and accurate relaying of the events and what the ramifications were. There was a lot of conversation starters that came from this and I genuinely appreciate that. read more

We decided to add to our Busch Gardens trip and enjoy the Ultimate Ghost Tour one evening. We had Michael as our guide and he was awesome! As others mentioned, this isn't a jump scare kind of tour - it's a walking tour of really neat places believed to be haunted in old Williamsburg. But it was well worth the time and money, as the history he explained - and the personal stories of sightings/unexplained phenomena - were VERY nicely done. Michael wasn't robotic or mechanical in his narration - he was funny, energetic, and unquestionably knowledgeable. If all you crave is entertainment, look elsewhere. But if you wanted to learn some history, hear tons of stories, walk at a perfect pace, and leave Williamsburg with a fascinating, yet deliciously uneasy, sense of the supernatural in that beautiful area... this is for you! read more

As someone who is not spiritual by any means, I went into the tour with low expectations, entering with a mere comical approach to the experience. I could not have been more wrong. William, our tour guide, combined both spook and spunk in a way that consistently held our attention while providing many laughs along the way. His engagement with the group felt personal, and I appreciate his humor when telling stories of historical figures that otherwise would not have been as excitable to hear about. His knowledge of the history of the structures, as well as attention to detail was admirable, and I myself became significantly more fascinated with the the town I call home. I highly recommend this tour and would absolutely do it again. read more

We did the tour and the extended tour with the EMF Detector and our guide was Jimmy. Jimmy was very knowledgeable abut the place we did see on the tour and he also did his creativity on the end with lyrics that went with the stories. The EMF Detector was going off constantly at the Church and the house on which was labeled the most active. The stories on which are very true was told really well. My wife and I was totally entertained and next time we are back, we will be doing other tours if they are available. Awesome job and definitely worth it. Oh and we was using a spirt box on the tour using our earbuds and what was coming through was spot on with the locations. read more

If you guys what something to do in Williamsburg over the summer, this is it! The tour is super informative with a mix of history about the buildings and people plus anecdotes about the interactions people have actually had with the dearly departed. It's even better in the summer since you're not walking around under the hot sun all day. I truly think that our great guide was a big reason for why we had such an amazing experience so a huge thank you to Emily! We had Stacey as our tour guide and she was so awesome! She knew a lot about all of the places and she is a student at William and Mary. This is super cool because on the extended ultimate tour you visit the William and Mary campus and she even had her own paranormal experience. She was funny and positive without being super cheesy. Hope to come back again with my siblings and have Stacey as our tour guide so they can experience this. Also I am an amateur photographer, so I have included some photos I took on the tour. We really enjoyed this ghost tour. It wasn't dramatized or acted, it was sort of an objective, matter of fact story telling of the hauntings of each place and the back story behind them, so more of a straightforward account, which made it more real and spooky. We went through parts of the old William and Mary college first and then headed down the historic district and went to about 18 locations as we did the extended tour option. If you want a fun and straightforward scary tour and aren't big on theatrics but want the straight story told in a spooky way, this is for you. read more

Not going overboard with the rating. My hubby and I had a blast on this tour. We toured the grounds on a Monday night with Jonah. Not only was he full of knowledge, he engaged with the group and kept us intrigued the entire time. My husband and I went back the next day to tour the houses in the daytime and Jonah's stories were still so vivid that I was afraid to tour the Randolph house. I did anyway and yes I was tripped up the stairs. Scary! We can't wait to bring our friends and family back to take the tours this October. Hopefully we'll get Jonah again:) read more

I love a great ghost story and getting to visit the places that the ghost stories take place in makes everything that much spookier. I brought my 17 year old daughter, there were people who brought kids that were way younger and it was still appropriate for them. Obviously, the subject matter is a bit morbid, so you should expect that and keep that in mind. Our guide was Patrick. He was friendly, knowledgeable, funny and he did a fantastic job! I highly recommend this for anyone looking for a fun and spooky activity to do with their family and/or friends. read more

Only regret was not getting the ultimate tour! went on the extended tour with our guide, stacy, who was very knowledgeable about the history of the city as well as all the spooky stories! Thoroughly enjoyed her ghost puns, seamless transitions between sites and giving the tour enough time to walk at our own pace and take photos of the sites. Also, including little facts such as her favorite spooky spots made it much more personal and made it so much more enjoyable- if you're going on this tour I would HIGHLY recommend asking for stacy as your guide! read more

I really enjoyed the extended tour on August 18th with Alex! Lots of fun and spooky stories about William and Mary, especially exciting when told first-hand by a student of W&M! Fraternities must be having a ball in these haunted quarters! Overall, great evening of ghostly stories accompanied by the music from summer concert series next door :-) It was animated, entertaining, informative and unexpectedly educational with some true, albeit chilling facts about the amazing history of this place and some famous figures of the past! Our Family had a great time. it was just the four of us - due I'm sure to the time of year. It was the first time we had tried a tour with our kids and our guide was careful not to scare them, but made sure that we enjoyed the tour too. He let them carry the lateen and even had glow sticks when they complained it was too dark. I would recommend this tour for families and couples alike. We had Julie. I recommend trying to get her. Great with kids and an entertaining mixture of spooky with humor since young kids were on the tour. Appreciate our friends taking us along as a treat. We weren't sure we would like a ghost tour but it was fun for all of us and she was very professional which was amazing with such a large group. We also appreciated no silly theatrics and taking care we were safe. Just wish we had done the longer tour to learn more since she was so knowledgeable and a great story teller. read more

Our guide Patrick was a great speaker. Easy to hear and understand. He was very animated, energetic, eloquent, humorous, and very knowledgeable of the history behind the stories. He shared with us a sweet story of his children asking if he speaks about Scooby Doo. I think it is fair to say his telling of that counts as talking about the cartoon right :) We definitely had a great time and will be returning in the warmer months to do the Ultimate ghost tour/hunt! The colonial ghost tour was awesome! I went with a group of friends excited to get alil spooked and see some orbs. Tessa was our tour guide and honestly she made the whole experience so comfortable and was a great story teller! She had us cracking up with her occasional humor and spoke clear with intention. It was great hearing the history of Virginia. I can't wait to go back to check out the insane asylums and museums. A must do when visiting the VA! 10/10 recommend. Dress warm! read more

Such a fantastic show! We took the 11pm tour so we could see all of the additional stops and it was soooooo worth it. Our guide was funny and even though we had a large group the tour started promptly. It was great to learn the history of these buildings as many of them we had visited during the day. Our guide did a good job making the story entertaining to all ages and giving the history while telling the story. It made it feel a lot more complete than a simple ghost story. read more

We are regulars at Colonial Williamsburg and always go on a ghost walk when we visit the city. This year, we decided to try a different tour and were blown away. This is by far the best ghost tour we have taken in the Williamsburg area. We encountered some paranormal activity, some laughs and heard stories we had not heard before. We would recommend taking the extended tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the area and very familiar with the history and legends. read more
