This group of Jesus followers are serious about worshipping our one and only Savior! Singing,…read morepraying, teaching and real fellowship that causes me to focus on my God! This church is a real family and home for me now.

This is a fantastic church for all ages. My wife and I have been very blessed by the teaching,…read moreworship services, and relationships here. First Evan has a contemporary services as well as a traditional service. Both services share the same message. This is a good sized church, and I can't possibly hope to touch on everything it offers, plus, the concept of "reviewing a church" seems somewhat silly since churches are made of people who follow Christ because, by their own admission and the teaching of Scripture, they are flawed. Thus, I'll share what one of my typical weeks at First Evan looks like. On Sunday, we typically attend the traditional service at 8:45. Ron Man normally leads the musical portion of worship. There are several excellent musicians who attend the church (some of who are in the Memphis Symphony), and there is normally a string section, or a horn section, or a reed section to compliment the piano and organ. Pastor Man always teaches through music; this isn't a recitation. There is often congregational responsive reading. I appreciate that this is always directly from scripture, and that this is done purposefully by the church in an effort to maintain the primacy of Scripture. Pastor Huffman typically preaches through specific books, though he does occasionally preach topically. He's an excellent preacher. I'll leave it at that. We then attend a Sunday School class. The church has both age focused and multi-generational Sunday School classes. My wife and I love our Sunday School class! On Monday night, I attend a Men's Bible Study. This is layperson led and open to any male. The study materials offered, the excellent guided group discussion, and the lecture make this fantastic. The layperson who leads this really does an excellent job. On Wednesday nights, we help out with AWANA, which is a great Children's program. There is also a Children's choir. I've touched on about 10% of what the church offers, but you can only review what you have experienced. If you're looking for a Church that values the primacy of scripture, excellence in everything it does, and that will both help you grow in faith and minister to others, this would be a great congregation to check out.
