Had an oil change scheduled through my AAA app. They had a coupon for up to $74.99 but max 5…read morequarts. My vehicle takes 7. I called to see if they could give me a rough estimate of what I would be looking at out of pocket and dude who answered the phone had zero time for me. Barely wanted to talk. Sounded like he was half asleep. Then I asked what type of oil they used, he said condescendingly "synthetic." I asked about the brand. "Oh they don't tell us all of that, it's just whatever" Ohhhh ok. So what I'm hearing is, you don't want to be at work, you don't give a damn about my vehicle, you'll probably upcharge me and find other things wrong to try to beef up the cost, you think I was born yesterday, and oh did I say you don't want to be at work? Never mind. I cancelled that appt faster than I could count to 10 backwards. No thanks.

Bad at the job, bad at business, and mysognistic -- truly, the trifecta…read more I've been a Triple A member for years and have always appreciated roadside assistance. Three weeks ago I took my car in for an inspection; a few hours later they called and quoted me an $800+ repair including a new belt. I asked a few questions and consulted friends and family before ultimately deciding to pay for the repairs. The next morning when I picked up, the belt *immediately* started squealing. I decided to give it some grace. Three weeks (with a serious and expensive family emergency in between) I returned it today because the squealing had not stopped. Apparently, the tensioner was no longer holding tension, and they recommended a $420 replacement. Here's the bad at the job: Quick checks with friends and other shops indicated that in 4/5 cases, the tensioner pulley should be replaced alongside a belt to maintain tension. Either the tech didn't know this, didn't flag this, or they completely mangled the replacement. Here's the bad at business: Given that this should have been done at the initial point of service, I truly do believe this should have been comped. A reasonable compromise would be to charge me for the parts (quoted as 125, most sites will sell you this part for under $75) and not the labor, as that should have been completed three weeks ago as part of the overall package. And finally, the mysogyny: I don't know cars well and I don't pretend to know cars well: that doesn't make me a mark. For several visits, the AM front desk clerk has been condescending through incredibly routine questions like why they were recommending my tires be replaced so often, and whether a shocks repair could be tied to a recent rear-ending. Today, when I said point-blank that I would not be paying for this repair, he laughed and said, "Alright." I asked female friends for their recommendations on where they go, called a shop closer to my home, and the female lead tech offered to replace the part at cost after this experience. Even though it wasn't her garage's screwup. *That's* how you do both business and the job, folks.
