"Now where'd I park my horse?"
    Roanna Z.

If you're ever in the mood for some long-@ss, crazy drive going east and north from Vancouver, with a wild hair up your butt, and you love winding mountain roads through valleys with hardly anything in them but Sage brush and abandoned shacks and small "towns" with no public services, then take this drive: http://tinyurl.com/ctpel2 This isn't a short day trip, I don't know what the big guy was thinking when he decided not to take an over night. But I digress... This is the Coldwater Hotel. (see business link). It's an old hotel in a tumbleweed town. (whistle that famous Spaghetti Western: "Good, Bad and the Ugly" tune....) With a large exterior dome like turret and extended balcony arches to hover under in a rain storm. You feel you could ride up on your horse, tie him or her up and mosey on in to the bar. So we did. We tied up the Honda right out front and had ourselves a pretty decent burger and fries while watching a burlesque show--- er, I mean the watching the Canucks beat the Blackhawks on a big screen TV. I wandered around the M.C. Escher-like interior to see if I could pick up any spirit energy, just for fun. All I can tell you is I did get the "creeps" on the stairway and went back to the bar pretty quickly. They also have a restaurant with a pretty diverse menu, but it closes at sunset it seems, during the week. I'm sure we'll pass this way again sometime in a wagon train.

Yummy restaurant with great burgers and fish and chips. They even have my favourite drink on the menu - paralyzer.

-atmosphere is really authentic to a pub and western restaurant. Merritt being a country music city, the music is very inkeeping with the style. Very relaxed and private atmosphere. We ordered: -French onion soup is absolutely amazing. Very "grandma's special soup"-like. There is a photo I uploaded of the soup, I literally fought my family over it. -pulled pork sandwich is subpar. -poutine is not outstanding, the cheese and gravy were not molded together as it should -fish and chips were in the favorites section of the menu and it did not disappoint but it was not outstanding -ample parking -service is relaxing

I had the John Candy burger, which was a delicious combination of beef burger, cheese and maple bacon.

5 Stars all the way. Staying here reminded me of what hotels used to be like. We were greeted…read morewith a big smile at the front desk, and given a thorough run down of the facility and amenities. There were even fresh baked cookies waiting for us! We came directly from the Abbotsford airshow and were hot, tired, and cranky. Being greeted in such a friendly way really helped turn my mood around. We checked in, showered and then immediately hit the pool and hot tub. The pool area was clean and well maintained. There were plenty of clean towels available and although there were a few other families in there, it didn't feel crowded. There is a fancy coffee maker in the lobby, as well as an assortment of teas. I thought this was a really nice touch. Also, in our room was a nespresso machine! I was impressed. Across the street there is an Esso station with a "travel centre" which includes a LARGE convenience store, Burger King, and a Pizza Hut. Also in the same parking lot as the hotel is a Mr. Mikes, and right on the other side is a Boston Pizza - so there are lots of options for food! Rooms include a free FULL breakfast, not just continental. It included waffles, pancakes, bacon, sausage, various breads, scrambled and hard boiled eggs, hashbrowns, yogurt, cereal etc. There was plenty of variety and the buffet line stayed stocked well. Check out was smooth and they actually proactively asked me how the stay was. Now here's the kicker..... a few hours after we checked out, I received a call from the front desk. When we left, I had left some ice packs on the counter. I meant to through them out, but it slipped my mind. they called to ask if I needed them. I really appreciated the call and thanked them, but asked if they could just toss them for me. Oh.... I almost forgot! When booking, I had the option for a double queen room, or a double queen with a balcony for the same price. So I booked the balcony cause I love sitting outside in the evening, and the balcony was HUGE! There's a few rooms with balconies, and they're not all as large as ours was, but ours was MASSIVE. I would definitely recommend this hotel and we'll be staying here again in the future!

We had a kitchenette and it was stocked with a 2 burner hot plate, fridge, freezer, pots and pans, toaster, microwave, cutlery and cooking utensils/spatulas, bowls, plates, glasses, mugs, detergent, sponge, and dishcloths. The toiletries could be a big bigger as it was not enough for both of us for 3 nights. Breakfast was decent. No more waffle maker but there was a 1 minute pancake machine that worked pretty well. Also fruit, boiled eggs, variety of breads, cereal, milk alternatives, granola, yogurt, egg bites/mini omelettes/sausage/hashbrown. And of course coffee, water, juice, tea. Some reviews said there was banana bread and other baked goods but I didn't notice it other than the muffins. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the BW and hope to be back soon, although the prices are consistently higher than other hotels in the area.

The room itself was nice, we had a kitchenette and a really comfy beds. TV took a little bit of time to figure out but was a nice size for winding down. Hot tub not really that hot - warm at best even with the jets turned on (but only the feet jets turned on, the back jets didn't work for some reason). The pool was small but not too cold. Breakfast was basic - scrambled eggs, sausages, waffle maker, boiled eggs, yogurt, cereal, oatmeal, fruits, muffins, coffee/tea/hot cocoa. However note that it doesn't open until 7am on weekends which caused us to delay our departure. Toiletries available (shampoo/conditioner/soap/makeup remover/shower cap) and toothbrush/paste available at the front desk. Walked to Game On next door for dinner, close and convenient. Friendly and easy check-in/out process. Would come back here again!

So we had the car sent on a a flat bed to the nearest tire shop here. We were recommended to this Inn by the towing company. We were told the room we got is one of the newer room. It is a themed room. It was interesting when we walk in that we saw a stove, a big fridge, a hot water tank etc. It is like a suite. It is clean that is for sure. There is two beds in the room. One outside in the living room and one in the bedroom. The stay wasn't bad. The room was just interesting. Floor didn't match the furniture. But that didn't really bothered me. Overall, this is Merritt and for its standard the room is new and clean. We were told the owner will do the rest of the room next spring. The location is a bit out of nowhere. Not much restaurants nearby.

However the bed in the living area replaced the couch. The room was furnished with some dated items. A fridge and stove from the 1970s I believe. It would have been a decent enough place to stay in for the long term. I enjoyed it. You could tell that most of the people who were staying there were there for work. There is a logging mill just 5 minutes away that ran 24 hours a day. On the plus side, you could not hear the mill from the hotel. The room had air conditioning, provided towels, and toiletries. There were plates and cookware avaiable for use. If you decide you don't want to do your dishes there is a fee. And if i remember correctly is $3.00. I would stay there again. It was clean and the staff were pleasant.
