Aardvark experience you can pay for (pre book)
Joanne M.

Colchester Zoo is a lovely clean zoo however it is a tad hilly but very well laid out for disabled. Also some of the enclosure viewing fences/platforms are a tad high and to try and get a photo through the glass windows is quite difficult when the sun is beaming down so I would say that this is not photography free friendly. There is many animals from sun bears, lions, pygmy hippo, meerkats, penguins and sealions etc. There is no seating for sealion talk/show which I found odd again viewing is through big windows. The elephant and giraffe public feed are lovely and a great idea however I feel we should be handed a bigger size piece of fruit/veg as the piece of lettuce I got was a size of a 50p coin also the volunteers ushered us along too quick so no chance for a photo opportunity with the animal. The Pattisserie cafe is lovely especially in the conservatory area next to the bird of prey display area. Also the lunch was lovely and hot and the cakes even thouigh I did not have any looked divine and they looked homemade. I done a aardvark experience when at the zoo and it was a amazing so unique and one that I will treasure. When I done it there was a baby aardvark of 9 weeks old so cute. I would deffinately do the aardvarks again in the future. However bear in mind they are usually asleep during the day so it is hit and miss if they will be active or not. There was 4 in the enclosure and only the baby and the 2 year old sister was active. Also there is a red light in the enclosure so quite a dark area and very hot so dont wear your coat into the enclosure is my advice. The zoo keeper was also very knowledgable and welcoming, loved animals and is a very pleasant young man. I would go back to this zoo only reason why I rate this zoo a 4 out of 5 is because of the many hills and windows so made it hard for photography.

Super zoo, the animals are well looked after if any of the animals have marks or fur missing they always but up a note about it so you don't worry about them. The food is horrible we always go to sainsburys first to buy a picnic lunch. We have just discovered the road trains (the pleasure of going with a 4 year old) these are free but they do ask for a donation the Tanganyika one is good it goes round the lakes and you get to see animals the other one is not so good as most the time there is just bushes to look at. The new sealion pool is lovely there is tunnel to walk through and they swim and rest above you. The zoo is constantly growing so we go every year at least once there is a lovely santas grotto near christmas (check website for details) with real reindeer this year.

one of the parrots! please comment

This is definatly one of the best zoo's I have ever been to! I go so often that I am considering getting a gold card! I always go with my friends, and everytime we go there is something new and exciting to do. The animals are amazing, and range from red ants to giraffes and elephants which you can feed at certain times of the day! You can also watch deminstrations of the keepers feeding and playing with the animals at set times of the day. There is a large farm animals bit where there are horses and donkeys which you can feed, aswell as the greedy goats! There are tones of unusual and beautiful animals kept there, like the white tiger and the emperor squirral monkey which is one of my personal favourites! The keepers and staff are friendly and helpful, which makes it and easy and great day out!

Linton Zoo - Baby Tapir

I went to Linton Zoo a couple of weekends ago and I felt like I had to make a review on here…read more Firstly, it was amazing that the attendant recognised and enjoyed the jurassic park stickers on my car, obviously a cool person. Secondly, this zoo was quaint and fun with a wonderful feeling of being in someone's back garden. I felt like I had found something really special that had not been commercialised and was not insanely busy. The weather could have been better but we saw our fair share of animals and the baby Tapir was a huge (tiny) treat. The cafe was small but perfect for the zoo and had a really nice selection of food available and I very much enjoyed my lunch. Before we walked round the zoo twice :) There were talks from very enthusiastic men who worked at the zoo who are a credit to the organisation and obviously respect and admire the animals greatly. The only thing I would suggest would be to have some updated information boards to have a read through here and there, such as I wanted to know the name of the baby Tapir. But not a massive problem and it did not affect my enjoyment of the zoo and its lovely residents. Will definitely be planning to go back again this summer to make use of the picnic benches

We moved to Linton a year ago and bought season ticlets for the zoo in spring. We have now made…read moremany visits and every time we have been it has been fantastic. The staff are friendly and knowledgable. The animals appear happy and content. For a small zoo there are some great animals there -a lot of big cats - Tigers, Lions, Panther, Leopard, Snow Leopards. The zoo is a breeding zoo, so there are often baby animals appearing - the Tapir is due to drop any day now. It is a great place for children - the talks are informative and aimed at children and adults. The bug talk was particularly entertaining - they bought the animals out and you were able to touch some of them (obvioulsly not the tarantula!). The entrance price is really good - £7.50 for a standard ticket, and the season tickets are more than reasonable. Defiantely worth a visit - takes a couple of hours to go round - a bit longer if the children are distracted by the play equipment. Take a picnic if you want the experience to last a little longer. There is also a little cafe at the zoo which does nice food at a reasonable price.

Every exhibit has multiple viewpoints here. There were plenty of opportunities to easily see all the animals here. The enclosures were extremely well kept and I think all had an indoor and outdoor area for the animals. There are multiple play areas throughout for kids here too. My kids also enjoyed the animatronic dinosaurs here (very cute). Food here was reasonably priced but we ate outside the park. Parking was free. They offer a lot of different animal interactions here. The prices for all were pretty high but for a special gift I'm sure they are totally worth it. You can also buy carrots to feed the animals in the petting zoo.

There were a few extras while you were there so take additional money but to be expected at these places! ( it's set up for packed lunches which is great for families ) There is a good choice of animals to see and you can buy food which a good selection of animals to feed! They also had a lots of showing through out the day and I got to stroke a snake :). The park had a good layout where you can easily walk around and find where you are going plus you get a handy map! There have an indoor soft play at the entrance which is good and bad! Means the kids want to go these straight away instead of seeing the animals and you don't pass on the way out! The soft play was great for all ages and served your average drinks and food - one thing I will say which was disappointing was they charged me for a bit of milk for my baby! I always pay my way but this is the first place that have ever charged me for milk! Worth a visit and tickets are not expensive - look out for groupon deals!

I was primarily…read morethere to see their Pallas's cats, but was impressed by all the animals on show, especially the snow leopards and red pandas. The enclosures are well-planned, catering to both the animals' wellbeing and the visitors' experience - I've never seen giraffes or tigers so close in other zoos! That Banham have done so well with what must be tight margins speaks to their thoughtfulness and dedication. I spent some time talking to the staff, and they were all friendly, excited to answer questions, and their love for the animals shone through. There seem to be lots of activities for kids, along with lots of food options, and the gift shop had some fun merchandise. Of course I'd have loved some Pallas cat-themed merchandise, but I'm still very happy with my snow leopard keychain! Banham is a fantastic zoo, and I can't recommend it highly enough for solo animal lovers and families alike!

Set in 35 acres of parkland, the zoo is home to over 1000 species of animal. About 25 minutes from Norwich and 40 minutes from Ipswich, the zoo is well signposted off the A11 and A140 so despite being in the middle of nowhere you should have no problem finding it. The zoo itself opened in 1968 and is well established, with modern well kept pens, large range of animals and a play area for all. Its a great day out especially if you have kids.

The Q&A sessions help educate kids about endangered species and the parks effort to preserve the ecosystem. Unfortunately, the message seems to end where their own setup is concerned. The vegetarian food options are terrible, the slushies come in throw-away plastic containers and condiments are individually packaged. The worst, however, is getting there: if you go via public transport, you are facing a daunting 500m walk on a country road with no sidewalks. We literally had cars queuing up behind us. This just sends a terrible message: yeah, we are preserving rhinos but we cannot be bothered to support public transport at home. The park desperately needs to work this out (maybe get the council involved).

Wingham Wildlife Park gets better and better each time I visit with new animals / enclosures and…read morechanges to the park. I love this wildlife park it is my favourite places to visit to see and interact with animals and to watch the otters train and listen to the talk. Wingham is a lovely zoo with many different animals from otters to lions, it's a very clean zoo, well laid out, has great areas for picnics next to lovely ponds/lakes, great play areas for kids and staff are always very friendly and happy. The animal enclosures are all very clean and most of the animals look happy. I especially love the otter areas. At present there are baby otters so adorable. The only caged areas I don't like at Wingham is the big cat enclosures I feel they are too small and has not got enough climbing frames/trees for the big cats to enjoy so they do not seem very happy in particular the jaguar but their enclosures are very clean. But saying this about the cages least for instance the lions that where rescued from a circus has got a much better live now at Wingham. Also I feel that perhaps the penguin enclosure needs a update perhaps make it more of beach type area like London Zoo however penguins do seem very happy though in their enclosure and they have had many baby penguins over the past couple of months even the gay penguins brought up a baby penguin that they adopted, so cute. At this zoo you can also interact with quite a few of the animals from feeding (food at a cost) wallabies, goats, reindeer, koi, meerkats etc. Amazing. You can also interact with snakes, spiders and lizards at certain times. They also have many animal experiences that you can pay from such as a penguin encounter. I done a ring tailed lemur experience and it was the most amazing animal experience I have ever paid for and I have done quite a lot of varied animal experiences. The lemurs jump all over you for their food (bananas and carrots). It was amazing I had them on my head, bottom of my legs, on my back just everywhere. I will definitely be doing the lemur experience again next year. The keeper was also very nice and very knowledgable so she made the experience ever more of a joy. As I mentioned before I have visited Wingham time and time again and would still do I highly recommend a visit to anyone.
