I'm not a regular here by any means, but I will stop in for a cup of coffee and a donut to go. You can't just get a cup of coffee with all those donuts just staring at you. There is usually a chocolate glazed cake donut just begging to be bought and I'll cave in. It always looks like a good breakfast / lunch crowd. I have often found myself wondering what goes after the & in the name Coffee &. Someone once told me it was donuts, but there is so much more to this place. I have been coming to this location for years. I started coming late nights, but eventually learned it was good enough to eat here when it was bright outside too. In my opinion, this is one of the best breakfast spots on the Westbank. The western omelets are very good, as are their other breakfast items. One of the neat things about this restaurant is that they serve the full menu whenever they are open. That means burgers for breakfast or omelets for dinner. Some of the other items that are pretty good, but not as good as the omelets are: Burgers: fried and greasy, but in a good way. These are even better on french bread. Po Boys: While they wont win any awards, the po boys are great late at night or for lunch. Coffee: Hell, it's in their name, it better be good. I highly recommend this Coffee &. The other locations are not as good, so stick with this one and you wont be disappointed. read more

Been going to Coffee & for years and never have been disappointed until now. Was craving a roast beef poboy before heading back to Houston so I called in a order to go. Took me 20 minutes to pickup my order. Took several minutes for anyone to acknowledge me then took another 15 minutes to bring my order out. They were not that busy and should not have taken so long to pick up 2 sandwiches. We were Rey disappointed when when we opened the box to find our sandwiches on some soft, seeded, funky azz bread that fell apart and made it almost impossible to eat. Never again will I order from Coffee & with all the other places to get good poboys. Don't know why they changed the bread but it was terrible. read more

Staying at Bayou Segnette SP. Did not want to run into french quarter for beignets w morning coffee. Found this place on yelp, looked like a great local hangout. They were sure busy everyone ordering donuts and rolls like crazy. I ordered my beignets waited while they were made to order. Now I've had beignets at Cafe Du Monde, Beignet Cafe so my standards r high. What I got from Coffee was tuff and chewy. To me it was like the dough was over mixed. When anyone, especially a foodie, wakes up from hunger and a drunken ex-wife on the phone (AGAIN), "Coffee &" comes to the rescue. Im a chef. And like most chefs, we appreciate each others' work. Great staff. The cook sat with me for a few seconds, and talked about being responsible for love of product and clients. Waitstaff were very New Orleans/West Bank friendly", which is why I have not taken any job more than 1/4 mile from The Mississippi River. I am originally from Lafitte, but now live in NC. Everytime we come home to visit, we usually just settle for Mcdonalds for breakfast. I really wanted some beignets, but didn't wanna drag my boys out to the French Quarter. My mom told me about this place, and that they had beignets. We ended up eating breakfast here twice on our trip. The first time, I just had beignets. They were really good! Maybe not quite as good as Cafe Du Monde, but they hit the spot. Paired with coffee, it was a very good breakfast. My husband also had beignets, along with a meat omelet. He loved his omelet. Said it was the best he'd ever had. My son had eggs and grits and he seemed pleased. The server we had was nice but not so friendly. She seemed to either be overwhelmed or just not happy to be there. At least she did her job well. The next morning, we met a friend there. It was a little chaotic because we needed a bigger place to sit and it was packed, so the servers were having trouble getting together enough tables and seemed to be getting frustrated. Once we got settled, things went pretty smoothly. I ordered eggs, bacon, grits, and a biscuit. Everything was decent. Wish my bacon would've been a little more cooked. My husband ordered another omelet, adding on some extra meat as a side. My son had an egg and cheese sandwich. I asked them to fry the egg instead or scramble, but it was scrambled anyways. He still ate it but had a little trouble as it kept falling off the bread. Service was meh this time around. I'd still rather have breakfast here than McDonald's or Shoney's. It's good food for a good price. Just be prepared for a ton of people and a little lack on service. read more

An old school cafe. The donuts looked good and there was a large selection, too much sugar for me. Sat at a table and had breakfast. An excellent hot sausage omelet. Decent rye toast. Hash browns were dried out shreds and totally inedible. Coffee was typical weak diner coffee. Refills were slow in coming. I love little coffee shop/diners that serve no frills, inexpensive solid breakfasts, and that's exactly the type of restaurant this place is. I've been here a couple times when visiting New Orleans and I've always had a good experience. I forget what they call it, but I've just gotten the basic breakfast special (w/eggs, sausage, & hashbrowns) both times. It's solid. My friend who I was visiting w/the last time had a veggie omelette that she said was very good & my nephew loves the donuts. Sure, the place has no atmosphere but who really cares? Bite-size beignets, delicious iced caramel coffee, and a selection of doughnuts that will make your head spin. This is definitely a spot that I will be returning to! It looks like they have a full menu as well. Everyone was nice and courteous, the line can be long, but it's easy enough to figure out that you move to the side once you're done ordering your to-go order. My husband and I went to Coffee & (Marrero location) yesterday and we were very satisfied. Both of us ordered a breakfast meal and coffee. The food was very good and prepared exactly as we wanted. Table service was good. They have a nice menu with more than just breakfast items, as well as daily specials. We will definitely be repeat customers. read more

This place is okay. I came and ordered two club sandwiches with no pickles and substitute the American cheese for cheddar and got two clubs with no bacon, American cheese on it and cheddar on my fries.....the cheese was im sure an honest mistake. Came back in to let them know and get a refund for at least the missing bacon and would of just kept the sandwiches but the servers couldn't do a refund so went to get the manager who also couldn't do a refund. We told them when they offered to remake it that we were in a rush, we were working late night. This was at 2am. The manager came over to explain that she also couldn't do any refund.....not sure why she was a manager or why a manager can't do a refund but she explained it to us six times when we understood the first time. It made us lose out on our morning contract causing us to lose money. Then we were told we had to come back at 7am to get the refund. We work at night and sleep in the day so normally we are headed to bed by 5 to 6 am. We asked if we could call in and were told maybe but it's best to come in because sometimes they are too busy to answer their phones. We would have been happy with a 5 dollar refund, 2.50 off for each sandwich missing the bacon but were told absolutely not. If we keep the food then no refund will be issued. So we left the food there to be seen by the owner I guess so we could get refunded....a waste of food and we left hungry. Just bad business pratices. Ok now to top it off, the couple bites we took out of the club before realizing it had no bacon was good just missing the bacon, so we went back a couple days later to give it another try. Decided to order just one to split and decided even if it's wrong we will just deal with it and eat it. Ordered it the same and this time the cheddar cheese was on the sandwich, it was shredded but whatever lol, no pickles like we asked, but no lettuce on it which we wanted on it and didn't ask for it to be left off.....we didn't tell them, we just laughed and ate it. If they could get it together I would give them 4 or 5 stars because their donuts are good and the food is alright too. read more

Before I discovered the 24 hour breakfast spot that is IHOP, Coffee & was my "go to" for late night food or doughnut craving. It's a typical doughnut shop, they serve all types along with coffee, juice, milk...the basics. The also serve regular breakfast such as bacon, sausage, eggs, grits, toast. They have a nice "lunch" selection of sandwiches and fries. My favorite is the club sandwich with sweet potato fries and a chocolate milk. Service is pretty fast, depending on the time of night, which is good, considering the place is always packed. This is a JPSO cop hangout, so I never feel weird going in here with friends, even if it's late. You can order in or get food to go. If you want a more personal experience than IHOP or Shoney's for breakfast, than this is definitely a good stop. read more

My family and I have been coming here since they first opened and while I'm NOT a coffee drinker (though the wife is), I CAN rate the food, service, location, etc. FOOD? Patience is sometimes needed if they are really busy. QUALITY? The doughnuts are always fresh, and if you're willing to wait a short while, they usually have hot ones coming out throughout the day and night. The have a full menu of sandwiches, platters, appetizers, and so forth. They even have daily specials as well. TASTE? The food always tastes fresh. In the event that there is a problem, which is very rare, they will be more than willing to correct it. One of the owners is almost always usually nearby, be it day or night, so if there is a problem, they'll correct it quickly. LOCATION? Right on the Westbank Expressway, almost on the corner parallel to Barataria Boulevard. Basically if you're heading from Harvey to Marrero via the Expressway, it'll be on your right-hand side right after you pass the light at Barataria Blvd. PARKING? They have their own private lot, which is almost always full because they are ALWAYS just that busy. When a place is that busy all the time, it really tells you something about it. There is another business next door with a large parking lot, but do NOT park in there, as the owner of that building WILL tow your car. SERVICE? Top Notch! The waitresses are always very friendly, and they will take the time to get to know you if you're a regular. If you come in often, most of them WILL remember exactly what you like to drink and eat, and will even remember to ask if you want that this time around. Not many places are like that anymore. If you like Mom and Pop type restaurants, this is the place. CLEANLINESS: Usually pretty clean during the day and night. But if there's a mess, just let them know and they'll clean it ASAP. SAFETY? You betcha! With JPSO officers coming in and out, all day and night, there's not many places on the Westbank that are safer than here. ATMOSPHERE? Non-stop regulars are in here throughout the day and night, and there's always someone willing to chat on just about any subject under the sun. This is a family run business and they have other locations on the Westbank as well. Also, this particular location has a Daiquiri shop right next door, so if you're in the mood for one after eating, you don't have to drive to get one. Just remember to NOT put the straw into the Daiquiri cup until you get home, and NEVER drink and drive! read more

This is definitely a place for locals. As soon as we walked in we saw waitress chatting up with the regulars looking like a Sunday breakfast get together. It made us feel at home. Our waitress wasted no time and ask us for our drink orders and came back a minute later. While the service was good the food was mediocre at best. Nothing fancy just your advantage everyday breakfast you can cook at home, but too lazy to do it yourself so you eat out type of food. I do have to say our order of loaded hash brown was a good amount of food for 2.75. You can get stuff just from that dish alone. read more

We were heading for the hope cafe which sure was an affair on its own if it was open after the Christmas Eve. However we learnt that it was closed for a whole week during Xmas and this was the only option available close by. A family run template diner which gives you a more or less Waffle House like feeling. The menu is pretty much standard fare thrown in with som Cajun options. This IS the local joint for regulars around the place. You won't get a special treatment but if you can wade through all the bustle and find a seat someone curt and uptight will come take your order . They might even ask you about your salads and dressings with main dishes and then give it in a small plastic bag with plastic cutlery. So it's a fifty fifty chance between a good meal and a fastfoody experience. Given a chance any day I would stick to the handwritten specials on their little blackboard that hangs above the cashier I did the same with my chicken and sausage gumbo and it was delicious. read more

I ended up visiting coffee & at 850pm, the places seemed like it had a nice rustic appeal to it. While waiting it took the waitresses 13 mins to even bring a menu to my table and I already acquired one before hand due to such a long wait. We ordered at 905, our order was brought out to the wrong table and a women across from us grabbed the burger patty and bun. When I noticed it she said oh wrong order let me bring you the correct one. She brings the ladies order out and tells me my burger would be out soon and they just need to redo the patty, that sounds great right? I counted 3 mins and I get a burger and fries that were just cooked? I touched the patty and noticed it's not even warm, nor the fries, and there were finger imprints on the burger from the previous women grabbing it. How can you as a restaurant resend food out that's been touched by another guest, it's simply disgusting. Well after my guest finished their meal I left to pay and the waitress asked why I didn't try my food. I held my breath and just ignored it but my thought was why would you ask when I saw you take a burger back and bring out a new one for me in 3 mins and it's not even warm, you can't recycle food like that, it's just horrendous. Who knows where that guests hands have been. Do not go to this place, they have no care for proper food handling procedures, who knows what else they do if they are to cheap to fix a mistake such as making a new patty after you take it to the wrong guest and they touch it. First time here in awhile maybe in years. But breakfast was pretty good just a normal breakfast with eggs, sausage, hash browns. Not sure about cleanliness though. They look busy and place has been there for years. Maybe an upgrade may help. Staff was very nice and friendly. We were greeted right away and was immediately seated. I frequent this place pretty regularly. At least once a month for breakfast and then about every other week for a quick pick up of donuts and coffee when I don't feel like cooking breakfast on the weekends. But this isn't about me. Okay it is but it isn't. It's about the incredibly nice thing this place did. My parents were visiting from California and I went into labor! Yay! They went in to coffee & for breakfast the morning I delivered before coming to the hospital and the employees gifted the new grandparents (who were so excited they told their server) a free dozen donuts for us. Now that is waaayy better than hospital food. Love this place. Granted we have only been in a handful of times, but the pastries are amazing. The Banana fritter, Maple & Bacon, and the Bavarian Cream are goals!!! The apple fritter King Cake is by far my family's favorite (and we did the whole best of list) but this one.... wowowow. Hubby and I have come down to New Orleans to retire. And happy to be here! We have a storage facility not far away from Coffee &...so we drive two minutes down the road and often have breakfast. They are usually quite busy, which should tell you how good the place is. On a Sunday morning you'll see people all dressed up, who stop by for doughnuts for their after church coffee hour. Older folks, little kids, people with walkers. You name it, they dine here. It's a super friendly, no-frills place, a real relief after all my years in New York. Iris is our favorite; she walks by with her refill coffee pot, attentive as well as cheerful. The regulars are there - I call it the Old Boy Table. They know who they are. First time we came in, we were total strangers. (That sure didn't last long). Now, whenever we come by, we'll get a "Hi, y'all, nice to see you two!" We experienced terrible service. We were there during non-peak hours and from the time we sat down to the time we got our bill was an hour and a half. Then it took another 10 minutes for us to get up and try to find someone to collect payment since our waitress was. I where to be found. Food was cold and our orders were wrong. This donut shop has delicious lunch and dinner food! It is all homemade comfort food. The hamburgers are delicious! The donuts are great as well! The owners are always walking around the restaurant checking on the customers. Sometimes they pass around free donut samples to the kiddos. The service is iffy though. i have to say i have never dined here but one night i was lucky enough to find a parking spot to go inside and order some donuts. i was surprised at how expansive the space was. one half of the space is just for donuts and the other half for sit down diner food. its true what Harden says you can find cops eating there all the time at night. im not sure if their service is as good as the first reviewer mentioned but they make a pretty tasty mushroom swiss burger. their donuts are really good soo good that my sister ordered a mini donut tray for a party and they were a big hit! they also have one of the better kingcakes in town if you dont want to drive to Gretna for your kingcake fix. read more

I'm not understanding how this place got all these good reviews I'm seeing. After today I will never return to this restaurant. I had been here twice before, late at night but thought maybe day shift was a little better. We sat and got a coffee just to sit another fifteen minutes while watching our waitress play on her phone. After she checked her social media and found the time to take our order we were served cold, burnt food. You can't just flip something over as if the person eating it won't taste how nasty something is. Well we are ready to pay at this point but gossip and once again our phones are more important than customers or your tip.
