The order is completely wrong by ice first- then thick mocha- then pour shot over ice to add a splash of milk..? Eco-friendly by not having straws (cool!) but then offer stir sticks that are too short that it is not possible to mix the bottom. Bitter sweet experience- if the order is store guidelines then please mix for the customer.

Locals Collective is such a sweet l'il cafe. The vibe is relaxed and lovely, with friendly, helpful staff (especially the woman wearing the ramen cat shirt, whose name I didn't get, unfortunately). The menu is small, but includes some healthy options like the breakfast sammy (with two eggs, avocado, sprouts, tomato, Monterey Jack cheese, and spicy aioli on whole grain toast), acai bowls, wraps, overnight oats and that sort of thing. The breakfast sandwich wasn't very big -- or rather it was a normal size, well filled, but made with commercially standard-size sliced bread, not a hero, sub, or roll -- and was perhaps a touch spendy at $12. The Progeny inhaled the sandwich after snarfing down a sushi roll we'd brought -- and still wanted two large protein bars, after. (I guess surfing cultivates a good appetite.) He said he enjoyed it, though. My iced coffee was a touch weak, but serviceable. There's pleasant seating indoors and out, with a few folks working on laptops. There are quite a few dining options on this particular block, including burritos, pizza, ice cream, and a few full-service restaurants -- but in terms of aesthetics and overall look-feel, Locals Collective takes the win. Surf boards (I think soft tops only) are available for rent at Locals Collective, for $35 / 2 hours. Prices are a bit higher than at Breakwater Surf, which rents for a jaw droppingly low price of $5 an hour -- but Locals does offer additional amenities like changing rooms and a shower, which I'm prima-donna enough to think is worth it. You can also rent a wet suit, which you'll probably want if the air temp is anything cooler than 75F. Waves at Beach 68 are fairly small, but reportedly consistent. We'll be back for more, I'm sure.

Ended up getting the Sea Salt Caramel Truffle flavor and it was SOOOO GOOD! mMmM - delicious!!! Also, the portions are so generous!!!! The small scoop is HUGE! The were also nice enough to give us a pup cup for the fur babies (they shared). The place is very beachy vibes, I think there is a yard in the back but we didn't go. Next time for sure! Love, love, love this place!!

Beach 97 area is nearby. Close to a few bus lines and A train (for us, Q52 or Q53 stops in the Queens Center mall area). There's a large menu but we've been getting ice cream only. Prices are great. A small is a good-sized scoop at $5.50, even in a waffle cone. Finally asked for mine in a cup then topped with the waffle cone to avoid dripping all over the sides. Many flavors to choose from (saw one boozy flavor for 21+) but the Chocolate Lovers Chocolate is my pick so far - still sweet but dark chocolate with swirls and choc chunks in it. Had a taste of the Sea Salt Caramel Truffle - too sweet for me. Rainbow and Chocolate sprinkles are free. Other toppings cost $1 and given pre-packed so can add onto ice cream by yourself. There are a few tables indoors. Outdoors, there's a sandy area in the back with an umbrella-covered table/seats plus beach chairs. Service has been great. Got a "buy 10, get 1 free" punch card. There's a restroom but had an out-of-order sign on our last visit.
