My husband surprised me with a booking to this restaurant for Valentines Day night. He'd expected it to be fully booked but, in actual fact, it really wasn't that busy.
There was a special valentines' menu but, in actual fact, there was very little to choose from unless you eat meat or shellfish!
If you've read my other reviews you'll know that we don't eat meat when we go out and we seemed to be surrounded by people ordering mussels or lobster :( It's not that enjoyable for vegetarians but there's not an awful lot you can do, short of only frequenting vegetarian restaurants.
So I ordered tricolore salad and OH ordered minestrone. My salad starter was a very full plate of avocado, tomato and mozzarella topped with salad leaves. The bowl of minestrone was full of vegetables.
For our main meal I'd ordered the cod in breadcrumbs and for OH salmon with asparagus. Served with it was a huge plate with saute potatoes, string beans, cauliflower and broccoli. Having almost filled up on my starter, I was unable to finish my fish, nor could we polish off all the vegetables.
As usual, I had a rose wine although the grenache rose was exceedingly dry whilst OH's merlot was "not bad".
Dessert was meant to be chocolate cake but, by that point, neither of us felt we could eat that too, so I had a coffee whilst OH had vanilla ice cream (a dollop in a glass bowl, unadorned).
With a 10% service charge the bill came to £73.70 at which point I was presented with a red rose and a small wrapped chocolate :\
It wasn't a bad meal but then, given the cost for the evening it wasn't outstandingly good, either. I shan't be rushing to return. read more
