I also got at least 10 letters from the IRS over the course of working with them for 5 years for issues that they always denied were theirs. For the past several years, they have increased their costs by about 25% each year for increasingly poor service. They also started charging you to speak on the phone to your tax prep person. I have also been given bad tax advice by them - as have friends of mind who have used them. I should have stopped working with them years ago, but it is hard to leave when they have all of your information. I finally made the break this year and am excited to go somewhere where they are organized and know what they are doing!

I was referred to Steve Bruner, CPA at…read morethis firm when I finally decided that being completely anxious about taxes AND 8 months pregnant AND potty training was not good for anyone. I live in Texas, but own property in Iowa, so I was looking for someone in the DsM area. I was apprehensive about handing over my financial information (and tax liability) to a stranger, but Steve is everything you want in an accountant. Smart, funny, prompt, competent. I asked a bunch of (ignorant and useless) questions and Steve had an answer for each one. He and his firm are extremely reasonably priced and likely found WAY more deductions in my taxes than the fee he charged--so I'm sure I came out ahead. He ALSO likely kept me out of trouble with the IRS given the complicated tax situation we were facing this year. Taxes? No fun. But working with Steve makes taxes a lot less horrible. And that's saying a lot. We will absolutely use Steve next year and I look forward to pumping this kid out for an additional tax write-off.

I even referred my husband (then boyfriend) to their services even though he has been doing his own for years. He was pleased with the first year they did his taxes so we decided to use them again this year. This experience was less than acceptable. When we went to pick up our taxes the amount that was estimated for our return had changed drastically from what we were previously told. We emailed Kathy promptly regarding this concern to which she replied that there must have been something that had fallen off during importing them. We then emailed her 3 times following up for the correction to which she NEVER replied. My husband then called the office after having waited over a week for a reply from Kathy. Kathy wouldn't even speak to my husband on the phone and instead talked through the receptionist. Kathy claimed to not know of the issue he was referring to. This was impossible as she had already replied to one of his emails that had outlined very specifically our concerns. If you want someone who stands by their work and acts ethically, think twice before using the services provided by The Bookkeepers. We will NOT be going back and will be sure to tell our story to others in the area so they don't make the same mistake we did. Lesson learned. Professional companies are NOT always the way to go! If I could give them less than a 1 star rating I would because truthfully, that is what they deserve.
