If there is a heaven, I imagine it'll be pretty similar to what I experienced as a VIP guest to cochon.
This festival is ALL about pork (cochon means pig in French), and man these guys don't mess around. They had everything you could possibly imagine related to pig and more - think bacon and pig lard pastries sure, slices of pig for auction? of course...but then think pig frosting cannoli. I mean, when I say no joke...well it's no joke.
But let me not get ahead of myself.
Walking in, during VIP hour *baller, cough*, we were treated to a panoply of drink selections and cheeses ranging from age wines and punches (apparently punch goes with pig festival, like cake goes with a fat kid), to brie and blue. Let me not forget about the Pâté (circumflex and all) that was paired ever so delightfully with crisped artisanal bread. The main event started and things only got more insane. There was more booze and of course more pig. They judged the different wines, punches, and the different food vendors; we were, of course, all winners that night.
I mean, for me this whole event boiled down simply to a simple truth; you could be as fancy or as laid back as you wanted as long as you were into pork and booze you were good. Honestly, this was the best thing I've done in NYC or any city really in a long time, you can bet I'll be attending next year, and i highly recomend you do the same read more
