His summary line was to say that we really don't have to make a great effort to change but rather just be nice to people who are difficult. So much for John the Baptist. Not a word about Advent. Nor any comment on the trouble we are in as a country and the world. Just pablum. The best part of the church of the whole experience was seeing the statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe but not a world about mass deportations. This is the kind of insipid Catholicism that drives educated people away in droves. This priest needs to seriously up his theological learning.

Everyone was so friendly and warm and generous with their time, and I really appreciated the laidback vibe of the congregation. The chapel is gorgeous, with lovely stained glass that pays homage to the church's Coastside location. Even if you're not religious (I'm not either), the stained glass itself is worth a look.

Here's why this place is special: 1. The people. There is no other combination of Christ-loving (or faith curious/seeking) people quite like this anywhere else. We all come from different walks of life and are bonded by the shared experience here. I'm also pleased that the church is making efforts to better reflect the ethnic diversity of Coastside/Bay Area. That's important to me as a person of color. 2. Bible-based teaching. The core of Christianity is a grounding in the Bible as the source. Believe it or not, many churches don't do this. The messages here do a great job of applying the Word to our modern day lives. 3. Stance on political/social platforms. For me personally, a church's purpose is to focus on teaching our faith and worship. Mariners role is intentional: "...to equip each person to draw close to God through Jesus Christ, hear His voice, and to get involved in society in the way He leads." While not everyone agrees with this, I appreciate how it allows for people who don't necessarily share the same social views to still worship together and love one another. I have my social/political views (driven by my personal faith) and participate in organizations that further those causes. Just not at church. 4. A culture that seeks to continuously improve. Mariners is not ok with complacency, and it's always challenging our own status quo (as individuals and as a church) to strive toward a stronger faith, which of course leads toward taking action. Most importantly: be prepared to have those "whoa" moments, where a sermon will hit you in the heart as if it was written just for you at this exact time in your life, or you are overcome during worship with the spirit and the music--in a good way. If all these sound good to you, check this place out!

I am a forever follower of God and his word because of Mariners and the amazing leaders. There is diversity and love--they are grounded in the bible and relate it to our current lives. They focus on God's word and do not take political sides. There is no judgement--there is always love and acceptance. It is NOT the status quo. They reach out and help those in need. This is where God dwells and they opened my eyes to the glory and love of God like I've never seen before. I love my church family.

Along with the usual singing & bible readings, he talked about life & how fruitful you make it among other things which tied in well & & offered a great prospective that we can all live by. Our co-worker's son spoke very eliquently of his father & it is just an allaround nice church with flowers to look at out the windows. This could never turn me into a church parishiner, but Reverend Foley is such a very kind profound man.

I felt welcome the first time my wife and I walked in the door. We drove to church on our motorcycles and were welcomed by an usher named Harley! Hey I am not lying, this is a church review:) Anyway it only got better from there. I am a part of the men's group (which is very active and the first time I really have had so many men that I can call my friends) and my wife a part of the women's ministry. If you are looking for a church you should check out NLCF, you will feel welcome. This is a bible based church that is led by a very real and honest Pastor, Jonathan Markham. Also, there is lunch for all after every service! So come for the message and fellowship but stay after for the food.
